A member of the NYSC and also a MDGs Development Knowledge Facilitator, Orji John Uche(KW/14B/2210) has donated a toilet and reconstructed and equipped a Health clinic,NYSC Corps Members Lodge,a Zebra-crossing Lane(the first of it's Kind in the whole of Baruten L.G.A),Donation of Educational books and Maps,Water-tap Buckets,Hand-Sanitizer,Sign-post among other community development projects under which he tagged the 'SHIYA HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECTs' to the rural community of Shiya in Baruten L.G.A of Kwara State.
The 2014/2015 Batch 'B' corps member who is also an NYSC/MDGs advocator said he had trained students in two schools in the area on MDGs awareness/advocacy programme.
The Management Science graduate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka explained that the condition of the residents of his host community propelled him to embark on the projects.
The projects, which he said gulped million of naira included supply of drugs to the clinic and other necessary facilities for health centre.
Other donation according to him, is supply of books to the Government Junior Secondary School, Shiya among numerous others.
He however bemoaned the lack of support, stressing that the elites of the community most especially their Legislators and the Local government that were supposed to support this cause ended up discouraging him.
In his remark, Dr Yunusa Bio Ahmed, a leader in the community applauded the donor for his contribution to the development of the area.
He said no NYSC member in the history of the local government had embarked on such projects.
He urged other members of the corps to emulate Orji John Uche in the course of their service to their Fatherland.
Earlier in his address, Mr Olayinka Gbenga-Asagun, the NYSC Local Government Inspector for Baruten L.G.A lauded the initiative of the corps member.
The Corps Member,Orji John Uche received numerous recommendation Letters including one from the Emir of Okuta,His Royal Highness,Alhaji(Hon) Idris Sero Abubakar,Kperogi-Afon Serobetete III,Baruten Local Honours Award and a NYSC State Coordinator's Certificate of Merit.
