Ewo!!!
The Presidency has directed the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, to refund over-payment of salaries running into millions of Naira.
The Registrar of the university, David Suowari, was also directed to refund cumulatively the sum of N130,692.71 per month in excess of his due salary.
The over-payments were said to have been discovered during the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission's inspection to the University on May 12, 2015 after which the VC and the Registrar were accused of appropriating certain allowances to themselves that were not approved by the government.
According to the commission, the Vice-Chancellor was being paid total emoluments of N1,970,476.76 monthly, whereas he should not earn more than N922,810.23 if he were paid furniture allowance en bloc earlier, or N1,043,176.79 if he were being paid furniture allowance.
In the case of the Registrar, the commission said the Registrar was being paid N130,692.71 in excess of his due salary of N502,580.25.
The commission also said the university disaggregated its staff salaries, against government’s policy of pay consolidation and directed the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar to refund the cumulative over-payments made to them.
But reacting to the the commission’s position, the VC who is in his fifth and final year of tenure, insists there was neither disaggregation of salaries nor overpayment of salaries.

Delete@ eka, pls read well, the inspection was carried out on the 12th of May while GMB was sworn in on the 29th. Meaning it was done before he came into power, so the issue of witch hunting does not arise. Stop the hate please.
DeleteCall it witch hunting......the most important thing is that the monies are being retrieved.
DeleteEka joy obi onugbu, the inspection was done even before GMB was sworn in. Ur bitterness will not let u read well. Am sure u didn't even read the write up at all!

ReplyDeleteOnPoint
1. The clueless president is the one that ruled for 6 yrs leaving Uni Abuja in "the state that it is in"
Delete2. The clueless president is the one who was in power when the "witch hunting" was done in May 12
If they don't recover the stolen money, how will they be able to provide those things u talked about?

The probe should have been done alphabetically..
ABU Zaria etc
Hope it won't stop with Otuoke University ooh.
Hmmmm
The commission's inspection was on 12th May, before he was sworn in. He didn't start the process, I hate that Nigerians are waiting for Buhari to fail, we all should note that his failure is ours too, #justsaying.

ReplyDeleteSlow motion president
We are still waiting for the change
Efe, u dey mind am?
DeleteThis is part of the change cos Uncle stagnation and retrogression(GEJ) would have justified the outrageous salaries if he was still president, bearing in mind that the excess payment occured in Mr Money Waster's regime.
DeleteA slow positive motion can never be compared to a fast backward motion or stagnation. Slow and steady does it. We will get there!
No mind Buhari the witch. The man is vindictive and stupid. Wat about the uni for other states? Just becos GEJ is from there
ReplyDeleteWhy didnt GEJ, d wizard do something about it in all the years he was in power? Why did the wizard wait for the witch to do it?

ReplyDeleteA man who was very comfortable in the diaspora goes home to serve his country and this is what he gets False accusation.! Prof Aluko had an arrangement per the same article quoted here for payments to maintain his retirement contributions in the States. Hence the so called overpayment. this is a witch hunt by people who feel aggrieved because of Aluko's stance against corruption and who probably wanted to "show him". I hope the man is able to clear his Good name. This is the thanks he gets for going to a village with no amenities to start a university from scratch not to mention the toll on his family whom he left behind. People keep saying come back, come back to Nigeria to put in your own quota and help develop the nation, but this what invariably happens, May God help Nigeria!

ReplyDeleteWrong PR move on fighting graft: picking on a university don/professionals, who by the way, are the least paid nor have access to other means of scheming the public purse. Why not prosecute Alakija, T.Y. Danjuma and a host of others in this league who appropriated the nation's oil blocks for private gains? How does the former Mrs. Obasanjo's tailor with barely a high school education (Alakija) become a billionaire overnight? We are talking billions...not small change by any means. That is where you need to focus on and leave hardworking, proven intellectuals who have earned their merit both nationally and internationally alone.
