Wike Set To Sack Over 13,000 Rivers State Workers Employed By Amaechi?

Over 13,000 civil servants in Rivers State are on the verge of losing their jobs the State Governor, Nyesom Wike is set to lay off the affected workers who were employed by the former governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

This comes as Rivers House of Assembly passed a resolution empowering the Governor to sack the board of the State Civil Service Commission accusing them
of breaching the rules and illegally employing workers into the state Service in the past three years.

According to PM News, the Rivers lawmakers passed the resolution on Tuesday after grilling the Chairman of the Service Commission, Mr Ngo Martins Yellowe on the floor of the House based on petitions accusing the Commission of not passing through due process before employing workers in past three years.

Yellowe, however, told lawmakers that the Commission under his leadership obeyed the constitution and laws guiding employment into the service.

Rivers politics observers, from recent similar processes, however see the invitation and quizzing of Ngo Martins Yellowe by the lawmakers as a prelude to the sacking of the Commission appointed by the immediate past administration of Governor Chibuike Amaechi and also the sacking the civil servants employed three years to date, especially over 13,200 teachers and others engaged by the immediate past administration of Governor Chibuike Amaechi.

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, Chairman Prof Augustine Ahiazu was similarly earlier invited to answer questions about how local government election was conducted which led to his sack.

A resolution was passed mandating Governor Wike to sack the Commission. The RSIEC chairman got sacked the following day.

Similarly, the Rivers State Judiciary Service Commission suffered same fate after its members were invited to the floor of the House.

The fears of over 13,200 teachers in the state, over 400 doctors and nurses employed by the former Governor Amaechi is palpable if they fall into the category of workers adjudged to have been wrongly employed into the state civil service.

You should try to reduce unemployment not increase it....and this is not to spite Amaechi, pls consider the many children whose parents will be unable to pay their school fees as a result of this sack.

Pls, your excellency don't do this to the electorate who massively turned out to cast their votes for u. Please.

  19. The rivers state electoral commision were invited because they forged voters registers and also despite the 4.8 billion naira that was supposed to be used for that fake local government election it was only 1.5 billion that the commission can account for. After the election the workers in the commission were even held hostage while at work because they did not pay the ad hoc staffs they used for the election so what happened to the funds....concerning the teachers Ameachi employed nyesom wike is not sacking them. He will review each and everyone of them and the ones not qualified will be sacked. I know someone that cannot speak correct English that is teaching English in one of the secondary schools so what is she teaching. Also most of them employed are not trained teachers. Some were just put in by connection. So is there anything wrong. Please he is the governor and he will run his state how he feels like

    ReplyDelete
  20. Wike is beginning to lose it. This power play isn't what we need in rivers state at this time. Governance shouldn't be abt discontinuation of positive strides. Employment is a positive stride and is always hailed by any govt who ventures to undertake the exercise.
Please don't increase poverty in rivers state, this will not affect Amaechi in any way. These are d poor masses u re dealing with, not Amaechi.

When they cry to God, God will answer through ur pending case at the tribunal.

  22. How can fmr Gov Amaechi hurriedly employ 300 additional Polytechnic workers, while still owing the teachers he employed in 2013, and give them letters of appointment which took effect from April 1st, 2015, which is 2 months to his exit and you call that properly done or done in good faith? When were the jobs advertised and in which medium? The man just wanted to swell the already bloated civil service and create additional wage burdens on the incoming administration. See, God is not a man so nobody can manipulate Him. If Amaechi must sing the song of Equity and Justice at the market place, he must make sure he sings it with a sanctified voice and a clean heart because no man can fool God.

  36. To everyone ranting about this issue, let me say few things as one who is concerned. This recruitment started in 2013 with a widely publicized advert for academic & Non-academic Staff. It was to be a massive one based on the advert. After that, interview was conducted in the 2nd half of 2014 and the offer was given in April 2015. I may not know the remote or immediate cause of his action but coming up to spew trash about a recruitment that has lasted about 2years may not be wise. I was one of the Academic Staff employed and I had already told my employer I would resign my appointment and was to hand in my resignation letter in May but something just held me back from resigning my current job. Everything has been sealed: offer has been made, acceptance sent, biometrics done, Identity Cards collected and Salary account opening commenced. I had even met my H. O. D and together with new guys in the department awaiting instructions of what to do. I think with this background information, a number of us who want to be objective can comment now.

  42. I feel sorry for Wike. When one is in a hurry to perform, mistakes are inevitable. Some one tell him to slow down. When did he come in? has he finished reading hand over notes to warrant sacking of people? He is too much in a hurry to prove a point. I pray he doesn't get into trouble. Is he aspiring for 2nd tenure at all? Then he needs to take it real easy. Let him know he is working with human beings not stones. People who live in glass houses do not throw stones.

  47. It is deceit to say the 13k teachers were illegally employed... I want to state clearly that the process that brought in ths teachers were legitimate.

For those doubting, go to nairaland job section, the job post is still followed till date.

And to all those who said ths teachers have not been paid since they resumed, I challenge you to provide a proof.

Since assuming office, all wike has done is to sack people...

He laid of 13 contractors of waste management.
    344 lecturers
    timariv workera
now 13k teachers may likely lose their job.

In trying to fight Amaechi, wike is digging the grave of hs downfall.

Kidnap cases has increased in the state, imagine bole sellers are not left out.
ahoada east recentty banned the movement of motorcycles after 6pm to curb the increasing rate of insecurity and theft.

Has wike considered where ths peraons will make daily bread? He claims to have a good plan for the people, is this the rivers vision?

On the day of his inauguration, he claimed to have flagges off operation zero potholes but till date, none has bn filled.

Wike is bent on frustrating individuals in the state which I am not surprised considering his leadership as a local government chairman.

According to a Pdp chieftain in rivers state, the rivers people moved from clean water to dirty water with wike emerging as governor.

Rivers people, this s a tip of an ice berg.... wike has never bn known for good leadership right from his days as an LGA chairman... the residents of obio/akpor will never forget the man who used thugs to torment innocent traders...
