22-year-old boy, Emmanuel Kalejaiye, who stabbed his mother to death in 2013 has been jailed for life.
According to IBTimes reportage, Emmanuel, a biochemistry student stabbed his mother, Tolu Kalejaiye (a 44-year-old Accountant), more than 40 times at their home in Wickford, Essex, on the morning of 26 September 2013 and then dressed up in women's clothes in an effort to fool neighbours into thinking his mother was still alive, as he planned to dispose of her body.
During the attack, Mrs Kalejaiye managed to call her boyfriend, Leo Shogunle, at around 7.30am, however he only received the message when he woke later that morning.
Shogunle arrived at the house at around 10am where he was confronted by his partner's bloodied body lying on the kitchen floor. Kalejaiye claimed his mother had been attacked and then fled the scene.
He was later caught on CCTV at around 10.30am buying a can of coke and a pack of Maryland biscuits at a local post office before handing himself in to police.
Police found a heavily blood stained pink hoodie and pink trousers, which Kalejaiye had bought from Primark a month earlier, as well as scraps of paper detailing an elaborate murder plot.
Receipts found at the house showed he had bought the murder weapon from Lidl just a month before the brutal stabbing.
During a police interview, he signed a confession stating: "I admit killing my mother this morning by stabbing her. I did this because she subjected me to a lifetime of physical and mental abuse. She used the Bible to rationalise what she did to me. I believe she manipulated and brainwashed me. I have been very depressed for a long time. I have tried to overcome it but I couldn't take it anymore."
Mother of two, Tolu Kalejaiye's bloody body was discovered at her home by her partner.
Kalejaiye later changed his story saying a gang of five masked men burst into his home, forced him to stab his mum then threatened him with further violence if he told police.
The jury heard the chilling three-minute voicemail in which the mother-of-two can be heard screaming "don't stab me, don't stab me - you're a demon".
During the trial the prosecution alleged that Kalejaiye disliked his mother, who was described as strict and with an explosive temper, and that he 'meticulously' planned to kill her.
Before sentencing, Kalejaiye's counsel, John Benson QC told the judge: "It was an horrific incident, harrowing for anybody listening to the 999 call. She died in terrible circumstances and he will have to come to terms with taking the life of his mother."
Passing sentence, Judge Christopher Ball QC said: "This was an horrific killing. You drew up plans to kill her, over weeks, if not months, and to dispose of the body."
A jury found the Essex University student not guilty of murder, but guilty of manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility, due to mental health issues.
He has since been in a secure hospital for psychiatric assessment. The judge sentenced Emmanuel to life in prison with a minimum of 15 years and three months. He accepted that mental illness played a part in the killing and said Kalejaiye would receive treatment in jail.

DeleteStella, like I said in that sickle cell post yesterday, please create a platform to address the way parents handle their kids...esp those who like to flog their children mercilessly. Granted we are Africans and grew up with having our parents slap us every now and then...but time and things have changed. Kids these days are more prone to being rebellious in a jiffy.
Look at the past year and count the statistics of the number of children who have killed either of their parents because of the most useless reasons like the one here. Remember the young lad who attends redeemer' university, who killed his father because he slapped him for not saying "amen" while they were praying.
That boy had a lot bottled up before the unexpected pushed him to commit murder that day. Not am excuse but it happened.. Same with the lost child here. And a lot more, as we speak here, some are planning to retaliate the next time their father or mother raises a hand to hit them. Please I beg again, amplify the reasons why parents should adopt another means of reprimanding their kids other than physical punishment or torture.
Truth is most kids these days are too opinionated and they believe that it is their right to do as they deem fit.. which to an extent is correct, but our African parents do not want to understand this. Allowing ur kid have his or her way doesn't mean that u are a weak parent or a failed one.
Matter of fact u should allow them make their mistakes so they can appreciate your guiding rules. It is better to have a dialogue with a child, make him understand things from ur perspective instead of beating him with ur hands. When u show them respect and treat them like adults by having constant dialogue, you'll be amazed at how much u can achieve instead of using force. Let us learn to speak WITH our kids rather than talk or shout AT them.. emphasis on "WITH".. as there's a lot of difference btw talking 'with'...and taking 'at' a child. My opinion though
*Clapping* Good one. R.I.P to the dead.

ReplyDeleteSeriously I cant come to terms with the reason why a human being, created by God will kill another, also created by God and the laws of this world will just confine the person to one fine room especially in the Western world, be given food, water, shelter, warmth and simply be allowed to breathe in air. My own is, kill and get killed. You shouldn't even be allowed to live and breathe in air whiles you must have murdered someone in the most gruesome manner. Ha! Some people are just wicked and they should die the same way they murder others. I am so angry. My piece of mind.
ReplyDeleteIt is well, may our children not be the end of us.
ReplyDeleteMay God help us. So many parents are going through similar problems with their kids. I am running from my child because she had told me to my face she will kill me anytime she set her sees me. She had call me names all because she believed I love her younger brother than her and refusing to help her with her kids. My advice to parents is if you have a rebellious child, pls don't wait until you are sent to the grave or jail. Please run for your life. King David ran from his son Absalom.
