Gov Aregbesola And Ben Bruce Clash Over Donating His Wardrobe Allowance To Osun Workers

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District, has said that in the spirit of the month of Ramadan observed by Muslim faithfuls, he will not reply Governor Aregbesola who lampooned him over his decision to donate half of his wardrobe allowance (N500,000) to the unpaid workers in Osun state.

“I’ll take whatever attacks come my way but nothing and nobody can dissuade me from doing what my conscience directs in helping my fellow man.

The month of Ramadan is here. Many unpaid workers will fast. With what will they break their fast? I thought of that and it moved me to act.

I may not be a Muslim, but I respect Islam and I believe that it is wrong for me to respond to any attack during the Holy month of Ramadan.

I wish the Muslim Ummah a successful fast. Please pray for God’s intervention in Nigeria so that peace may return. Ramadan Kareem, ” he posted on twitter.

It will be recalled that Governor Rauf Aregbesola who has been unable to pay his workers for more than seven months ridiculed the gesture of the lawmaker in a statement, describing it as the height of hypocrisy.

The governor, in a statement by the Director. Bureau of Communication and Strategy Office, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, asked why it was Osun State – out of the over 15 states that had not paid salaries – that Murray-Bruce wanted to donate his money to. He concluded by saying Senator Ben Murray-Bruce was only playing to the gallery.

The whole clash started after Murray-Bruce, a PDP member, said on his official Twitter handle that he would donate his wardrobe allowance of over N500,000 to the unpaid workers in Osun State and widows in his home state of Bayelsa.

Murray-Bruce had said he would give half of the money to the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Osun State who would distribute the money to the unpaid workers, and the other half to Bayelsa Widows which has now resulted in an altercation between both parties.

I think Ben Bruce' announcement embarrassed the governor...LMAO...
na siddon look we dey..when Ben pays those workers salary, lets see what
will happen.
Ben Bruce i like you and like your fire, didnt know you had any before....You have my voice abeg!

    4. I repeat, Bruce should go and find somewhere to sleep abeg. Is it only in Osun that staff are owed salaries? Aren't there aggrieved workers in Rivers and a few other states? Yeah right he wants to donate half his salary.. show off is what I consider this. There are people under his nose that haven't been paid too, but he chose to skip them to go all the way to Osun.. what a charity that he has refused to kick start from his door step. Like I keep saying, I just don't dig this man. Msheeeewww

  6. I kinda asked the same question as to why he singled out Osun state. But he must have a reason for that. I wonder how many people this 500k will pay off theirs. And also if they are paid by him,the one that the state government is get to pay them nko?

    1. He singled out Osun workers because they haven't been paid their wages for over 7months.

      Delete
    2. I wonder too. When there are other states involved. And 500k will pay how many staff? Does he know the staff strength in the state ministry? So he wants to give a few and the others should do what? This will serve nothing, not unless he wants to pay everyone of them, he should let us hear word!!!!!!

  7. I support Ben Bruce jare. Eventhough we all know he is just trying to be popular by doing donating his allowance. The only thing incompetent leaders deserve is ridicule if any one can bring one their way.
If not for the innocent workers who deserve their wage, I would not have supported the bail out some of this reckless governors are asking for because if you like give em a trillion naira... thief go still be thief.

    1. I cant comprehend how people that have responsibilities can be owed for 7 months??
      How do they survive?
      How do they feed?
How do they pay their children 's fees?
How are they supposed to pay rent?
How are they supposed to fend for their dependants?
7 months is almost a year already!

Aregbesola deserves all the shame and ridicle,he should hide his face in shame, what a failure!!

    2. Thank you o. That is the exact same question I asked when I first read about the situation in Osun.

    3. Whirlwind it's not the man's fault. Like I said up there, blame the federal government for cutting their pay by 40%. Think about it, if u are used to a certain amount monthly as ur wages, u plan according to it monthly, right? Then without notice ur employer slashes your pay by 40%, how will it not affect your monthly budget for the things u do? Having to rub Peter to pay Paul was what the states involved, not only Osun, had to resort to. My question is, how or where did the federal government expect them to see the difference to meet up? Esp if the state is such that doesn't generate it's own monies.. this started last November when the campaign began, and I remember clearly that the states involved raised an alarm to Jonathan then but no one answered. Now the state governors are to blame? It's really not fair

In December in Ekiti State didn't we see how their civil servants and Policemen in uniform, started to queue to receive rice and life chicken from Fayose? Everyone abused them then that they are cheap and a disgrace for collecting rice for Xmas. That was what the man did to make his staff happy for the season when the federal government refused to pay. Now look at what is happening. If they see that rice and chicken now dem no go grab am? Na so

    4. Sisi Eko why are u talking like you have never heard of the word priority? Even if the allocation was reduced the governor should have prioritized. Pay workers first then whatever is left can be used on projects. You can't embark on projects for the state when you have not paid workers salary. How do you want them to feed? I remember okonjo iweala telling governors that their priority should be salaries first before any project. It's nobody's fault that oil price went down hence the reduction in revenue.

  8. Abeg, Ben Bruce should go and sit down joor.

Why does he want to donate only his wardrobe allowance and not all the allowances he will be paid including the money he stole while he was DG of NTA.

He has a bigger agenda which I believe he's trying to curry the favour of the Nigerian populace. 2019 is not far. Na siddon look I dey.

    1. So when he donates all his allowances, will u give him urs to fend for his own family? We all know he's doing this to gain positive popularity for future purposes, we all know its prolly not cos he's a good man buy for political purposes, but if this feeds some people, even if its just one person, then its very much welcomed. Aregbesola should bow his head in shame already.

    2. Shut up joor! Mechie eze ure gi ahu. U have a very dirty heart. How many people have u helped? Even if "he has a bigger agenda" according to u,is it now an offence to financially help unpaid workers? If u can't help people without attaching anything to it,others can! Siddon dey look, lucozade.

    3. Who you help? Someone is denying himself the opportunity of been a couple of millions richer and you dare to request for all his allowances? How ungrateful can humans be
