As battle for the next Ooni of Ife begins, the Osinkola Ruling House has disagreed with the Giesi and Ogboru Ruling Houses on whose turn it is to produce the next traditional ruler.
The leader of the Osinkola Ruling House, Prince Olakunle Aderemi, who led other members of the family to a press conference in Ile Ife on Wednesday, argued that the race to fill the Ooni vacant stool was open to contest for the four ruling houses in Ile Ife.
According to him, the family would field candidates for the stool because its children were qualified to join the race.
Although the Osinkola family produced the late Oba Adesoji Aderemi, who ruled before Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Prince said Osinkola deserved to produce the successor of Oba Sijuwade because the family produced the least number of the Ooni among the four ruling houses.
The ruling house based its position on the variation to the 1977 Ife Chieftaincy Declaration, which the Prince said allowed the Ogboru Ruling House to present Sijuwade, who eventually emerged the Ooni.
Aderemi said while the Osinkola had produced four Ooni despite being the most senior of the four ruling houses, the Lafogido had produced eight as well as five Ogboru and five Giesi.
Aderemi said, “Ife Chieftaincy Declaration of 1980 technically throws open the contest for filling the stool of Ooni. The provision in paragraph six of 1980 Chieftaincy Declaration had cancelled the provision in paragraph five of Ife Chieftaincy Declaration of 1957.
“Osinkola Ruling House is one of the four ruling houses entitled to nominate candidate or candidates for the filling of the vacant stool of the Ooni. Osinkola Ruling Puse comprises of five male branches from which candidate or candidates can be nominated for the vacant stool.
“The ruling house believes in justice, equity and fair play. Osinkola Ruling House is a peace loving one and has always been a catalyst for development in Ile Ife.”
The secretary of the family, Prince Bade Adeyemo, said six contestants had shown interest from the ruling house.
Dailypost cullage.
Why does this always happen?
ReplyDeleteI thought in monarchy, the kingship is handed over to the 1st son of the late King.
I thought the throne is only handed over to another only if the king has no heir to his throne.
hmnn...Na wa! They shouldn't shed innocent blood in their quest for the throne
Not everywhere. Some places have ruling families that produce the obas.
DeleteIn this case, what is the role of the chief priest?
In the past people reject things like this but with money and every good thing that goes with the position everyone. Is now interested.
I just hope it does not turn out bloody
Reality is not what happens in nollywood
DeleteEverything na politics Nw, let d riteful family win
DeleteNo BL. This one is not a family inheritance. Na turn by turn between royal families. From the look of things it's like Damola Aderemi is getting more backing. And I hope they don't turn it into a political thing, as I see that the state governor Aregbe and his people are backing another candidate. It'll be a tough one though.

ReplyDeleteSome traditions in the country should be abolished.
It is wrong to bury a human being with a dead king.
It is also wrong to stop the families of a dead king from seeing the corpse of their loved one.Or barring them from taking part in his funeral.

mumu monkey you sound like a fucking broken record. Change the fucking tune as you sound more and more like a retard with each comment you make. How does this affects your life in anyway, because you will just die on top of a matter that is not your concern. You really need hateme jeje to stick your dick in her mouth or ass to relieve you both of some of the hate that has been manifesting inside you since you dropped out of your mothers womb.
ReplyDeleteMadam na u n who?
DeleteWetin concern me
ReplyDeleteMtchewwww dem never ready choose king!
ReplyDeleteThat's why I prefer the binis, even when the oba is alive, they next oba is known to everybody and he is being groom for that particular role,no long thing all ds fighting and too much talk is unnecessary when it is nt a general election
ReplyDeleteI never knew they contest that post, i thought it is automatically given to the late Oba's first son or daughter.
ReplyDeleteNa them sabi
ReplyDeleteDon't mind the bastard igbo's that borrow peoples cultures, no one is saying dont express yourselves but do it positively and stop spewing tribalistic comments. It is only igbo that will abuse and have a problem with yoruba people, abuse edo people, abuse calabar people, abuse hausa people all on this blog. The hate in your hearts is just too much and its only a matter of time before you are dealt with in Nigeria, and you will be shown no mercy because you have already let exposed your hatred and unwillingness to live in peace with other nigerians.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it better to borrow better cultures . than practising one that recommend.burying people alive with a dead king?
DeleteAt least the people they are burying know that they are being buried and prepare for it, unlike killing innocent new born twins that did not commit any offence in the world and don't have a say in their fate.
ReplyDeleteAnon21:42,
DeletePls.tell me I did not just read that.
U are trying to justify.burying human beings alive with a DEAD king .in dis 21st century.
Some people are just stuck in the 10th century. Smh
Am sure producers and directors are waiting for the king to be crowned so they will release their blockbuster.
ReplyDeleteLets talk about Abia and Onitcha fucking retard.
ReplyDeleteThe people they are burying know that they are being buried and prepare for it, it is their choice and their life. Live yours as the stupid tribalistic bigot ass wipe that you are. Unlike killing innocent new born twins that did not commit any offence in the world and don't have a say in their fate and future, you baby murderers. Killing babies is one of the greatest sins you can ever commit.
