Bayelsa State Governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson, on Friday cancelled the proposed meeting of ex-militant leaders in the Niger Delta called by the leader of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo.
The meeting was earlier scheduled for Saturday (today) in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
But Dickson, in a statement on Friday by his media aide, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said that the governor would meet with the ex-militants in no distant time.
The governor said he would discuss with the ex-militant leaders issues that affected them and the nation as a whole.
He, therefore, called for the understanding and cooperation of all concerned.
A source, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, said many former militants had expressed interest in the meeting called by Dickson.
Tompolo had summoned leaders of the various wings of the militant group to an emergency meeting in Yenagoa on Saturday.
Though, he did not state the agenda of the meeting, Tompolo said the gathering was important.
He had said, “My dearly beloved commanders and leaders of various wings of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, I greet you all. It is my pleasure to humbly invite you to a very crucial and urgent meeting.”
But MEND dissociated itself from the purported meeting and in a statement by its spokesperson, Jomo Gbomo, described the planned meeting as an assembly of dubious contractors and disgruntled elements.
It said those calling for the meeting were reacting on behalf of oil thieves and corrupt public officials.
The group, however, restated its support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts to probe the immediate past administration.
Similarly, a group under the aegis of the National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators called on its 12,000 members and others to shun Tompolo’s meeting.
The NCNDE President, Israel Akpodoro, told told Punch in Abuja that the meeting is laced with mischief and bad intentions.

She said and i quote :"i be tompolo brother girlfriend,i go show you" (pls say that in the thickest warri accent ever)
ReplyDeleteLmaoo! Its was hilarious to me.
So i thought this tompolo guy must be a furry ! A terror to behold!
I am happy he is power-ridden now. I guess my ex-roommate cant go abt being bossy anymore.
Tompolo brother girlfriend, that girl go just go buy stupid trouble. Lol bossy on top tompolo brother GIRLFRIEND, ridiculousness. E sure me die say this brother fit no be brother brother o, must be one cousin nephew or something distant like that. Lol
DeleteIf Bubu refuses to do the needful, he'll get it. Na hia we dey.
ReplyDeleteStella I'm not sure it's really d fear of baba o! Dis tompolo govt guy is really dreadful and has lost the goodwill of his pple and his fellow militants a long time ago, d only thng he had going was his money courtesy oga Jona. There were rumors at a time that he killed his own blood(probably step) brother. He was also said to have side tracked a lot of pple when it was 'raining', now it seems like harmatan and he now wants the same pple to 'fight' for him. He's been on his own since, he can only use money to control pple now unlike then when pple really believed in his 'cause'.
ReplyDeleteTompolo always behaving like a real mafia. What does he know he wants to discuss in the meeting. People had better disassociate from this man cos na serious wahala e go just put all of them in.
ReplyDeleteThese guys have lived the life, They have bought bentleys, mercedes, massarrati and walahi going back into mosquito infested creek go hard. What will they be fighting for now. Asari with all his cotonou investment, very myopic idiot. Anyway, they should still be heard though. I Respect the original Mend, Gbomo jomo, they stood by their course and money didn't make them sway away. Thats hard in Nigeria. RESPECT
