Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has stated that beginning from 2016, only guests with valid means of identification would be allowed to lodge in Sokoto Hotels.
Tambuwal explained that the measure was taken “in view of the precarious security situation in the country and the need to bolster same for the protection of lives and property in the state”.
The Governor, made this disclosure while playing host to his classmates in secondary school at his residence in Sokoto.
According to him, the new policy, which he said was a standard procedure in all parts of the world, would affect both Nigerians and foreigners.
His words, “Sokoto has enjoyed peace but we will not relent on our oars, we will continue to do more to support our security agencies.
“If you are a foreigner, you must present your international passport with a valid Nigerian visa. If you are a Nigerian, the hotels will demand one of drivers’ licence, international passport or National ID Card,” Tambuwal added.
Tambuwal further called on all Sokoto citizens to be security conscious, and not to relent in their cooperation with security agencies.
According to him, responsibility for securing the state lied with all persons.

ReplyDeleteGood move by Tambuwal. Other major states should test run it n if it helps in strengthen security n reduces crime cause of identification tracking due to the valid ids that were submitted then Nigeria as a country should make it mandatory for hotels, resorts, tourist sites etc .Good security is very vital especially in a developing country like ours.
