Boy Smuggled Into Spain In A Suitcase Reunites With His Mother

An eight-year-old Ivorian boy discovered being smuggled into Spain from Morocco in a suitcase has been reunited with his mother.
Adou Ouattara was said to be in a "terrible state" when he was found last month in a bag without air vents at the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.

The boy's father was arrested for arranging his son to be smuggled, but is due to be released on bail.

The Moroccan woman who carried him in has also been detained.
The boy underwent DNA tests before the Spanish authorities would hand him over to his mother, who lives legally on Spain's Canary Islands.
"His mother cried. It's a very beautiful day," Maria Antonia Palomo, the Ceuta official in charge of juvenile affairs, told AFP.

The father, who also lives on the Canary Islands, reportedly tried to bring his son into Spain through legal means but his income fell short of the amount required by law.
He has said he did not know the plan to bring his son into Spain would involve a suitcase.

Officials have granted the boy a year to stay in Spain.

The incident highlights the often desperate, dangerous means migrants use to try to make it into Europe through Ceuta, and another Spanish enclave, Melilla.

Hmmm,if they have granted this boy stay it is a good thing but knowing Africans very well, they should go and buy more scanners.work just start!

    4. Like I said before, when his parents earlier sought permission for him to join them, they refused them o. So now the boy joined illegally, they were forced to now authorise his stay. Risky but good. That is what happens with most of this countries. When u apply legally and tell the truth, they'll not agree, that's why some people opt to enter illegally. This is just one lucky family. At least it ended in praise.

    2. Any senseless person that tries this again may just lose their child o. It was a very dangerous measure they took, and I think his parents should have been punished for endangering his life. Even though I am sympathetic of their situation, they shouldn't be patted on the back for it. So to lay a stern warning to others who may wish to adopt this risky method.

    1. Don't mind them. They were forming nonsense before until the desperate measure. It sorts of put their country in a bad light though, since the mother lives there legally and has a sustainable job. They had no reason to have disqualified her application ab-inito.

    1. After the one year be rest assured that he'll be granted indefinite stay afterwards. It's a process and the one year should be the first they grant him before he is naturalised. Or did u expect that they would give him their citizenship straightaway? Mba

  14. Honestly @anon I concur with you, i guess before the one tear visa expires they will put some things in place for him to know what to do concerning his permanent stay.
