APC Senators’ Swearing-in Ceremony

The Moment the new senate president, Bukola Saraki swore-in Senator Remi Tinubu was epic .....

In case you missed it, The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, yesterday, administered the oath of office and allegiance on Senator Remi Tinubu and 27 other (APC) senators who missed the oath taking during the inauguration of the chamber on Tuesday.

The third most powerful man in Nigeria right now....According to the constitution,IF for any reason at all the President is impeached, the senate president, the third most powerful man in Nigeria automatically becomes President.

The 28 senators, who are mainly members of the Senate Unity Forum, led by Senator Ahmed Lawan, mobilised themselves to the chamber as early as8.30am on Wednesday, waiting for the Senate President to formally swear them in as senators.

The senators, after the votes and proceedings of the previous legislative day were adopted, took turn to take their oaths by reading it out aloud and appending their signatures.

This looks like Senator Gbenga Ashafa my number one..lol

What a contrast...hair versus hairless..lol

According to Punch reportage; By protocol, each of the newly sworn-in senators were expected, after taking their oaths, to present a copy of their certificates of return to the Senate President and in turn, shake hands with him.

The protocol was duly followed by others, except Mrs. Tinubu, who refused to shake hands with Saraki but merely showed him her Certificate of Return and walked out on the Senate President.

She didnt give him her hand but she gave him her smile, that is enough abi?

  12. Na dem sabi jare. Her handshake amounts to nothing in the scheme of things. I trust this would not make Saraki shudder.. no one cares. If she likes she can denounce her senatorial slot and let another willing person take over. No one has time for pity party or whipping of sentiments in this era. You are either in or out. Is it their family inheritance?

Thank God Saraki is a sharp intelligent man, he cannot be bullied by anyone. Democracy is here to stay. Any aggrieved party can initiate a redress in court. Lawyers are having a busy season because of these politicians. Did somebody say that Jonathan is having a laugh? You bet.

Yes he's d 3rd most powerful man in d country, but if for any reason d president is impeached,d vice takes over and not d senate president. The senate president only takes over if there misdemeanour surrounding d whole brouhaha and d vice isn't considered fit to take over.

But then again,i like the drama that would in the long run ensue...the senate just got more interesting

  25. Some people are so ignorant sha!! Alot of women aren't comfortable shaking men especially muslim women i don't shake either (don't know where those hands have been). You people are taking this handshake thing too far! am sure Saraki and Oluremi Tinubu will joke about this new conspiracy theory the media has come up with. Think about it, in the real sphere of things the handshake doesn't matter!

  26. I have maintained that Saraki is an ambitious, calculating and manipulative individual and subservient to no one. This I believe Apc should be aware o; Saraki will one day make a play for the presidency as he has always been interested and is also smart to know that he cannot get it through an election but as senate president... go figure.
At this rate, anything saraki wants Saraki gets. Its just a matter of when IMHO

  29. Lawan who actually vied for the office against Saraki, shook hands with his opponent. It doesn’t mean he has endorsed him and I’m sure he will still explore means to oust him if possible.

When Tambuwal defected to APC and retained speakership, these same APC members said there was nothing wrong with a member from the minority party leading the House. Why was it ok when it they did it and now wrong because someone else has done so??? Real double standards!!!

Who exactly was disgraced? The lady who behaved like a spoilt, immature child or the man who extended his hand as is required during the process he was presiding over?. That’s the problem with women in politics : overly emotional

  30. Why are u making mountain out of a molehill?if she decides not to shake him its no big deal at least she has done what is required of her.

  31. Stella , please clarify your statement, if the president is impeached, or incapacitated, should it not be the VP that takes over as #2 in line to the office before the #3 in line?

  34. anty stellz of life, u have given me patriotic homework today bcos of ur statement. its not true na, how can d senate president take over from the president when the VP is there? so, i rumaged thru the 1999 constitution to back up my claims nd in section 146, it stated thus:

    (1) The Vice-President shall hold the office of President if the office of President becomes vacant by reason of death or resignation, impeachment, permanent incapacity or the removal of the President from office for any other reason in accordance with section 143 of this Constitution.
    (2) Where any vacancy occurs in the circumstances mentioned in subsection (1) of this section during a period when the office of Vice-President is also vacant, the President of the Senate shall hold the office of President for a period of not more than three months, during which there shall be an election of a new President, who shall hold office for the unexpired term of office of the last holder of the office.

    (3) Where the office of Vice-President becomes vacant:-

    (a) by reason of death or resignation, impeachment, permanent incapacity or removal in accordance with section 143 or 144 of this Constitution;
    (b) by his assumption of the office of President in accordance with subsection (1) of this section; or

    (c) for any other reason,

the President shall nominate and, with the approval of each House of the National Assembly, appoint a new Vice-President.

  36. Classic machavellian move by Saraki and his PDP "cronies", seductively crafty! LOL! I haven't stopped laughing since the surprising turn of events. It goes to show that people are at their weakest just after a victorious encounter. While basking in jubilation and the confidence of  winners, the last thing on their  minds is a counter-attack. So if and when it happens, they are almost always caught off guards. This will surely teach people never to take things for granted, not even the minutest detail. Like the saying goes, "the devil is in the details". Never allow your confidence cause you to underestimate the opposition. Defeat can be very motivating especially when the vanquished has tasted power.

As for Senator Remi's refusal to shake hands with the new Senator, I think that was very unprofessional and petty. When she was the 1st lady of Lagos State, she shook hands with both sexes and it's all captured in video clips so the religious excuse is rather porous, besides, she's supposed to be a christian. Perhaps she has been feeling oppressed by the way the new administration appears to keep sidetracking her hubby. Obviously, they were expecting much more for the "role" they played in making APC the ruling party, so this unpleasant surprise was just one straw too many for the already strained Camel's back. ‎Oh well!...who knows how one would react under such circumstances? Unfortunately, her actions were captured by the videographers and it is the "hot clip" of the day, probably the week as well. ‎
