    You survied because you never entered the lift from the ground floor.u alighted at d ground flor before it took off to the first floor.in other words.u got the total number of casualty from the counted lifeless bodies.

    If everyone died halfway up to the 4th floor and the writer is reporting this, it automatically means this is a reported incident, implying that the writer wasn't involved at the point when the lift cable snapped. So the writer went off either at the 1st floor or was one of the 2pple who went off at the 2nd floor.

      Yes, as an addendum to my answer above, u got out of the lift on the 2nd floor. It couldn't have been the 1st floor because that way, you wouldn't know the number that got out and in at the 2nd floor. Since you got out at the 2nd floor, you knew the number of people left in the lift after u got out, and the number of people that got in. Also, at the 3rd floor, no one got it, hence nothing changed with respect to the number of people inside d lift that eventually crashed. Ok bye!
