WEAK POSITIVE PREGNANCY
A friend of mine lost her baby a few hours after she delivered. The doctors said he had severe birth asphyxia. That was in February.
Since then, she has been trying to conceive. This month she missed her period, she went for a pregnancy test, and it was positive. Now she is 6 weeks pregnant.
Yesterday, she started bleeding. At first,I thought it was implantation bleeding, but the bleeding increased and with clots too.
She wasn't having any pain or cramps. She went to the hospital and they did another test for her. The doctor said its positive, but very weak positive (she saw her period last May 10). She also went for a scan, the doctor said the scan result did not show anything. She bled throughout yesterday. Today she said the blood changed from dark red to light red and its not much. She's so confused and distraught.
My question is, is there anything like weak positive? And how soon can a scan detect pregnancy? Has anyone experienced this bleeding in early pregnancy and still carried the baby till full term?
Thank you
This one pass me abeg...
ReplyDelete@poster weak positive simply means d level of her beta human chorionic gonadotropin hormone is low and yes a scan can be detected from 6wks although some as from 8wks.
DeleteGO SEE UR DOCTOR
It happened to me. I had a positive pregnancy test. I was suppose to be 9 weeks pregnant. I was spoting I though it was implantation. Bcos I have always spotted when am pregnant. I have 2 kids by the way. I went for a scan, the baby was not showing. My uterus was just black. So the d Dr said it the baby stopped growing. I had to do a d/c to remove it.
DeleteIts your emergency call docs
ReplyDeleteThis one pass me and I don't know how helpful google will be
ReplyDeleteWish ur friend all d best. I hope ur friend hasn't lost d baby
ReplyDeleteShe should ensure its not ectopic pregnancy can be very deadly.... She needs to go to a very good hospital.
ReplyDeletePerhaps, she have lost the pregnancy. How did she lost this pregnancy? Maybe she do engage in "hard " with her DH. Thrusting the dick very deep inside the toto during pregnancy can cause damage the embryo.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to her.
Toto.
DeleteJeez. I hate that word
"She have lost"
Delete"How did she lost"?
Olodo!
See English sentence oooooo.ur comment is enough to cause and round of bleeding. Kilode make una dey preview wetin una dey write before posting
DeleteThe height of your stupidity is legendary and makes my jaw drop. Adonbelieveit! Thrusting the dick inside toto.... Am out! I have no words for you. On a second thought, are u a fifteen year old? If u are, I forgive you!
DeleteWhat's this one saying? She won't loose it in JESUS name. JESUS please fix it!
DeleteRotflmao @annon16:15 Jesu oo..looool. U killed it.
DeleteIn her last test, the doctor is being the doctor he is. She may have lost the pregnancy but he don't want her to feel sad. Hence, he is using the "diplomatic" term, we don't see anything. I orderwords, he did not see any pregnancy in the scan.
ReplyDeleteI just can't comprehend what u typed up there. Poster pls go to another hospital.
DeleteI am going through the same thing right now. Seven weeks pregnant and bleeding brown blood for four days now. I had have my full on pregnancy symptoms. Had a miscarriage in Feb.
ReplyDeleteDid you go to the hospital?
DeleteYou need to rest @anon 12:27, if you work, you should consider taking time off, if possible, leave that job, it happened to me, the first time, I was in and out of the hospital and going to work, I eventually lost the baby, when I realised I was pregnant the second time, I sharply resigned, I didn't tell anyone the reason, the only time I shed brown blood in that pregnancy was when I was very hungry. I hope this makes sense and I wish you well.
DeleteIt's well with u dear.
DeleteIts residue of past menstruations. You will be fine. Same thing happened to me. Im 11 weeks gone now no more blood.
DeleteSpotting in pregnancy (brown blood) means your progesterone is low. Go buy cyclogest pessaries and insert 400mg into your vjay.
DeleteTo the OP, the first child died of strangulation.... Was she not offered CS? she probably had a miscarriage already. She should go to a good hospital to get checked.
Thanks guys. I feel a little better now. Anon 15:16, I think I ll go with your advice coz I still go to work despite my condition. And I started bleeding during this fasting period. Could it be as a result of hunger? Hmm.
DeleteI will ask my Doc for the cyclogest prescription. Thanks.
Yes Irene. The Doc said I should be on bed rest.

It seems the scan showed the gestational sac but she should rest and minimise heavy duties or sex and go back for scan in the next two weeks and hopefully a fetal beat would be heard. Dont panic cos Oluwa is ya helper.

It's good she is constantly checked by doctors, but from experience, she may have fibroids which must have grown a lot. Fibroids cause a lot of bleeding. I bled profusely during the first trimester(3months) of my pregnancy. During the second trimester,it stopped completely with no more bleeding till I gave birth. My bleeding was severe with huge clots. I am not exaggerating, but it got to a point I could fill up a pad with blood within 15minutes cos it poured like water. I thought I was going to loose my baby in both pregnancies, but it turned out I gave birth to healthy children. My fibroids during that period was about 10cm when checked in an ultrasound scan. They even had to keep doing ultrasounds throughout my pregnancy to be sure the baby was healthy. Just check to be sure there are no underlying problems, but trust me, it will stop completely in your second trimester.......@Bia Bia😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
ReplyDeleteYes there is something like weak pregnancy and scan can only detect 5-6weeks foetus but only pelvic scan can detect hers since it less than 5 weeks. My advice for her is to go and flush it so that she will not birth a deformed baby. But if she has fibroid then it can be the cause for the bleeding and cloth. But all the same go and see a good gynecologist for proper check up. It's well.
ReplyDeleteIt might be a non-viable pregnancy (I don't know). But the scan should be repeated and it should be followed up with a blood test-BHCG to make sure the pregnancy is still there.
ReplyDeleteYour friend need to be reassured everything is progressing normally. The scan is inconclusive/uncertain as it is, and that can make someone anxious. A pregnant woman BHCG trends up, so that is the best option right now.
Couldn't comprehend what I saw on Google
ReplyDeleteJst like sme SDK bloggers said, she may have lost d pregnancy, she shd exercise patience...
ReplyDeletePlacenta previa can also make a pregnant woman bleed. In my case I bled for 5 days shortly after 12 weeks. Baby was fine and at 20 weeks, d placenta moved up. I've heard of weak pregnancy getting strong and even failing in d end.
ReplyDeleteShe should see a qualified gynecologist. She may be having the symptoms of a molar pregnancy which is a type of cancer. It mimics the symptoms of pregnancy i.e. positive pregnancy test. But there is usually bleeding and the ultrasound does not show any baby.
ReplyDeleteYea there's sumting like weak positive and this doesn't mean that she has lost the baby. She needs proper medical assessment. If she's in Lagos she should try and locate Dr Orebanjo and do a Hi-tech scan at either Mecure, Qmed or Prisms Laboratory. I would have her in my prayers
ReplyDeleteWow, it's not a good sign when the blood is bright red. Do an ultrasound again.
ReplyDeleteHer HCG will still be high even if she lost the baby untill after few weeks
ReplyDeleteOver to doctors in the house
ReplyDeletePregnancy test can still be positive if done immediately after an incomplete abortion, and a scan becomes conclusive by d 8th week of gestation.. So if she is still bleeding it's either she has an incomplete abortion or she has a fibroid. But either way a scan should pick if it is either of them. The best thing is for her to repeat d scan and if it's an incomplete abortion she shud v an MVA done in other to avoid a septic abortion dear and most especially she shud see a gynecologist and not jus a GP.
ReplyDeleteWish I saw this earlier, poster pls tell ur friend to calm down it can be that she has lost the pregnancy or its still dere. I had a miscarriage March last year, by may I missed my period again I was scared and tried avoiding stress when I went for blood test it was weak positive I went for scan they said they could not detect anything that I should repeat test in 2 weeks out of fear fear I saw a gynae that said blah blah gave me plenty of drugs then I dint still see my menstruation ran another test and the foetus was alive but the man that did the scan said the drugs I was given will affect the baby.i had to flush it out. My dear lo and behold in between stress and all I missed my period again by September of the same year nd I made up my mind not to do anything because the blood test said weak positive again my hubby said I shuld ignore nd be normal I have a one month old healthy baby now. A times let calm down I know it's nt easy so u don't get wrong advice or medication nd also go see a very gud doctor not all this one's that assumes what is wrong with A is wrong with B.over sabi doctors. Flames
ReplyDeleteLMP of may 10 should make her to be exactly 7 weeks pregnant today during which time fetal node should be clearly seen either by tranvaginal or abdominal scan (in a good hand). At this gestational age, both serum and urine PT should also be positive. If she is bleeding significantly at this early GA and Ultrasound suggests empty uterus (assuming expertise is not in doubt), it appears she is going through an early pregnancy loss (miscarriage). A close differential diagnosis is an ectopic gestation (though it is not likely if she has profuse vaginal bleeding). In both cases, the doubling time of BhCG is either prolonged or there is progressively reduced level which may explain the so called weak positive result. However, If bleeding is not profuse, cervix not dilated and embryo is within the uterus and viable, then we are dealing with a threatened miscarriage (the only type that can be salvaged). My advice is go back to the hospital for proper assesment......so that a proper diagnosis can be made and proper management carried out. With the modern day obstetric, diagnosis of any of these conditions should not be in doubt. Good luck.
