Tinubu Dumbfounded Over Saraki’s Victory

The events at the National Assembly on Tuesday have left leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) speechless.

As they left the International Conference Centre in Abuja where they were supposed to have a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, they could not comment on what has happened at the National Assembly.
It seems that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not only robbed the APC of the top positions at the Senate but also the power of speech.

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was not even able to make comments over Bukola Saraki winning the post of the President of the Senate.

“I have no comment, I have no reaction,” said the national leader of the APC while leaving the International Conference Centre, Abuja, where the APC leaders were waiting in vain for Buhari.

John Odigie-Oyegun, the APC National Chairman, added: “We just watched it (on TV) but we will address you when the whole situation has been re-examined.”
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari was reportedly absent at the meeting scheduled to renew peace among the groups in the leadership struggle of the 8th National Assembly.

The legislators-elect of the APC and some leaders of the party had come together only to get to know that elections were going on at the National Assembly and that Saraki had become the new Senate President.

Meanwhile, PDP senators were reportedly patting each other on the back at the National Assembly, celebrating Saraki’s emergence as the Senate President.
One of the PDP’s senators, representing Anambra State, who declined to be identified, told the press that, given the fact that Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu have just managed to get the top positions at the Senate, the PDP has a strong chance for political resurrection.

Besides that, Yakubu Dogara has just been chosen as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. This is a huge blow to the APC, but most especially to Tinubu, who backed Femi Gbajabiamila for the post.

  4. Abeg he tinubu should park well, he wants to impose his candidates in key positions of political power in Nigeria so he could always hold the country to ransom. The emergence of bukola saraki as the Senate president from an opposition party is a welcome development and Good for democracy. So the APC will not have the privilege to abuse power and passing any unnecessary bill into law. God help Nigeria

    4. Go get Your facts right. Bukola saraki is no longer an APC member, he left APC to form the new PDP because of an irreconcilable difference with tinubu. He's now a PDP member.

  8. I'm somewhat confused. Is Bukola Saraki not in APC? Why the jubilation? Or is it bc Gbajabiamila is Tinubu's personal candidate?

    1. Saraki is APC, but not Tinunbu's choice for Senate president and when he saw that he wasn't going to win, he and his supporters in APC negotiated with PDP to vote him in and they can take d position of deputy and house leader, so d PDP agreed. Bit they also knew there could be trouble, so they decided to sleep at d senate house all night, and do the voting the next day before the opposing members of d APC (Tinunbu's Pple) show up...and that was how Bukola Saraki swindled Tinunbu...

my own problem now is that it will be almost impossible for Buhari to fight corruption now, cos they can hold him to ransom if they want and refuse to pass d budget, amongst other things. It also means dat Bukola Saraki can be president soon, cos if he can pull off d same stunt, then Buhari can easily be impeached by the senate....and d number 3 man, immediately becomes number 1.

    2. Gbajabiamila was supposed to run against Dogara (both APC) but Tunubu's house of rep candidate (Gbajabiamila) lost again...kapich?

      Delete
    3. Bukola Saraki is an APC member but he was supported by the PDP members to emerge as the Senate President against the APC preferred candidate, Lawan. The jubilation now is that PDP is the deputy Senate President and also the majority leader in the house. So APC is now splitting as there's faction in the party.

    4. Bukola saraki is not an APC member, He's a PDP member, That's why PDP members are excited, because it's like a miracle that the ruling party at the executive arm is not the ruling party at the legislative arm of government. Which will make way for democracy and it might possible be a stepping stone to PDP rising again. And it will also create a level playing field for both APC and PDP which will make room for healthy opposition and democracy at it's peak.
      Change is here.

    8. Anon 16:23......u made a good point in ur last paragraph,,but my question is: What makes you think Tinubu's preferred candidate will not do the same if he had won that seat??

I hope you will agree with me that Tinubu has his personal reasons for 'rooting' for Lawan. Its not news anymore that Tinubu is also a corrupt person. If Lawan had won, there's no way he would pass bills that will counter the interest of the one that put him there........and Tinubu could also manipulate him to get GMB outta the way so that he could be in total control. So u see, those things u fear that Saraki may do could be done if Lawan had won too.

On another note and in my opinion,,I see GMB's hand in all of this. I am sure you are asking HOW?
GMB summoned them for a meeting on d day the election was supposed to hold and he didnt show up. They were waiting for him somewhere while election was going on at d senate........what point can u make outta this? Could it have been that GMB diverted their attention for someone else to emerge the Senate President rather than indulging Tinubu's 'godfatherism' and 'imposition of candidate',,thereby giving him room to have interfere in his administration???? Dont also forget that while APC leadership issued a statement that they do not support Saraki's emergence as SP,, GMB also issued a statement acknowledging Saraki as d SP.
Just d way Tinubu is blocking Fashola from getting close to GMB and GMB against all odds is bringing Fashola close to himself. My point is GMB does not want Tinubu's interference and d best way to achieve that is to make sure Tinubu's 'boys' dont hold key positions in his cabinet and dt is the only way GMB can tackle Tinubu.

GMB is a Nigerian too and he is not naive to Tinubu's antics in d past and his plans in dis new government.

****This is strictly my opinion,,you may chose to agree or disagree****

  18. It's only those that have minimal knowledge about politics that will disagree with this zoning...How can a CPC man be president, and a cpc man too Ahmed Lawan wants to be Senate president? it is inappropriate...Saraki is the most deserving and well experienced of them all,he's a two term former gov.under PDP and an intelligent senator too though his thirst for power and greed made him defect to ACN.
They should just let peace be else Saraki would defect back to Pdp and that is a double catastrophe for APC.

  27. Why is he surprised? APC is just a party just like Pdp. I am not interested in the party that gets the seat, but the person who will do the job well. But I think it is good for him as he was getting really confident as a Jagaban. APC will just try to foil Sarakis attempt to head the senate.faulting most of the decisions they make.

  32. Is not yet Hurrah for Saraki because Tinubu is a smart politician. Saraki can be set up and be impeached anytime is just a matter of time. If any serious allegation is labelled against him with so much evidence and ghana must go exchang by midnight he is out. The only smartest senate president our country has ever seen is David Mark for him to be in that seat for 8years.
The seat is too hot for any dull person to stay 3-6months. With Saraki previous crime is easy to set him up and impeach him because his got no moral justification to be senate president. If our system work both him and Tinubu should have been in prison but everything goes in our land.
