Mrs Ibim Semenitari Reacts To The Invasion Of Her Home By Rivers State Government Officials

Rivers State former commissioner for information, Mrs Ibim Semenitari, whose residence was raided yesterday by Rivers State Government officials and her Lexus SUV which was said to be government property, towed away.

She reacted to the incidence yesterday.

Subject: RESPONSE TO MR NYESOM WIKE
PRESS STATEMENT BY MRS IBIM SEMENITARI

On Thursday June 18, 2015, over 10 policemen armed with machine guns and in two trucks - one Ford Transit and one Hilux arrived my residence, No 12 A Ernest Ikoli Street, Old G.R.A Port Harcourt. Without either a search warrant, letter or precious information, they forced their way into my premises.

My security guard on duty requested to know their mission and who sent them. They refused to disclose either, but went round taking photographs and videoing my premises.

The security guard got in touch with my assistant who spoke with the men, explaining to them that I was out of town and again requested to know their mission and purpose.  Again they declined insisting on seeing me first. She then got in touch with me by phone as we were uncertain as to the identity of the policemen in question. Upon further investigation and after about 3 hours of them laying siege on my premise, I was told that they were from Rivers State Government House and had been sent to recover vehicles in my possession.

They attempted to break into a Range Rover Jeep belonging to my Husband and bought long before I was made Commissioner in Rivers State Government, damaging the front door. The vehicle in question contrary to the lies being paraded is not an armoured vehicle and has never at any point belonged to the Rivers State Government nor its agents including myself as Commissioner of Information.

By the time I finally made contact with them and expressed my displeasure, they insisted that they would take away a Lexus jeep duly allocated to me as Commissioner of Information and which by law I am entitled to leave with upon leaving office. The monetization policy of the government allows public officers to leave government with their official vehicles as this is in lieu of vehicle, allowance, transport and other allowances, which they cannot draw because of the monetization policy of 2002.

Mr. Nyesom Wike served as Chief of Staff, and upon departure left with all the vehicles he used as Chief of Staff. This has been the practice since this democratic dispensation when President Olusegun Obassanjo instituted the monetisation policy. Having served as Commissioner for two tenures, I am entitled to my status cars and have proof of allocation.

While I understand that Mr. Wike feels a dire need to destroy the reputation of Governor Amaechi and all those worked with him, it is unacceptable that he will engage in brigandage, thuggery and underhand tactics to do so.  A simple letter from any government official requesting me to make a submission or tender documentation would have been the appropriate way to go and I would have willingly tendered all the relevant documents to them. Breaking into my home, invading my privacy, damaging my property and removing property from my premises is inappropriate and illegal.

I have chosen however to put out these details in the public space as it is apparent that for some persons only a destruction of my hard earned reputation would do and this I would not accept. My records in the Ministry of Information are crystal clear I hope that Mr. Nyesom Wike is able to say same about his tenure in every office he has held. Forcing their home into my home unlawfully isn’t the appropriate way for any government that claims legitimacy to behave.

  3. It's so wrong of Wike's people to force themselves into her home without any prior notice or warrant.

This is thuggery and it's so sad that at this level we are as a country, such lawlessness is still being perpetrated by govt officials.

    1. But can two wrongs make a right? If Ameachi broke protocols and Wike in his wisdom thinks that he's a better replacement than Ameachi, he should have followed due process to recover whatever is the the govt of the state. Seems to me like Wike's assumption into office is to leverage and settle scores with Ameachi...which is detrimental to the people of Rivers. Personal vendetta is what this appears to be.. while he's forgetting to serve the people he swore to represent. To what end and for how long? This looks bad on his reputation and not Aneachi's. No matter what Wike does it won't mean anything to Ameachi because he's left rivers and has moved on. Wike should face his job and prove the difference he can make if any.

  10. My dear, I believe you. Wike is creating enemies for himself. What goes around comes around. One day he will leave that office and it will be pay back. Am not a fan of Amaechi buy he shouldn't give a dog a bad name just to hang it. Enough of all these lies!

  11. 'Legally allowed to leave with vehicles allocated to you...' This is the kind of nonsense we have been talking about. How much is the transport allowance of David Cameron that an armoured Lexus jeep would be the equivalent of Ibim's allowance for four years? Yet they shout "change!". Where is the change?

The furniture and facilities stolen from the brick house were also allocated, abi? We go soon hear say her house was allocated to her too!

Amaechi invaded the homes of a lot of people without warrants, what did Ibim say? Abegiii.....

Wike, recover all government property with these thieves and brigands. Enough is enough!

    1. If anyone has issues with the retainership of government properties owned by civil servants in or out of office, mit should be addressed in the constitution and not treated individually. If what she says is correct then how is it her fault? And the "change" mantra didn't start from Ameachi's governance but started a month ago since Buhari assumed office. So any blunder that was committed before that shouldn't be considered a contradiction to the desire for "change" slogan

  13. You are a big thief. If all government officials in every administration leaves office with their official vehicles, where will the resources come from to buy new vehicles to run the government. That was how the present government of Bauchi state forcefully recovered 22 vehicles from the four wives of the erstwhile governor of Bauchi State-Isa Yuguda. Animals!

    1. I don't understand again o. Isn't it that they usually deduct monies from their salary or allowance so that they can own whatever they use after office? This isn't new now. How much is the car that she couldn't have bought it conveniently from her salary or whatever. We all know the deal with govt officials, even private parastatals have similar arrangement with their staff. They give u car loan and deduct from ur salary.. so how can she leave the car is she's paid for it?

In lagos state for example, their commissioners are given properties (staff quarters) to live in GRA.....if u want the house after you leave office they give u the option to buy it.. although at a subsidized rate. if u don't want it you can leave once ur tenure is over. It's a choice given civil servants so I don't understand the fuss.

  25. Nyesom is just on a witch hunting mission. He can not making 2 sentences without bad mouthing the previous administration in which he also served in at some point as a chief of staff. No matter what anyone thinks, this is wrong and illegal. Let Wike continue his thuggery afterall that is what he is known for. Let him use his entire days in office on witch hunting mission. PH is now stinking with virtually every area turned to a refuse dump.
If we shld probe his days as chief of staff in Rivers state not to talk of his days as the minister of state for education, a lot of canker worms will be opened. Wike, remember when u ordered for 9 prado jeeps as chief of staff and inflated the prices from 9m to 18m each. Wike, as a minister of state for education, u collected 100m from E****C after they received the advance payment from federal government for a contract awarded to them for construction of a ******* in Delta state. Stop forming righteous bcos for those of us that know u very well, Amaechi is a lesser evil compared to u.

Amaechi and his team had absolutely NO RIGHT to refuse to do a proper handover to the incoming administration. accusations and counter accusations will continue to fly around as a result..

Honestly Stella, i know there is freedom of speech and all, but you need to speak to your blog visitors to refrain from being tribalistic. If we cannot over look tribalism we cannot move forward.
Also it is wrong as a nation to use derogatory words like abbacy to to refer to the President (not that i voted for him).

  38. It's hypocrisy to get insult someone for doing something then doing same.....how is wike different from amaechi now? He should have done things the proper way by writing her a letter and summoning her to return the property rights by monetization laws she is not entitled to them.....if she refuses then you get a warrant and forcefully retrieve them....if this society has to change we need to keep doing things the proper way tof lol it becomes a way of life.....

  40. The monetization policy needs to be revamped, perhaps completely stopped in the interest of optimizing scarce resources for the greater good. Meanwhile, thuggery, intimidation and lack of respect for the rule law, needs to stop now. Citizens deserve a measure of peace especially within their private quarters.
