Puzzle 1
During a recent police investigation, Chief Inspector Stone was interviewing five local villains to try and identify who stole Mrs Archer's cake from the mid-summers fayre. Below is a summary of their statements:
Arnold: it wasn't Edward
it was Brian
Brian: it wasn't Charles
it wasn't Edward
Charles: it was Edward
it wasn't Arnold
Derek: it was Charles
it was Brian
Edward: it was Derek
it wasn't Arnold
It was well known that each suspect told exactly one lie. Can you determine who stole the cake?

Puzzle 2
Three people check into a hotel.
They pay £30 to the manager and go to their room.
The manager suddenly remembers that the room rate is £25 and gives £5 to the bellboy to return to the people.
On the way to the room the bellboy reasons that £5 would be difficult to share among three people so he pockets £2 and gives £1 to each person.
Now each person paid £10 and got back £1.
So they paid £9 each, totalling £27. The bellboy has £2, totalling £29.
Where is the missing £1?
I go wait for answers
ReplyDeletePuzzle 2: there's no missing 1 pound. They paid 30 pounds, out of which the manager took 25, bellboy took 2 and refunded 3.
DeleteYou should add the bell boy's 2 pounds to the manager's 25, or subtract it from the 27 pounds because it is part of what they paid.
Puzzle 1: Charles? #JambStyleGuessWork #tubutubutinz
Puzzle 1- Charles stole the cake
DeletePuzzle 2- Each person paid £9, totalling £27. The manager has £25 and the bellboy has £2 that's £27 plus the £1 with each of them totalling £3 that makes it £30
Number two: No missing amount...They paid 30, the manager refunded 5: i.e 30-5=25...the 5 was shared into four 1 1 1 & 2 for the boy. add up all and you get back 30.

Puzzle 1:
ReplyDeleteCharles committed the terrible crime.
Looking at Brian's statements, one of the statements was a lie and the other was the truth. Therefore it must have been either Charles or Edward.
Looking at Derek's statements, for the same reason, it was either Charles or Brian.
Therefore it must have been Charles who committed the crime. Double checking this against the other statements confirms this.

It's Charles because in addition to ur explanation, Charles reponse states that 1. It's Edward 2. It wasn't Arnold. Out of which one must be a lie. So we know it's wasn't Arnold which is true so that means no. 1 is the lie .....so Edward is not the thief!
DeleteIt is Charles!
2 puzzle us calculating it from the part of the customers because they think they paid 27. D 2 with d bell boy is alrdy on that calculation. So the remain 3 is the change they each have!

But looking at Derek's statements, for the same reason, it was either Charles or Brian.

Olodo.... Charles name was also mentioned twice
DeletePuzzle 1: Derek
ReplyDeleteNope.... Its charles
Delete1. Charles
ReplyDelete2. No money missing, they spent 27, 2 with the boy, 25 with the manager
P1. Charles stole the cake
ReplyDeleteP2. There is no missing £1! Actually, the bellboy refunds £3 so they each paid £9, totaling £27 which is £2 over what the hotel charges (£25). And that is what the boy keeps.
**ignore "totalling 29" in the preamble. It's just to mess with your head. The boy keeps £2 but it's contained in the £27**
Puzzle 1: it was Derek
ReplyDeletePuzzle 2: dunno
Puzzle 1 is DEREK
ReplyDeletePuzzle 1: charles stole d cake.....
ReplyDeletePuzzle1: It was CHARLES. Charles is the little thieving son of a gun... he should be ashamed of himself!
ReplyDeletePuzzle2: There is NO missing £1. The three guys paid £30 = £10 each. Manager gives Bellboy £5 to return. Bellboy chooses to give back only £3 (the little thief!). Guys get back £1 each making it that they each paid £9. So, it is £9 x 3 persons payment = £27 + £3 reimbursed = £30.
No Missing Money!
Am I a genius or what???
