A Kaduna-based lawyer, Sunny Akanni, has threatened to challenge President Muhammadu Buhari in court if he failed to appoint ministers from each of the 36 states of the federation as stated in the Constitution.
He said it would amount to gross violation of the Nigerian constitution if the President failed to appoint ministers to represent each state of the federation.
According to him, the constitution is so clear on ministerial appointments by the President, wondering why the President would be contemplating reducing the number of ministers in order to cut cost.
The lawyer said, “I have heard speculations that the President wants to reduce the number of ministers to be appointed to save cost of governance. That is a very good step and I commend him for that, but in taking such step, he has to be conscious of the provisions of the Constitution as well.
“Section 147 of the Constitution said the President shall appoint at least one minister from each state of the federation, who shall be indigene of such state.
“So, if a minister is not appointed from my state, I will challenge it in court because that is a violation of the provisions of section 147 of the Constitution. So it is compulsory that he appoints ministers from each of the states, he has no choice.”
Punch reportage.
All na Hunger Oga lawyer !!! Lol
ReplyDeleteReal hunger! Like the idiot doesn't know what's happening with the economy.
DeleteBe silent! Stop showcasing your ignorance.
DeleteGood morning to u all, stella hope u are cool. God bless Nigeria
ReplyDeleteShoroniyen? Counsel this is exactly the problem we have in Nigeria. Before you go challenging the presidents decision to appoint ministers ask yourself if we can afford the expensive cost of governance in Nigeria? Ask yousrelf how effective has it been inbthe past with the appointment ministers from every state in the federation?
ReplyDeleteApart from the minister of power, Finance, works, sports, Information, defence, health, petroleum, aviation and in recent times; agriculture. Which other ministry or minister apart from those listed have been known to be active since 1999?
Oga lawyer if you know your firm lacks briefs, instead of trying to ambulance chase bybsuingbthe president to attract briefs, you should dig deep and be more creative and stop trying to distract the government and looking for cheap publicity.
Stranger, you are truly a stranger in the country. Nothing to add.
DeleteOga, the constitution is the constitution

DeleteSome people are just not intelligent tho
DeleteHow would he appoint ministers if he's trying to cut down the ministries?
Please y'all should already try to be intelligent when commenting. It hurts to see so many comments from those who claim to be graduates or undergraduate
Common sense would tell you that when he's done with cutting down ministries that he will appoint.
I'm happy he's cutting down ministries so many of these people just go to work and sit doing nothing or just go to mark attendance and go back home and at the end of the month, salaries are paid
Money making he said he will go 2 court if Buhari refuse 2 appoint a minister from his state. Meaning if his state is inclusive n it's still not up 36 ministers as stated in d const. He will be fine. How daft can a man b?
DeleteBuhari is truly taking too much time to come up with his ministerial appointment but I still feel all this adjustments here n there is necessary.
Stella, U posted at 7:00??? How's dat possible???
ReplyDelete* Julibel Emerald Oliodu * *
DeleteI think Stella should" repair her time" to avoid unnecessary confusion. I have discovered it sometime ago. Her own time is faster than normal time by one hour.
Juliet, it is called time traveling. Lol
DeleteStella is one hour ahead of us I think. Germany is one hour that's why.
DeleteIt is possible because we live in different continents and time zone. Thanks
DeleteOk.

This is just so clear, but am still wondering why d delays in appointing ministers
ReplyDeleteMe too. Is he trying to say d search 4 honest n reliable persons 2 b appointed is proving so tough? Na so good abi reliable men/women scarce reach?
DeleteBuhari is too slow.. now he is looking 4 an excuse to keep crawling like a snail by saying d treasury is empty instead of moving dis country forward.. ode man
ReplyDeleteCLUELESS TO SNAIL-PACE.
DeleteOh,Naijarians
Did not know that a minister has to come from each state. Buhari has to follow the constitution then.
ReplyDeleteI thought he was saying he wanted to sue Buhari for the delay in the appointment of ministers then I would have said the Kardashians are learning when it comes to attention seeking.....
That's very courageous of the lawyer.
ReplyDeleteBuhari should be monitored closely and ensured that he abide by the federal character principle. It is unacceptable for him to full everywhere with mallams and Alhaji. This is what is being speculated to happen in his NNPC appointments.
He should not toy with NNPC o.
DeleteMy food comes from there o
If e like mk e flood everywhere wit aboki Tess nor care. Afterall when d place was flooded wit non mallams it almost collapsed. If they had performed there won't b need 4 a change.

ReplyDeleteGOOD MORNING GOOD PEOPLE
Good morning Irene sweets.
DeleteA relic like Buhari can only reason along with fellow relics so, I won't be surprised if he decides to go for his age brackets. What were Nigerians thinking when they voted a relic to rule them?
I am still waiting for the CHANGE.
Mr money maker big mouth, who did Jonathan fill government with. Why body dey pain you like this. Buhari is the president for the next 4 years. Deal with it or STFU.
