Samuel Eto'o Claims He Was Victim Of Racism At Jewellery Shop During Time At Chelsea

Sampdoria striker Samuel Eto'o has revealed he was the victim of racism during his time at Chelsea.

Eto'o spent last season at Stamford Bridge and scored nine goals in 21 Premier League appearances, but has revealed there was one unpleasant event during his time in west London.

'I went to go buy a watch at a jewellers, not too far from my house,' he told
CNN. 'The watch I wanted to see was expensive. And I asked the saleswoman - who was also black - "Could you show me that watch please?"
'I saw her turn to her co-workers like, "Uh, what should I do?" Eventually, she let me see the watch. I looked at it and said, "OK, I’ll buy it." I took out my credit card and when she went to go run it through the machine, she came back and said that it was declined. I asked her, "Was it declined or did you not want it to be accepted?"

My brother asked, "What’s going on?" and she said, "Nothing, nothing." but he said, "No, because when I came in, I saw how all of you were looking at us."
'My brother told them, "My brother can afford this and the way you’re treating him shows that you think just because he’s black, he can’t afford this watch.''

'The woman then slipped up and said, "No, it’s just that we had some Nigerians in the store the other day who came in with fake credit cards."

'I don’t know if you can imagine the weight of what she said. If one of my own makes a mistake, they judge us all. I don’t think she’s a racist person, but she stereotyped all black people as 'those people.'' -Dailymail

    2. If I'm treated anyhow because I'm black, I'll go to where I'll be appreciated.... No time to allow someone make me feel bad about myself.

  5. Stupid people.

Because a card is declined, doesn't mean it's a fraudulent one.

I was embarrassed at H&M when my card was declined. But the sales lady was so nice and told me to keep trying. the card kept getting declined.

Thank God I had another bank's card on me,
    which I eventually used.

When I called my account officer about the declined card, i was told it was blocked because I didn't notify them I would be travelling.

  8. When will Nigerians stop taking our name to the bin? Bad press again.

Anyways, not that I don't get his point oh but I see a case of him being assumptous. More like he was on the defensive, like most blacks can be. I know there is a stereotype thing going on here(very true, this is how storekeepers survive) but not all stereotyping is racism per se. It's not like they hate him for the color of his skin, they just pre-judge him by the standard of what his fellow blacks have done(which is still unfair) but even in Nigeria where everyone is black, storekeepers still treat you and attend to you based on the price of your lace or whether you're dangling a car key and talking. Storekeepers like to weigh people up, I don't think it's a thing of race, unfortunately they have been widely reported cases of black people doing shady stuff and we Nigerians still go abroad to prove them right. Smh. I find this stereotyping thing very unprofessional though. You can think of someone as something in your mind(we all do that once in a while) but blatant disregard of people is not nice.

  19. All this stereotyping is getting out of hand how embarrassing, the truth is the manager turned the card down and asked the sales girl to bring it back saying it was declined without even running the card. I know their type. The worst set of criminals in this country are the Irish and the English, is just that when it comes to black the overheat is too much.
