Sampdoria striker Samuel Eto'o has revealed he was the victim of racism during his time at Chelsea.
Eto'o spent last season at Stamford Bridge and scored nine goals in 21 Premier League appearances, but has revealed there was one unpleasant event during his time in west London.
'I went to go buy a watch at a jewellers, not too far from my house,' he told
CNN. 'The watch I wanted to see was expensive. And I asked the saleswoman - who was also black - "Could you show me that watch please?"
'I saw her turn to her co-workers like, "Uh, what should I do?" Eventually, she let me see the watch. I looked at it and said, "OK, I’ll buy it." I took out my credit card and when she went to go run it through the machine, she came back and said that it was declined. I asked her, "Was it declined or did you not want it to be accepted?"
My brother asked, "What’s going on?" and she said, "Nothing, nothing." but he said, "No, because when I came in, I saw how all of you were looking at us."
'My brother told them, "My brother can afford this and the way you’re treating him shows that you think just because he’s black, he can’t afford this watch.''
'The woman then slipped up and said, "No, it’s just that we had some Nigerians in the store the other day who came in with fake credit cards."
'I don’t know if you can imagine the weight of what she said. If one of my own makes a mistake, they judge us all. I don’t think she’s a racist person, but she stereotyped all black people as 'those people.'' -Dailymail

If I'm treated anyhow because I'm black, I'll go to where I'll be appreciated.... No time to allow someone make me feel bad about myself.

ReplyDeletePamscrib.blogspot.com
That's Europe for us
ReplyDeleteStupid people.
ReplyDeleteBecause a card is declined, doesn't mean it's a fraudulent one.
I was embarrassed at H&M when my card was declined. But the sales lady was so nice and told me to keep trying. the card kept getting declined.
Thank God I had another bank's card on me,
which I eventually used.
When I called my account officer about the declined card, i was told it was blocked because I didn't notify them I would be travelling.
People will not even read the entire thread, and rush to post nonsense.
DeleteI tel u
DeleteVey crappy excuse....white people steal and do all sorts too but they ain't stereotyped in the society ...,....I believe there are ways to check the authenticity of the card rather than the embarrassment dished out.....,...I'm disappointed that came from a black woman tho....Stella u must enjoy me
ReplyDeleteLmao!
ReplyDeleteodikwa serious Nigerians and fake things I hail thee o back to the matter unite against racism
ReplyDelete#GODWIN
When will Nigerians stop taking our name to the bin? Bad press again.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, not that I don't get his point oh but I see a case of him being assumptous. More like he was on the defensive, like most blacks can be. I know there is a stereotype thing going on here(very true, this is how storekeepers survive) but not all stereotyping is racism per se. It's not like they hate him for the color of his skin, they just pre-judge him by the standard of what his fellow blacks have done(which is still unfair) but even in Nigeria where everyone is black, storekeepers still treat you and attend to you based on the price of your lace or whether you're dangling a car key and talking. Storekeepers like to weigh people up, I don't think it's a thing of race, unfortunately they have been widely reported cases of black people doing shady stuff and we Nigerians still go abroad to prove them right. Smh. I find this stereotyping thing very unprofessional though. You can think of someone as something in your mind(we all do that once in a while) but blatant disregard of people is not nice.

I think etoo lied cos how did d woman know they were Nigerians in d first place????
Delete@ eka joy, etoo is not Nigerian
DeleteThe observer, of course I know etoo isn't a Nigerian. My question is if those women actually told etoo DAT, did d boys enter d store brandishing a Nigerian flag. Except they were arrested tho.
DeleteNaijaaaaa!
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine !
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmmmmm
Etoo, Djue wai?
ReplyDeleteBut wetin 'cause this one nau?
This actually made me laugh so hard.
We Nigerians eh...
Must he mention Nigeria? Na wao
ReplyDeleteWe r made to understand that stealing is not corruption, so taking it internationally wouldn't be a biggie, if this story is anything to go by.
ReplyDeleteKai Nigerians....
ReplyDeleteI love moi country sha.
Yet Nigerians are the biggest spender in the uk,islright
ReplyDeleteBased on which data ? Speak with facts
DeleteSorry to bust your bubble we are not!
So every dark skinned man is Nigerian now????
ReplyDeleteThat was so presumptuous of the sales lady.
If Oprah Winfrey wasn't even recognized in a shop , not surprised Samuel Eto wasn't aswell.
I think etoo made up d Nigerian part himself or made up d whole story
DeleteThe nigerians who went there with stolen cards were not even scared of the police smh
ReplyDeleteServes him right arrogant monkey.
ReplyDeleteI will take note of your name. You call another human being monkey? It's so so sad
DeleteRose flower, why did u have to use the word monkey.dats not nice
DeleteYou mean you just called Eto monkey ,fear God abeg .
DeleteMy pple i hail ooo.
ReplyDeleteodikwa too risky because Nigeria is too sexy.... Naija no dey carry last for anything. God will help this country.
ReplyDeletethat was how i travelled to Italy last 5 years to buy somethings, my colleagues and 1 entered a shop, na so the white man they follow us ooo. I say God na wa oooo.
no trust at all for anyone in this country.
Maybe he does that to almost everybody
DeleteAll this stereotyping is getting out of hand how embarrassing, the truth is the manager turned the card down and asked the sales girl to bring it back saying it was declined without even running the card. I know their type. The worst set of criminals in this country are the Irish and the English, is just that when it comes to black the overheat is too much.
ReplyDeleteOprah Winfrey was not recognize in a bag store in Europe.it happens to everybody.why his he mentioning Nigerians
ReplyDeleteNigerians be representing motherland every where they put their feets
ReplyDeletecan you see that????bad eggs among us has soiled our image even in foreign lands....you know when I say Nigeria's problem is corruption they don't believe me...this virus has eaten deep inside most of us...is that not embarrassing..thats why when I see some cheap whores and unfocused guys celebrate all these "yahoo guys" and scammers" or "drug dealers" I shiver for them cos they live a very expensive and extravagant lifestyle most ppl just praise them....these guys has soiled our country's image including u reading my post now.it is a big shame on us.God pls bring a saviour to sanitize this great country called Nigeria.....Damnnnn so embarassing,,shttttt
ReplyDeleteThis is how they'll be tarnishing our image over there and when they refuse them VISA, they'll start raking on instagram, facebook, twitter, etc
ReplyDeleteThey deserve it! Why they don't go to Africa and shop with local jewellers and craftsmen. Always putting money in the hands of ppl who have no more respect for you than a stray dog romain the gutters. Now you get shock you couldn't buy luxury expensive watch...mtschewwwwww
ReplyDeleteY do they tag all black as Nigerians. ......I dnt understand dis oyibo pple at all
ReplyDelete
