French Open 2015: Serena Williams Wins Landmark 20th Major

Serena Despite being sapped by a nasty flu for much of the last week beat Lucie Safarova 6-3 6-7 (2) 6-2 to win the French Open on Saturday and claim a landmark 20th major.

"It seems a little bit like a dream," Williams told reporters. "Like, is this really
my life? Is this really happening right now? So yeah, it's really kind of weird."
But as the score suggested, this was no walk in the Bois de Boulogne -- a park close to Roland Garros -- for Williams against the Czech.

The way the tournament unfolded for the 33-year-old, perhaps it should have been expected.
Williams did the almost unthinkable by blowing a 4-1 advantage in the second set and trailed 2-0 in the third.

She recovered, to no one's surprise, and now only Graf has more majors in the Open Era at 22. With Williams going strong in her early 30s, Graf's record is under serious threat.

The world No. 1 even has a realistic chance of matching the German in 2015, since she's claimed five Wimbledon titles and is the three-time defending champion at the U.S. Open.
Of course that would mean Williams winning all four majors in a season, something not accomplished since Graf did it in 1988.
But who'd rule her out?
Not her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou.
CNN Reportage.

Congrats Serena!

    1. Serena serving for the tournament at 6-5, got broken, lost the tie break, down a serve in the 3rd set and still won.
I just love her like my favorite red velvet cake.
She is a true example of; its not by beauty or on point brows, yellow color and sleek figure... 'it is in you'

Serena played Azarenka in the 3rd round.
Azarenka was leading @ 6-3 but Serena still beat her. I know Azarenka will give Serena a run for her money but she's been plagued by injuries since that nasty fall last year.
That not withstanding, Serena will beat her with one hand tied to her back.
Safarova sent out Sharapova so i think she is worth the finals.

  14. Oh my God! Serena almost killed me today. I almost had a heart attack during the second set when she gave up the 4:1 lead and finally lost the set. I was like, Is this what I get for being a serious fan? Ha! I even put off my TV for a while wishing for some miracle to happen. Because it didnt really look good for her. But at last she proved why shes the undisputed number 1 in the world. To me, the best ever. I so love her. Big Big congrats to her.

    1. Yeah! That tension was bad but i kept my cool knowing that Serena is the queen of comebacks. Most of her matches in this tournament, she was always a set down and still... Nadal broke my heart though #sobs

    2. Yeah, Nadal broke my heart too. Dethroned as the King of clay by Novak. I hope Warinka beats Novak Djokovic in today's final.

  18. I love watching Serena vs Azarenka matches even more than Serena vs Sharapova matches. Meeen the tension in those matches are out of this world. Thats where you see REAL competition. These two make the game of tennis thrilling to watch. But in the end I just love Serena for never falling my hand. Shes just so dependable and bettable. You can easily win betting your life on her. The ever reliable Serena. A true Die Hard Fighter. Just love her.
