The governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, today inaugurated 13 commissioners and also ordered the reduction of salaries and allowances of the state political office holders by half, in view of the prevailing economic crunch facing the state.
Speaking while inaugurating the new commissioners, Gov. Ganduje lamented that the state and the nation are facing economic crunch hence the need to reduce the cost of governance. He asked the commissioners to see it as a sacrifice for the state.
Those affected by the salary reduction are the governor, Deputy Governor, Hafiz Abubakar, all the 13 Commissioners, Special Advisers and others.
Kano is the second state after Kaduna to reduce salaries of public officials in the last three weeks.
Asides salary reduction, the governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, also slashed the number of ministries from 19 to 13.
