Wike Restores Celestine Omehia's Entitlement As A Former Governor Of Rivers State

Rivers  State  Governor,  Nyesom Wike  has  officially  restored  all the  entitlements  and benefits  of  Sir Celestine  Omehia  as a former  Governor of  the  state.

Reinstating  the  official  portrait  of  Sir Celestine  Omehia  amongst the  line-up of former  governors  of Rivers  State  at the Government House,  Gov Wike said  “I hereby put back his official portrait among those of former governors. He is now entitled  to  the  benefits  of  all former governors. ”

He further  explained  that  his decision  to  restore the entitlements  and privileges  of Omehia  as former  governor  stemmed from the  fact that he worked as governor  of  the  state  between  May 29, 2007 and October  25, 2007, wherein he took decisions on behalf  of  the  State  and initiated projects.

It will be however recalled that on 25 October 2007, the Supreme Court annulled Omehia's election, ruling that Chibuike Amaechi, not Omehia, was the PDP's legitimate candidate, after he was declared the winner of the Rivers State gubernatorial election of 2007, held on 14 April 2007, amidst wide scale rigging and violence.

Responding to the governor's gesture, Sir Celestine  Omehia  described Thursday  as the most historic  day of his political  career. He said that the restoration of his rights as a former governor indicates that his dark political days are over.

Secretary  to Rivers  State  Government,  Kenneth  Kobani,  Rivers  State  Housing  Commissioner,  Barrister  Emma  Okah and the  State Attorney-General,  Chinwe  Aguma were witnesses to the event.

  1. The rate at which this Wike is going on with his pettiness with Amaechi, he might run into trouble in no distant time. Have not heard of any major achievement but all he has been doing still centred around Amaechi. Getting tired of him already.

  2. Ex GOVERNOR Omehia, thank God for today. This man,Sir Celestine Omehia did wonders in those short months he was at the helm of affairs.
Political jingoism and manoeuvre edged him out. He is RCA's cousin so it was a bit hard on supporters.
So,I thank Gov Wike for doing this.

    1. Ma'am it was annulled doesn't mean he didn't occupy the office of the governor. Infact during his brief stay in the office the state felt his impact. He was once a governor of the state.

  12. Annulled or not Sir.Omehia was once a governor of the state because he was sworn in and occupied the office for a period of time, however brief it was. Welldone Gov.Wike......Congratulations Sir.Omehia.

  14. Wike is boring me.
How funny it will all end if Omehia gets put in his lawful place again (at least, as is lawful by the supreme court ruling), then it would be a two-time disgrace.
This action is not right, and I don't see how it's amongst the list of most important problems Rivers State is facing.

  20. Gov Wike should tread carefully cos this is one decision that might come back to haunt,it wasn't the act itself but the motive.

  21. Wike is a liar.He is just trying to lay this as precedent so that when he is kicked out by The Election Tribunal for Election results manipulations,he may also be entitled to such.
