President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday openly objected to Nigeria Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele letting Jim Ovia, the former Managing Director of Zenith Bank, into his dinner party.
The event was organized for the President by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and The Corporate Council on Africa.
During his remarks, Buhari departed from his prepared text to tell the surprised crowd he was surprised to see Mr. Ovia, and that he thought the CBN Governor had brought him along. He also expressed surprise at the presence of Wale Tinubu, who happens to be a good friend of Buhari’s All Progressives Congress chieftain, Bola Tinubu.
The crowd, which mostly comprised of US businessmen, did not fully understand the heart of Buhari’s position which wasn’t part of his prepared speech for the evening.
SaharaReporters had exclusively reported earlier in the day that Buhari warned his aides not to smuggle Nigerian businessmen into his meetings throughout his US visit. SaharaReporters learnt that as a result of the warning, most of the businessmen and politicians who had streamed into the US capital in the hope of meeting with Buhari did not openly attend his events.
It was also learned that Tony Elumelu, the Chairman of the United Bank for Africa, who was at the dinner yesterday, was only allowed to greet Buhari when it was over.
Elumelu and Ovia were formidable supporters of former President Goodluck Jonathan but since Buhari’s victory, these and many other businessmen have been looking for ways to warm themselves into the Buhari fold.
I guess Sahara got it right this time, this gist is bankable i hear.
That business Men for you .
ReplyDeleteHe should be greet them

If it's from Sahara it's not authentic. They report what they think not what is.
ReplyDeleteFor the first time sahara is right..... The news is authentic.
DeleteHmmm a bit confusing. Read this...
Delete"During his remarks, Buhari departed from his prepared text to tell the surprised crowd he was surprised to see Mr. Ovia, and that he thought the CBN Governor had brought him along. "
The last sentence of that paragraph is confusing. He thought the CBN gov brought him along? How? But he wasn't expecting to see him na.
Anyway, why would Ovia and co crash in on such an event? It's shameful and it undermines their status.
AGIP. That is what they are. They forget that Buhari is not a nonsense man. All these big boys thieves wanting to be with new government. Buhari no dey dance makosa na just go about his 5 times prayers he dey for.
ReplyDeleteBig boys better sit up and face your work. Stop following the Mallam everywhere
Bankable u say? OK ooo
ReplyDeleteNajia politics sef.....
Ouch!
ReplyDeleteNa them sabi.
ReplyDeleteAsides buhari, the aforementioned names are those of thieves!!! Oh yes! I said it.
Now they wana warm their thieving ways in2 buharis good books...this just goes to show, that in politics there is no loyalist.
Peeps are only loyal to u wen u on the throne,as soon as some1 else steps in,they ditch u like a pack of card
What we need to know are the Northern businessmen present at the dinner that Buhari did not object to.
ReplyDeleteMention names or forever keep ur peace. Liar!
DeleteAnd he said that because??? Is that not barbaric??
ReplyDeleteWhat is barbaric in that? Or u just learnt the word barbaric. Obi onugbu!
DeleteI love PMB! Ever the disciplinaria! Its this Idot biz men that has almost brought Nigerian economy to its knees. They want to suck up to PMB, he is not Gej biko. He is not a pushover. Buhahahahahaha
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are the president's brother cos una grammar resemble. Lol
DeletePMB is just making things difficult for himself, does he want to be a saddest, he is looking for a way to sack CBN Governor or suspend him to bring in an Hausa or norther, I know all sector of the Economy this time is gonna be flogged with the Northerners.
ReplyDeleteThis is Nigeria and not Northern states, he should learn how to take things easy, the incumbent president had all it takes to nullify the election and win but he decided to take the part of peace to avoid deaths, of which by now the dust would have been settled, PMB should learn from there and stop all this battle he is fighting here and there and think positive for the youths and gradients of Nigeria to have good jobs and enabling environment for businesses.
He should bring in sharp mind that can reason well, foreign investors to bust the economy etc. If not he will fight all through his life without making much impact.
Dollar is almost 250/1$, but he said N1 to 1$ now is even higher than when GEJ was there, no petrol to buy all food items very high chicken and Turkey is even untouchable now, how many FARMS does Nigeria have?
Grand Pa Please, Biko, Ejooooooo try think well and think sharp, stop fighting and work.

ReplyDeleteHe should concentrate and work n stop picking on people .....
2moro now, he will pick on Tinubu
Mtcheew.
Thank you for this comment
DeleteHnmm won tun de o. Later, they'll debunk it.
ReplyDeleteBaba baby
ReplyDeleteThis man shouldn't be chasing shadows.
ReplyDeleteBut he has told them nobody should bring any business man so why bring him?
ReplyDeleteAsk them o.
DeleteIf this report is even true, why would he openly comment on their presence? This man own too much abeg.
ReplyDeleteWhen he says these things take time and compares his tenure to Obama's he ought to remember that US infrastructure has been well developed for ages so they could afford to wait for Obama to take his time in cabinet member selection.
Nigeria does not have that luxury and things have gone from bad to worse so far. People are tired and hope deferred will definitely make the heart sick, that's why there are so many complaints on his (lack of ) speed.
He should go ahead with his reforms on various sectors with the chosen cabinet members and ignore the sycophants.
No need to even call them out cos it makes him look vindictive, just ignore them and do the job he was elected to do.
Lol..
ReplyDeleteSahara reporters again
ReplyDeleteBaba go slow the disciplinaria
This man should quit bickering and concentrate. Leave the businessmen alone. If you don't want to do business with them, let them be. Afterall he didn't pay their flight tickets to the US Biko. All is business All I am interested in is to remove that CBN governor cos he has not shown any positive impact since he came in. If na Aboki go make am better, by all means let him get in. How can dollar be 250/$? It is really alarming.
ReplyDeleteI greet everyone who made it possi me to chase 16yers of business as usual away. Like or not you can't b doing things the same way and expect different results. Change has in deed come. Anything is better than the past 16yrs. But seriously ask your self why there is some improvement in power supply since this man came. Is that money given now is being used or that equipment not service before is now being service. I ask this because those who gave all sorts of excuses are the same today in NEPA and no new power station have built within this period. Sentimental haters should go and sleep.
ReplyDeleteBusiness men are unrepentant AGIP members any day anytime.,how dem go do na,bizness has to continue.life has to go on.but Baba will sure be a pain in their asses cos he's not looking to get anything from anybody.
ReplyDeleteWahala dey!
That is simply Presidential childishness.
ReplyDeleteAnd that was a reception organised by
American business men. It was not
Organised by President Buhari.
An unwellcome diplomatic blunder.
Bitterness even after being
accorded victory. Very
selfish and unfatherly
childish !!¡
So Buhari is allowed to carry around Amaechi and his cohorts? He only sees the evil in others....
ReplyDeleteBubu is childish in this act, he needs to be more accomodating abeg this is 20th century mot stone age mtcheeeeew.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why a man who has taken over an economy he claims is comatose, feels he should alienate the very people who not only currently own and employ a significant portion of the private sector. So would obama do the same if Bill gates walked into a business lunch in China? This man better have a plan for this economy before we go back to the stagnation years of Abacha. Already we have no fuel, a hugely divergent Forex rate between govt and parallel market....
