US STATE DEPARTMENT DENIES OSHIOMOLE’S $6BN STORY

Edo State governor who accompanied Buhari in 4-days State visit to United States has alleged that A minister who served under the former Goodluck Jonathan administration, stole $6billion (more than N1.2 trillion), he told Reporters on Monday.

But quick contact with United States Department in Washington-DC, on the matter said it is false allegation. US State Department denied the story, asked Oshiomhole, to name the official and not drag United States into Nigeria domestic politics, Republic Reporters gathered.

Oshiomhole who failed to disclose the name of the minister said the details were provided last week by United States officials during President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit there. Mr. Oshiomhole, who was part of the delegation, did not give the name of the minister.

“We have moved away from a president that doesn’t seem to know his powers to one that understands that he is a president of the country in the continent,” Mr. Oshiomhole said in response to criticisms of the trip by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

He spoke on Monday at the state house where he and the Kebbi State governor, Atiku Bagudu, as members of the APC governors’ forum, briefed President Buhari on the outcome of a discussion held with APC Senators Sunday.

“PDP destroyed the country- I mean from the lips of American officials; senior officials of the state department. They said one minister under PDP cornered as much as $6billion, and the man said even by Washington standard that is earth-quaking,” he said.

He said the country was being very patient with the PDP; otherwise Nigerians would have been “stoning” anyone carrying the badge of the party.
Mr. Oshiomhole said the PDP government plundered Nigeria, destroyed its institutions, damaged the military, converted the NTA to a party megaphone, destroyed the SSS, went after opposition, and compromised even student unions.

Mr. Oshiomole said under the PDP, there was no law as they were law to themselves. “We are a very patient people. If we were not a patient people, anybody wearing the tag of PDP ought to feel very unsafe because you are all victims- all of us here,” he said.

He quoted American officials as saying that Mr. Jonathan was seen as a confused president who did not know what they issues were, leaving others outside the country “frustrated”.

Recalling a chat with the US Assistant Secretary of State, Johnnie Carson, on the difference between the two administrations, Mr. Oshiomhole said Mr. Carson told him that each time they thought that there was light at the end of the tunnel for Nigeria and it is time to encourage them to build on it, “you we would wake up the following day under president Jonathan to find out that even the tunnel had been removed”.

“Now last week, this same Carson cheered the president’s address at the Institute of Peace. And he said ‘we now have a man of enormous integrity; one that has shown so much faith in the democratic process; one that refused to be frustrated even in the face of massively rigged elections,” he said.

    4. I was wondering how come Oshiomole was the governor privy to the information. See the huge 'ela' he received. It's one thing to criticise, it's another to do so with irrefutable evidence. The time they spend writing long epistles and engaging in press conferences can be spent gathering evidence.
Name calling + fruitless investigation+ no evidence = witch hunt

    5. Ah ah Oshiomole what's this na? I hope u didn't scoop that gist whilst u were gisting with one of the American delegates? Perhaps whoever it was that spoke to u, if at all, did so informally based on the "gutter gist" he heard somewhere. Maybe Oshiomole took it serious and made it an issue upon his arrival.

But he gave the impression that he has a name of the said looter... Meaning... the story was made to come across as "official" but under scrutiny. Maka why oh? And I been dey ur side since na

You had better issue a rejoinder fast Mr man. Cos your integrity is dwindling exponentially.

They provide evidence to back up their story since is denying them.
The evidence should be in form of video recording or the actual list of the looters that they claimed that the US supplied them with.
Failure to do so will show that they are just out to tarnish the image of some people.

Rubbish lots!!!! Can oshiomole and his party members enumerate what PMB has achieved since his assumption of office as the president..? all he's achieved is gallivanting all over the place, intimidation, apc members attacking its predecessor... .. forgetting that, there were grounds laid before them.
Personally,i feel the present government do not have a ready positive plan for this nation. cos' i cant just imagine that after 3month we are yet to have head of ministeries,No concrete program for the unemployed as promised,No free lunch as promised for the primary and secondary school pupils.....and so many other promises made before his winning the election

PMB, I will advice that you concentrate more on rebuilding this nation, stop the baseless accusations made by your party members, create employments, look inward and harness to its fullness the natural resources God has blessed this nation with for the betterment of her people.

    God Bless Nigeria!

  28. Accusations flying left, right and centre. Is this the change? Even if criticisms and probe of the past government are to be continued, can't development be taking place spontaneously? The election campaign period has passed and we are supposed to be on the path of recovery from the 'thievery' of the PDP. Though I put it to you all that APC and PDP are one and the same. The only difference is Buhari and change in party name. Buhari might hate corruption with every fibre of his being and institute all sorts of war against corruption, but I posit that change is still very far away if you recycled politicians continue to surround him. It was the same with the amiable Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

    1. Apt!

      My exact sentiments.
And same thing that wise imam Gumi warned against.
      Everything you said, very wise!
From the simultaneous battle against corruption alongside with development.
To lack of plans that is becoming obvious in the government.
To corruption that will always be a part of us if the economy is not improved and the system that breeds corruption is not overhauled.
To how the incessant probes here and there isn't helping the image of the country(capitalist-wise), we don't want to be perceived as an unstable or totalitarian country. It doesn't foster investment.
Also you touched on the similarity between PDP and APC as regards corruption. I'll add that the later is worse as they added 'deception' and 'appearances' to the frey.
      You spoke well.
As for Buhari, I know his posturing but I don't know if he is corrupt or not. I'm not one to engage in blind trust of another human. A trust so deep that you can forgo democratic processes just cos you trust him to 'do the right thing'. And it's difficult also to judge him from a past military dispensation in the early 80s where the government officials were few and allied to each other. And no media coverage except the hoodwinked newspaper that dare not report otherwise. Too blurry to conclude on his true nature. Bad or good.
      So, we're watching

  32. There is something very salient here, the APC is planning and subtly introducing to their implementers to kill the PDFP before it becomes a vibrant opposition. The APC is instigating the members of the public especially their foot-soldiers to begin openly assaulting PDP members, logos and properties. They are trying to ensure they run government without opposition, continue with their propaganda and lies unabated. The APC is wise in the cunning ways of evil politicking without the mercy of the populace. This is the major thing I have taken away from this idiotic Oshiomole whom I used to have respect for. Maybe he's trying to prove to his inlaws that he is so relevant in Nigeria. Oniranu
