Workers of Daar Communications Plc, operator of African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM Radio, on Wednesday shut down all broadcasting activities at the Benin studio in protest over unpaid salaries.
The protesting workers were said to have blocked the main entrance to the station located along the Benin/Lagos bypass.
A detachment of anti-riot policemen were however called by the management of the station to forestall any break down of law.
It was gathered that the protesting workers put at 50 of AIT and Ray Power, were owed salaries salaries spanning between 12 and 17 months.
One of the protesting workers who did not want his name in print for personal reasons, said newly employed staff of AIT were being owed 12 months while old staff were yet to be paid salaries between 13 months and staff of the Raypower FM, the Radio arm of the broadcast outfit were owed 17 months.
“The stations generate millions of naira on a daily basis, so there is no reason why we should not be paid our salaries. They have no excuse not to pay us our money. It is share wickedness and man’s inhumanity to his fellow man. We have families to care for and children to pay their school fees. Many of our children have stopped going to school. But their own attend schools abroad.
“Look at where our station is located, in another village so far away from Benin City. You have to chatter a taxi carb for not less than N500.00 to get there if you miss the staff bus. And not even every cab driver will agree to go there because of the wrong location of the station, yet, they expect us to be there everyday, whether you have anything to do or not,” the source told P.M. NEWS on phone.
Chairman of the organization, Raymond Dokpesi (Jnr) was said to have spoken to the protesters on phone. He allegedly appealed for calm, assuring them that the management will within one week do everything possible to pay parts of the salary arrears.
He however allegedly threatened to pay-off any of the staff that decided to resign from the establishment.

My mum bought shares from AIT 10 years ago, suddenly the shares crashed !! Oh she wept because she just Retired from civil service . So that was her little investment from her gratuity.
ReplyDeleteNo peace for the wicked !!! You all should continue . They will be doing scam in the name of shares . There's one other bank that closed down after selling all her shares to the public . ReplyDeleteForming employer of labour and not paying them. Heard its only the news casters and the Kaakaki crew that are paid on time.
What happened to all the money collected for daar sat? Mschew.
High chief kor,
Low servant ni
Very wicked lots , yet they were busy having presidential dinner and send off ,could not use the money to pay salaries , can't imagine the hardship this would have done to people's children , leaving homes hungry and helpless .
ReplyDeleteBet you Raymond Jnr has never gone a day without food, and Snr cannot understand since it's all those small girls heis spending on . The God these people serve will surely deal with them , in one way or the other.
Dokpesi.
ReplyDeleteNot like he does not have the money to pay, but instead they prefer to spend it on girls, not even their families. With all the money he made selling his soul during the last campaign, ahh. He is greedy. And these ones have been going to work like this for the past how many months. They try sef.
ReplyDeleteThis is a disgrace.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to all the billions he collected from PDP And Jonathan during the last election?
Buy why would someone work for 14 months without pay? How were they coping?
This Dokpesi is really wicked.
I thought that he sold off his right of ownership a while back? Or am I mistaking? At any rate, they made a lot of money during the pre election campaigns na, so why owe ur staff? You get money from different advertorials and event coverage, why deprive them of their daily bread? Things like this make u lose the respect people have for u in the society. Dokpesi is always in the news for owing this and that. Really bad oh. And you'll wear agbada and be attending functions with a big grin on ur face. Huh
ReplyDeleteAaahhhaa! A year and half. How do they expect them to survive
ReplyDeleteThis is soo true Dokpesi is just too stingy, most big men in abj hv ds kinda character too , dey hv d money to lavish outside yet lv dier workers to die in hunger
ReplyDeleteI remember vividly dt he hosted d former President Jonathan to a dinner before he vacated the office. He should have used the money spent to pay the workers.
ReplyDeleteI think ait is broke
ReplyDeletedokpesi sabi owe.i never see dis kind human being
ReplyDeleteHmmm
ReplyDeleteAnd u'll be surprised dt he sends little gals on vacation in Dubai plus holidaying in exotic places...I hate employers who owe dia workers...17 months is too much abeg...Not in dis country wia there are atleast 7 mouths or more to feed in some homes...kai,oriegwu ooo
ReplyDeleteDokpesi isn't stingy. he's very generous to women and his kids. plus he lives a jet set lifestyle but doesn't care a jot about his workers. Omashe
ReplyDeleteToo many people with dead consciences. That is why love your neighbour as you love yourself is the greatest law, bc when everyone does, life will be much easier
ReplyDeleteMy problem is with the workers, why continue? 17months is a long time. The workers should have done this protest after 3months of being owed. Now, it's just too late,he will never pay them all their arrears so it's best they look for jobs elsewhere instead of working for free.
ReplyDeleteGod gorbid a time I will work without pay. The funny thing about 9ja employers be say, em go dey shout; "employees are not loyal". Abeg how dem wan take dey loyal?
ReplyDeleteAIT can owe!! Jezz. Anyways did you say pple wld invest in AIT?? how would anyone in their right senses invest in them? Unless you dont have a clue.
