APC Law Makers Say There Is No Going Back On Fayose's Impeachment

The 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers in Ekiti State House of Assembly have said there is no going back on the impeachment plot against Governor Ayodele Fayose.

The embattled Speaker, Dr. Adewale Omirin, said the governor could not run away from the process because the impeachment notice served on Fayose was a constitutional matter and contained serious issues of the law.

He said instead of staying in hiding to evade justice, “it is better to live with the reality that the rule of law has come to stay in the country.”

He said this while reacting to media reports credited to the factional Speaker, Dele Olugbemi, and the governor’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, dismissing the impeachment notice as a joke.

Omirin in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Wole Olujobi, said the move was to rescue democracy from the grip of executive lawlessness and impunity into which the state had been driven by the governor.

He said, “It will soon dawn on Fayose and his aides that the matter at hand goes beyond exuberant media skirmishes that are being deployed to rally support for the governor.

“Attention of the world has shifted to Ekiti State following the leaked tape detailing electoral fraud perpetrated to give Fayose victory. After that, several issues in Ekiti State are being questioned on the place of the constitution in nurturing democracy in the country, and as responsible citizens, we must act right to make democracy work.”

Omirin said all allegations raised in the impeachment notice were constitutional matters, to which the governor must be ready to produce answers instead of “belligerent attitude” in the media in addressing serious issue of constitutional significance.

Advising the governor to respond to the allegations against him, he said running away from the Government House and using his aides to cover his track would not help him in defending his assault on the nation’s constitution and other infractions against the constitution that were already established against him in courts.

“It is good that his men are talking in the media about the need to uphold the constitution in this matter even though they behave short of upholding the constitution in their conduct.

“Even though the governor trampled on the same constitution when he led thugs to attack judges in court and tore court records in the Chief Judge’s office, our duty is to follow constitutional path in this impeachment process.

“These men that are flying the governor’s banner will soon see the law in action. This impeachment process is real. We must rescue Ekiti State from lawlessness and fraud. The N1.3bn poultry project fraud case is still in court. There are still cases of unresolved murders.

“We have again seen the resumption of state-sponsored terrorism with thugs attacking and maiming Ekiti people after a break in 2006 when the governor was impeached for fraud and attacks on opponents.

“We thought his impeachment trauma in 2006 would have taught him a lesson, but the governor has proved that he cannot survive in a society where the law works. We advise him to come out of hiding and defend himself because we are prepared to give him a fair hearing. That is the reality he must face instead of downplaying serious matter of constitutional consequences,” the Speaker added.

Commenting on the impeachment notice on Sunday, Fayose in a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, described his governorship as a mandate freely and wholeheartedly given by Ekiti people.

“Ekiti people who are the owners of my mandate will defend it against political usurpers, whom they had rejected twice in the last nine months,” he said.

Yes ffk was loud...but hey he was doing his job. NIGERIA will be better when politicians understand that it's not about them and their selfish interests but the masses .They are only there to serve.

  19. Gboyega Akinsanmi with agency report
Igbos living in Lagos were told on Sunday to vote for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, or else they will die in the lagoon.

A visibly angry Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, in an unconcealed threat, stated that he was not ready to beg the Igbos, but if they repeated what they did on March 28 when they voted for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), President Goodluck Jonathan, then they should be ready for the consequences.

The victory of the non-indigenes of Lagos, THISDAY gathered, has not gone down well with the Lagos chapter of the APC.

Speaking at a meeting with Igbo leaders in the state, according to an online news medium, Freedom Online, the first class monarch, who failed to recognise the cosmopolitan nature of Lagos, said: “On Saturday, if anyone of you goes against Ambode who I picked, that is your end. If it doesn’t happen within seven days, just know that I am a bastard and it is not my father who gave birth to me.

“Jonathan is my son and I speak to him everyday. By the grace of God, I am the owner of Lagos for the time being. This is an undivided chair. The palace belongs to the dead and those coming in the future.

“On Saturday, if anyone of you, I swear in the name of God, goes against my wish that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos State, the person is going to die inside this water.

“I’m not ready to beg you. Nobody knew how I picked Ambode. Jimi (Agbaje) is my blood relation and I told him that he cannot be governor in Lagos for now. The future belongs to God. I am not begging anybody, but what you people cannot do in Onitsha, Aba or anywhere, don’t do it here.

“If you do what I want, Lagos will continue to be prosperous for you. If you go against my wish, you will perish in the water.”

The monarch said anybody against Ambode did not wish the state well, adding, “I am for the progress, growth and development of Lagos. Ambode is highly cerebral, he’s a symbol and he is going to deliver the message which I, the Oba of Lagos, have said. And he will govern the state for another eight years.

“He is going on a mission and God will give him the wisdom and knowledge to fulfill that mission. Almost a year ago, I declared that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos and it will not change.

“From time immemorial, the previous occupiers of this house will say what they wanted after consultations with other people. And this hasn’t changed and it will not change at this time,” he said.

In a veiled reference to one of Jonathan’s predecessors, Akiolu stated that the crisis Nigeria was facing was not caused by the Jonathan administration but by another person he refused to name.

Continuing with his tirade, he said: “If not for the appeal from Asiwaju (Bola Tinubu) and my highly respected maternal father, the Awujale of Ijebu-Ode, all what is happening today is not the cause of the present government. The man who caused everything knows himself.”

In his response, the Eze-Ndigbo of Amuwo-Oriade, Dr. Gordian Dimojiaku, promised Akiolu that the Igbos in the state would support Ambode.

“The mistake of last Saturday was caused by everybody, not only the Igbos. It is not only the Igbos that were responsible for the votes. But we have learnt our lesson. Saturday’s election is going to be a different thing and Ambode is going to win.

“Everybody knows that when you fail the first time, you cannot afford to fail again. We are going to tell our people that Ezes from the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas are here and that we have sworn with the Oba that we are going to make sure that Ambode wins next Saturday’s election,” he said.

  20. TGW you know i am always loyal to you.
But this apc people should embrace peace not war.
They even said they never believed GEJ would accept defeat that easily.
Everything a leader should do should be in the interest of his people.
Ekiti people voted for Fayose not PDP,they should just accept the fact that Fayose is the man Ekiti kete wants and let peace reign.
