Man Beaten To Death During ‘Deliverance’ In Edo; Pastor Arrested

A 45-year-old man identified as Osayande Ekhator, met his death during a deliverance service at Holy Ghost Deliverance Centre, also called Hope Ministry located at Uselu Quarters in Egor LG, Edo State.

His family had taken him to the church for spiritual cleansing when the incident occurred.

Speaking to reporters, the father of the deceased, Pa Ekhator, said that he suspected that the deliverance went wrong when his son was thrown to the ground, with his hands and legs tied.

“They forced him and tied him up, as usual, and threw him down. From there, they carried a bucket of water and poured it on his body. The mother asked why. They said that was what they usually did; that after struggling, they wanted him to have some rest. After about five minutes, she came out crying that Osayande was dead,” he said.

A sister of the victim, who spoke in confidence, alleged that the victim was “beaten to death”.

She said the “killers” also planned to deposit his remains at a mortuary.

“They beat him to death. They removed his clothes, bathed him and  clothed him. They said they wanted to take him to a mortuary. But we refused.”

According to a resident, there were bloodstains on the head of the deceased.

“I think he was hit on the head. I saw blood on his head when his body was placed in a vehicle,” the resident said.

The Pastor, Mrs. Isoken Ekundaye, however denied the allegations saying several “lunatics” had been healed in the church.

“We don’t kill here; we don’t beat here. If they bring insane people, we heal them,” she said.

Some youths in the area however invaded the church and destroyed its property.

Confirming the incident, Police spokesman Stephen Onwochei, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP), said the pastor had been arrested and the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for investigation.

  18. I think in the process of falling under the 'anointing', he must have hit his head, being that he was tied up, he couldn't control the fall. Pity.
Most of these churches that 'cure' mad people do beat them, but not with wood/iron (can't beat my chest on that), usually with koboko. I used to have one in my hometown, and I've seen them beat these 'mad' people.

If only we realize that everything is not spiritual, psychiatric homes/hospitals with trained staff are there for a reason. Rest in peace young man, I hope the police will do a proper investigation, and punish those that needs to be punished.

  19. Aahaa! Tied his legs and hands and threw him to the ground like coconut. What kind of wicked deliverance is that, now that he's dead their eyes have opened

  20. I never saw where anyone was flogged or beaten in the bible, even the evil spirits were commanded out by Jesus, this Christianity we are practising we should be very very careful...RIP to the dead!

  21. Why would I go for deliverance or have a family of mine go for deliverance and be tied hand and legs? And to imagine they even beat the poor man to death.... these people no hold joy o. The first step has been taken,he's been arrested and justice must prevail

  27. Deliverance gone wrong. They should read the Bible very well and see where Jesus beat anyone while casting out demons from them.

Am sure it is a white garment church. Na so so beat with brooms them sabi.

  28. Good for them, gullible Nigerians keep falling for the so called nonsense deliverance.

  29. We Christians no dey get sense again . Anything the pastor says is right. We forget that most of them are not even from God. God has given us the power of knowing right and wrong yet we choose not to use our common sense.

    ReplyDelete
  30. nothing wrong in going for deliverance.....mad people have been delivered in churches...some of you here have even gone for deliverance so its not deliverance that is the issue but how and where you go for it.....we need wisdom to know where to go for solutions
