Zamfara State To Spend N40M On Mass Wedding

The Zamfara State Government has laid aside N40 million for the facilitation of a mass wedding for over 200 less privileged people.

The Chairman of the Zamfara State Hisbah Commission, Dr Atiku Zawiyya, revealed in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday, Wednesday April 15 in Gusau.

He noted that such action was in line with the tenets of Islam and the promotion of the Shari’a.

Zawiyya explained that the State Government is only supporting the initiative, organised by the Association of Widows and Divorcees in the state, with the said sum of money, to help in its effort to reduce immorality in society.

He further called on wealthy individuals to also assist the activities of the association.

The secretary of the association, Malam Sani Usman, said the N40M would be used in sponsoring the marriages of more than 200 widows, divorcees, less-privileged and orphans.

Usman recalled that no fewer than 200 couples had benefited from the programme in the past three years when it started.

  9. I don't get it when the state takes up the bill in a wedding. Well, that's nice though but i want to know, is it a tradition or a poverty alleviation program?

  11. There are many things the ignorant ones don't know.Let us take a look at it this way, u go to a parent that u want to marry their daughter righteously, she says,no problem and give u a very long list for them to release their daughter to as ur wife.ok.And here is a humble and poor man who can't afford this unnecessary requirements. And anoda guy out there sees this lady and talk to her,she accepts the man proposal and he impregnates her without going to any parent or body for approval. That same parent who gave the first man a list he cud not afford will now have to invite or call the man responsible for their daughter pregnancy.Which one is more honouring? Here u are, with a govt promoting mass marriage, u are complaining. What else do u want from govt?If govt didn't help people, we will complain, now they are,u are still talking. And most of u complaining here are fornicators and sex freaks who have refused to marry bcoz for stupid and sinful reasons. In the Catholic churches, don't we have such thing like mass wedding? Somebody shud answer NO,then I will give u names of catholic churches in lagos here that promote such gud thing. Is it a must u comment? If one doesn't have reasonable things or comments,I think is advisable for the person to shut up!

  12. 40m for mass wedding! Talk about misplaced priorities! Talk about putting the cart before the horse.
Is that the education dey should provide? abi that one for follow? Imagine what 40m will do if judiciously used in that state rather than using it to organise mass wedding.
