Adamawa Youth Corps Members And The Fear Of Insecurity.

..''To serve with heart and might..''

But when happens when the heart is pounding from fear and might has
deserted the muscles?

''Good morning Stella, please I want you to help us raise awareness to the government and public. I'm a Corps member deployed to Adamawa state but currently camping in Taraba state now (stream 2).

We are actually camping in Taraba because of insecurity in Adamawa and as we read in the news yesterday, Yola was attacked, meaning the state as a whole is not safe.

The NYSC officials here announced that they will only grant redeployment based on just Marriage and health. Please we are not happy about this, they are trying to put our lives at stake here. Please NYSC  shouldn't force us to stay, our parents are scared for our lives even here in Taraba.

Please they should grant us redeployment based on insecurity. We are all willing and ready to serve our father land but not in an insecure state. We are currently in camp now and have more than two weeks to stay, please we want to be heard.''

I am sorry to say what i have to say but NYSC has lost its meaning and should be suspended or scrapped...especially now that there is insecurity in some areas...The orientation camps especially should be erased totally and these students should be sent directly to their place of primary assignment which is how it should be.
I am not praying for anything but i hope that these orientation camps are not marked out as target by those who have evil minds.
What do you say?

Should the NYSC as a whole be scrapped or just the orientation camp ?

  2. The programme has lost its focus. NYSC should be scrapped. I did not see anything good on this. Only complaint.

Maiduguri is now under the mercy of bokoharam. the governor himself is not even strong to handle the derogatory security situations.

My dear Corpers please pray that Jesus will protect and keep you all.
Buhari has not told his people he is fully in charge. so many things going wrong in this Maiduguri.

  3. Nysc as a whole should be scrapped, gowons idea was to create employments for youths in their area of study after years in university, but the purpose has been defeated as people from every discipline have been forced to teach, I don't know how that makes any sense at all. Then after the one year of doing nothing associated to your course of study u are forces to start job hunting afresh.

  4. Scrapped!

Even though I kinda enjoyed my own service, I think the real reason for NYSC has been forgotten. So make we rest abeg.

  5. Corpers shld serve @ their home state biko or within d geogrophical zones, atleast they can't interact n comminicate easily if need be

  6. It shld be scrapped. The govt is not doing much to safe guard the lives of the corp member. Imagine to a place with fear? How do they concentrate and give their best? My neighbour is always calling the child that was posted to the north like evry hour just to make sure she is fine.

  7. Adamawa, Yobe and Borno Corp members are usually moved to other states. While I served in Kaduna, we had most of them moved over to join us. So my dear, calm ur fears. Apply for relocation based on insecurity. They will approve it and even if they dont, be rest assured you WONT be posted to any town in Adamawa state.
    *Shalom

  13. Redeploy. NYSC shouldn't send any corps member to Adamawa, Yobe n Borno till after 2019.

  14. Right from the time of John the baptist nai I don dey talk say make dem scrap NYSC..it has long lost its glory..for starters, what do you gain during your whole service year??especially in the orientation camps?waste of one year of my life..cos I no really see wetin I learn or gain..on top that, after NYSC,u begin job hunting and one hopeless employer go dey ask of many years of experience. They don't even count the service year as one year of experience..so where I go start from..my suggestion is after graduation, there should be an empowerment scheme for fresh graduates,to learn different skills or crafts (cos I no really know wetin we dey learn for school for 4 years plus)..then after the scheme, loans should be given to them to start up something..from there they'll be able to empower other people (correct employment opportunity). Person go dey waste away dey do left right left right for mumu camp, dey run up and down at the sound of the bigle (whatever it is called),dey queue up for food like prisoners, dey chop rubbish ,then one sad principal go pour all her frustrations on top ur head, all in the name of service..Abegiii..it should be scraped

  15. Why are students still being sent to distressed areas?

It shouldn't be scrapped yet, until I've served.

  17. The whole nysc thing should be scrapped. Rather the GES should take over where people actually work and learn more of what they studied in school. These days corpers are turned to messengers as they are sent to buy food, recharge card etc.
Also, the amount of money spent to cater 4 the corpers like allowance, uniform, feeding, accomodation should be given to each graduate to use to start a business. Shikena. Thats the onky meaningful thing that can be done because other than insecurity, these corpers dont really learn anything in their ppa.

  18. It should be scrapped entirely! I don't see the point!

  19. It shuld nt b scrapped.....dey shuld reform it.n insecurity shuld also b considered amond oda reason(s) 4 redeployment........i rily luv d fact dat dere s honour in dat uniform,d respect it brings s priceless.i don't see it as waste of time,i see it as an additional experience.al tinz has itz own downside

  20. It should totally be scrapped jor. Government does little or nothing to protect the poor students.

  21. Nysc should be scrapped, if insecurity is still the order of the day.
I'm so pissed with the fact that govt still sends corpers to these troubled zones, do they want them killed?
A beg, the parents of these corpers should form a body and protest against it o.
The appropriate civil liberty organisations should mobilise against this horrid situation.

  22. Collect the redeployment form and fill it. Many people lie on health grounds and are redeployed. No need to be scared, na so them talk for sokoto too.
I've always said that this scheme has lost meaning and should be scrapped. In one of the schools in Sokoto, corps members were attacked in late April and all the principal could tell them is "defend yourselves" seriously?!? The LI had to withdraw all serving corps members there and repost them. Imagine that!
Graduates with no prior teaching experience are forced to teach most times subjects outside their course of study with little or no motivation and we want the standard of education to go up?? So many issues mhen

  23. NYSC is just a waste of time!
Buhari should focus on how to move this country forward instead of jumping from one country to another.Change my ass!

  24. Stella, I totally disagree with you on this one,
    1. If you scrap NYSC, more than 2,000 staff will be laid off.
    2. The essence of NYSC and possible employment opportunities some youths will be lost too.

    Possible solutions
    1. Overhauling of the system for proper management
    2. Increase monthly allowance

    My opinion
    1. Orientation camp should be articulated with military drills, good camping facilities.
    2. Increase the camping duration to 4 weeks (two weeks dedicated to entrepreneurship training)
    3. Each Corp members should be given at least a grant of #400,000 to establish something immediately after the camp at choice state.
No Extra PPA work, no extra 11months of unnecessary work.

    1. Thank you very much dear..
I was looking for a comment like this!

Most people serving depend on that N19,800 allowance desperately.

I have seen graduates even earning lower than what the government pay corpers.

Once it is scrapped,a lot of corp members will be stranded money-wise... Most of them become breadwinners even before completion of NYSC!

Now you say scrap it,as soon as you enter the labour market, you begin to wish you can go back and serve again... Wonder why you have old corpers coming back as fake corpers to serve again???

I wish the whole system will be looked into seriously...Better amenities, avoidance of terrorist areas, salary increment, employment opportunities for corp members immediately after serving etc.

  25. Scrap it totally. Its just a conduit 4 sm ppl to steal money as everything is highly inflated

    ReplyDelete
  26. it should be scrapped. nysc is jus anoda way of looting money from d govt by dose incharge while putting graduates at high risks. lives have been lost, corpers are missing, some are conditioned to sleep with top official for one reason or d oda. n if u calculated well you wil realize dat d allawee doesn't even add cos at d end of d day u go spend from ur personal pocket in transportation, cds, feeding and oda basic needs. its indeed a waste of time and should be scrapped
