A Zenith Bank official at the scene said,
“One of them entered and when he saw about N20m that we had arranged to put inside our ATMs, he shouted, ‘Area, Zico see money. See money wey we dey look for.’ He started dancing.
Led by a young lady said to be under 20, a group of robbers, numbering about 16 invaded two banks, located directly opposite the Ipakodo Police Division, at about 9am Wednesday morning.
Shattering down the rotor doors of the two banks with dynamite, they forcefully gained entrance, ordering members of staff and their customers to lie down.
They were also said to have opened fire at the police station to scare the officers, after which they proceeded with their operation.
At Zenith Bank branch in Ebute-Ipakodo in Ikorodu, Lagos, the robbers made away with about N20m said to have been arranged for loading into the ATM and also about N60m from the strong room that was ready to be taken away by a bullion van that morning.
A Zenith Bank official at the scene said,
“One of them entered and when he saw about N20m that we had arranged to put inside our ATMs, he shouted, ‘Area, Zico see money. See money wey we dey look for.’ He started dancing.
“When the lady opened the strong room, the robber that shouted in the ATM room exclaimed again, ‘Eheeeee, Area, Zico give me bags! Give me bags. Come and see money wey we dey look for.
“When the lady opened the strong room, the robber that shouted in the ATM room exclaimed again, ‘Eheeeee, Area, Zico give me bags! Give me bags. Come and see money wey we dey look for.
They packed everything in the strong room; more than N60m. We were expecting a bullion van to move the money before the incident happened.”
First Bank branch of the area was not spared either.
Satisfied with their bounty, the gunmen stormed out and challenged policemen, whose station is directly opposite the First Bank branch, to confront them.
No policeman came around, even as the robbers set three Sports Utility Vehicles which they drove to the banks, on fire, after removing their number plates.
According to an eyewitness, The policemen hid at the back of Ipakodo Grammar School for more than one hour, even the military officers were said to have taken cover.
Four persons were injured by the robbers who fled through the jetty in the area. Some hit by stray bullets and others by shattered glasses.
The head of security, Ipakodo Community Development Association, Femi Awode, said he called two police officers on the phone to no avail.
However, about 20 mins after the robbers had fled, security operatives, comprising policemen and soldiers flooded the scene in about 10 pickups, two armoured tanks and one OP MESA pickup van.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, who visited the scene of the incident along with some military officers, said the command would get the robbers.
He said, “I am here with other service chiefs to have a joint coordinated approach to this incident. We are very positive that we are going to get to the root of the matter. Just give us time.
“The timing and conduct of the men (police officers) are also going into investigation. We are checking the operation of these jetties and the vulnerability of our waterways. Nobody died.”
According to the command’s spokesperson DSP Kenneth Nwosu, “The command will reward anybody with useful information towards the arrest of the bank robbers with N5m."

Hmmm,I am sorry to say but it looks from the writeup as if the robbers had insider tip on when the money would be ready to leave.they arrived just at the nick of time..that is suspicious. If they want to catch these thieves before the money is finished they should start investigations from ''inside''
What a man can do...............
ReplyDeleteAs in ehn!
DeleteGod help us with this kind of policemen that we hav. Coming aftr everything has happened. Odiegwu!
Delete@Sylvonce will u blame d police men. When they are not well equipped. It sure looks like an inside job. 80mil? Nah wah. They will now come and be oppressing people that have been hustling honest jobs we won't know it is stolen money. Anyway thank God no life was lost.
DeleteOf course. They had an insider tip. I couldn't help but laugh at the "see money" exclamation. Poverty na bastard. Hope they had CCTv in operation.
DeleteNawa oooo! Morning sdk
ReplyDeleteExactly.... dey shud investigate very well... Na rat wey dey inside house dey go tel d ones wey dey outside say food dey...

DeleteAnon 10:53 are u ok? You don chop this morning?
DeleteApart from the talk of insider job, they should also confirm the missing amount now. Make one sharp bank manager no go use this opportunity thief money by claiming a total of 70million stolen when in actual fact maybe only 10million was stolen, he will now pocket the rest.
DeleteSee money! See money wey we dey look for. Sorry! Alloy see money wey I dey look for.
ReplyDeleteYour comment will be visible after approval
A young girl? Wow! Then I believe it's an inside job too they should investigate thoroughly. The Nigerian police force is just like a waste of money. When they see gobe dem no dey wait but when invited for 2fighting you go see them quoting law. This is a disgrace on them and to think the banks were opposite a police station na wa sha
ReplyDeleteAs in all the officers in that station from the DPO down should be jailed. But the sound of those gunshots was enough to make a grown man faint. Where on earth did 20 year olds get the money for the kind of ammunition they used. Na real wah for my country.
DeleteWell planned based on iinformation!
ReplyDeleteThis was how it happened in my area too sometime ago. Come and see shooting that day, they shot sporadically and alot of people died, some lost their legs...After some weeks the thieves were later caught and they revealed that the branch manager was the one that sent them.
ReplyDeleteYou see these ones too will be caught, they always get caught at the long run.
Sons and daughter of satan!
na u type dis flawless grammar?
DeleteNawa oh

i totally agree with stella.na inside rat dey call outside one say fish don land. good morning stella and bvs.have a fulfilling day ahead. raining cats n dogs in ph.ciao pipo
ReplyDeleteThere's alws an insider, some bankers are informants, thank goodness nobody died.
ReplyDeleteNobody in the world robs a bank without insider knowledge.
ReplyDeleteVery true. It'll be hard to pick a bank randomly to rub above the counter. They aim for the strong room, which needs detailed information to enter and to unlock the codes. Always an inside tip to get that far
DeleteStells who will investigate? This na naija o. They will take statements and that will be all
ReplyDeleteWow.such smooth operation.
ReplyDeleteThank God no one died.
And no police came out abi?
Stella or maybe its a scorned ex banker.
But i dey like clean clear operations sha.is it just me?
lol.. baby u badt.
DeleteI disagree totally
DeleteCan't be ex scorned banker
This is a clean inside job
Even if the ex banker is involved then someone inside still giving him info and so on
That one don go be dat
Police can't deny knowing this robbers
They know them wella
If they wanna fish them out they will
Until then .................
This is what happened when u have a rotten system
Politiricians re stealing with pen just sitting down in airconditioned rooms
Youth4 choosed the Hard way
Though not the only way!
Hard work pays
And there is always joy and satisfaction enjoying it
Hmmmmm!!
So sad!!

ReplyDeleteOmo mhen, yesterday was bloody o. You need to see the way GTBank and the others stepped up their security within few minutes of the robbery. Thank God nobody died but the shock no be here o.
ReplyDeleteSome people are going to lose their jobs unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteExpecting bullion van to come and evacuate as early as 8am means they closed above the branch limit. I hope they have their superior approval. So na insurance go lose.
Am tempted to agree with Stella because robbers hardly attack early in the morning unless there is information that the branch slept with lots of cash.
nice comment @gbogbo
DeleteGbogbo Bigz Girlz na banker na. Its very obvious. Insurance should get ready to refund.... They loose at the end of the day and not the banks.
DeleteInsurance will be responsible for only the legal limit allowed. Any excess will be borne by the bank.
DeleteOf course there is always an insider.... d wan wey happen for Lekki, we hear say dem catch d robbers but na so d story take die..... some pple no go go hell fire talk more heaven cos dis kinda thing de vex even Satan sef.... 80 million naira? I faint!
ReplyDeletewhere dem go go ma?
Deletedem go just dey wander the earth as akudaiya abi?
DeleteThey also have insider info. Anyways, did you hear that the girl(leader) had a snake tied round her waist. See jazz level.
ReplyDeleteAgain, the police can't fight people that will share the loot with them.
Chai!
Deletewow!!!
DeleteThat's someone daughter and an innocent man will marry her one day! God help us!
DeleteThere is a mole in the banks.....
ReplyDeleteAnd the security men arrived 20 minutes after the robbers have left..... as usual
Could they be militants, where did they get dynamites? Hmmmmmm 80million in calculation. We are on our own in this country, only God can save us
ReplyDeleteStella, there is nothing to be sorry about....the guy the caught at UBA said the same thing, that no robbery can be successful without inside info.....una do bankers...lol
ReplyDeleteThere is always an insider in cases like this. So sorry for injured persons and I pray the culprits are brought to book. This is the second case this year I think, we need security on our water ways. Imagine it took place beside a police station such boldness because we our police personals are sissyssss. What a shame!
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't understand is how they didn't go and lay a siege for them on all ends of the water way?? They heard the robbers made for the jetty, so they should have known they would escape through the water, why didn't they quickly correspond with officers at the other side to wait for them? Abi would they have dived under the water and not come out? If they know where all the sides of the water ends, they should have blocked them na... anyway what do I know
DeleteSpot on, Stella!
ReplyDeleteI'm certain the stolen money was not up to that.
Area,Zico See Money!!!
ReplyDeleteOMG,this bank is not far from my house...May these robbers be caught and face firing squad. And yes I second what stella said, there is more to this robbery.jeezzzzzz
ReplyDeleteSee as boby dey sweet u. Ode!
DeleteBank robbery that are successful are aways from inside tips
ReplyDeleteWhat a man can do it even better. Women are more humane. Perhaps, that was the reason no one was murdered during the operation.
ReplyDeleteThe police officers shld not be left out in the investigations too
ReplyDeleteThe boy that shouted area see money o, abeg nothing do u o cos I no blame u for d way u marvel wen u saw d money cos money sef get e own spirit.!
lmao.. money spirit strong.
DeleteBefore nko!!...
ReplyDeleteAn insider gave them information....some of these bankers are thieves...
The funniest part of it all is how the police men hide when the robbery was going on...
Lmao...
The only thing they are good at is how to intimidate innocent people...
Didn't Fashola said that it was Goodluck that caused the previous robbery incident in Lekki....
They should come and explain this one...
It's only God that protect us in this country...no security!!...
EXACTLY
ReplyDeleteZico see money...
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha
These armed robbers gat no chill.
Omg!!!
ReplyDeleteWeak system
Weak police
Now I wish I knew ziko
Ziko don hammer....
Robbing a bank Na beans?
I'm happy for them.
lmao... u wish u knew ziko... u badt
DeleteHahahahaha this short Amaka girl don kolo finish
DeleteSame here. Stalking all the Ziko's I know already to know which. Lmao
DeleteGo and look for Zico then come back and write your own Chronicle. Ole
DeleteYes @stella u just took d word out of my mouth. Dey re dia based on information from within. Even the police ppl, where were dia armored vehicles when d robbery was going on? It's a vell coordinated n well planned operation.
ReplyDeleteThank God no life was lost
ReplyDeleteSo the police went to hide
n came out after the robbers left?
Well I dont blame them
Our Nigerian police are ill equipped
With their misery salary so who wan die?
If u think we have security in this country,
Then u must be hallucinating.
Hahaha I find d exclamation funny @see money wey we don dey find. So in all we are to believe they made away with about 80million, Lol na so!!!. D manager mustav collected bout 10million and den blamed it on d robbers cos truth be told, wen robberies happen, these banks take advantage of looting and den pinning it on d robbers, saying in all,dey made away wv this and they made away with that. So zenith banks puts up to 20m in their atm!!! Who wouldav known and yet all it takes is just a lil queue and d atm tells u it's unable to dispense catch. Still dnt belive d story above,@least some of it. How can an atm in ikorodu of all places be loaded with 20m just like that @a go.
ReplyDeleteThere definitely is an insider, robbers dnt just go robbing banks without pre information.
Y do i have ds feeling dt d narrator exaggerated a little bit,not just on d money bt also on d scene dt played out. Na dem sabi sha!!!
5m for any1 dt has an info on d suspects whereabouts!!! Hahaha dt's laughable,no be naija we dey again??? Be rest assured u would be arrested as well cos ud be asked how come u knew bout dia whereabout. 5million!!! Yea right!
Police would have linked them up to collect their share. Find them out indeed! They'll weigh their options and resort to getting a percentage of the money. As everywhere take dry so, no police go wan do over sabi loyalty. Eheh
DeleteThis is so terrible! When I read the part that d police hid behind a school I laughed. Nigeria security force is just a joke. And those thieves will be killed one day. Their day of reckoning will come.
ReplyDeleteStella forget insider work, you think these guys are stupid, some of them are graduates, they must have planned well for the operation.
ReplyDeleteBullion van comes for money either in the morning or evening, you really don't need any one to tell you that.
Am so sad at the reinforcement efforts of the police and military, came too late.
Solution:
- I believe banking streets should have enough surveillance cameras controlled by the police state command
- Quick Tactical Teams made up police reinforced by military
-Take off redundant police officer at various banks
- Staff training on security
- funded by the Banks
You've spoken well Stella, the informal is an insider and dats d only way dey can get those robbers apprehended
ReplyDeleteI don't know why I am happy for the robbers..lmao!
ReplyDeleteha Zizzy! stelka ur bvs are bad abeg.. lmao
DeleteAyam Telling u,d story and d armed robbers cracked me up...
DeleteArea see money.....LMAO
Lol hope u don't know Zico?
DeleteWhere is dis country moving to now.ha robbery opposite police station.
ReplyDeleteI don't fault the nigerian police for not coming out to stop the robbers cos the bank robbers probably had more sophisticated guns, but where i will fault them is when they don't catch the theives. The banks are close to my family house.
ReplyDeleteHian, things are happening. A female *hmnnnn*
ReplyDeleteIt's is only someone or people that know the inner workings of a place that can rob it. This was definitely organized by an insider. When it isn't a movie scene, haba.
ReplyDeleteOfcourse people robbers cant rob a bank without inside info. However the robber that danced upon sighting cash must be a fool. Wetin e expect tobfind for bank, cowries?
ReplyDeleteAs for the police.... words fail me. Now that GMB has ordered military men out of the nations highways I only hope that highbrobberies dont return in full force. Any where you have police in ffull contro, anarchy reigns supreme.
This is serious ooo, thank God no life was lost. I pray that they will be caught.
ReplyDeleteIt's is only someone or people that know the inner workings of a place that can rob it. This was definitely organized by an insider. When it isn't a movie scene, haba.
ReplyDeleteNigeria police is a mess
ReplyDeleteWith the camera they can track the woman even the zico
The job might be from inside
Area hahahaha
Lazy police men na too intimidate innocent pple...
ReplyDeleteYou don't need to give the advice STella. Banks park all staff to the station in successful armed robbery attack cases. They will drill them like .... Then God forbid you went late to work that day or you were on leave, the person will be no one suspect.
ReplyDeleteThis surely reminds me of the armed robbery incident witnessed (from a safe distance) by my mother and i in 2012.
ReplyDeleteAbeg make nobody blame the Police for hiding o, no be hunting dane gun them go take challenge powerfully armed robbers.
STORIES @ ALIFEDIARY
Dem don hammer
ReplyDeleteNo bank robbery without inside info ,so much money in a bank thought they run cashless society in nigeria now,60 m in the vault ,abeg zenith bank i no wan hear story oh
ReplyDeleteDeres no successful bank robery without an inside, after much interogation dey ll catch dem,it may take tym but dey ll,I dnt blame dos police men,if dey die in d process, deres no conpensation 2 d family, even if,d stress nd process involve ehn den go vex leave d moni sef, under 3month d family ll b ask 2 vacate d barracks,so wat do u expect?.
ReplyDeleteArea Zicco, see money!!! this got me lol
ReplyDelete@Besmeraldboutique, mumu wey you be, if your father works in that particular bank, you will tell them to part him to police station and torture him for what he does not know about? and its the same Police that went into hiding during the incident that will torture him abi! and the same police that likely knows about the crime and gets a share right?, whether na insider abi no be insider, time will tell, with all una speculations, THINK BEFORE YOU TALK PLEASEEEEEE!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteInside info.... speaking as an ex banker... when they commit fraud they organize robbers because they cant set the place on fire! its a regulation that all vaults must be fire proof.... catch the HOP,Funds Transfer and Branch Manager
ReplyDelete
