Presidential Election 2015 Update

Today is Nigeria's Presidential election...please leave your house for a few minutes and go out to cast your vote.....

Here are reports from the ongoing voting...

1. Card Readers Fail in Otuoke, President's Accreditation Delayed

The 2015 elections have taken off on a shaky note with the card readers needed for accreditation of voters failing at some polling units.

In Otuoke, President Goodluck Jonathan's hometown in Bayelsa,has had issues with its card readers, with the president and his family  having challenges getting accredited.

So far, four card readers have failed and Mrs Patience Jonathan has not been accredited.

Similar incidents of card reader failure has been recorded in some polling units on Rivers and Lagos State.

2. Buhari Accredited, Commends INEC's Readiness, Says rigging may not be possible

The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) arrived the Sarikin-Yara polling Unit at about 8.38 am to get accredited for voting in the presidential election.

After performing the accreditation, he was full of praise for INEC, saying from the look of things, rigging may not be possible.

Buhari clad in native sparkling white Babariga with a white cap to match arrived with his aides and leuftunants and immediately made his way to the accreditation desk where the polling officials attended to him.

The former Head of State who was accompanied by his Aisha Buhari  spent just five minutes to perform the accreditation before leaving the venue at9.47am. He is expected back to the polling unit by  1pm as required by the law to cast his vote.  Meanwhile accreditation of other voters continued at the polling unit with a very high turn- out of electorate.

Speaking shortly after accreditation, Buhari hailed INEC for the level of readiness exhibited in today's election.

"Well I like the integrity of the system, I am very pleased about it. That means that if people are allowed to vote rigging will be virtually impossible," he said.

On the performance of INEC so far, Buhari said " I think INEC has done very well and I have said it your colleagues elsewhere that from the their presentations at the Council of States which I happen to be a member this time around, INEC has done extremely well," he said.

3• INEC Suspends House of Reps Election in Jigawa

Muhammad Bello, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Jigawa State, Alhaji Halliru Aliyu Tambuwal has announced the suspension of the conduct of election into the eleven federal constituencies in the state as a result of dearth of voting materials.

The suspension, according to Tambuwal, became necessary because INEC, which was ready to conduct the presidential poll in the state, wants to rectify the problems before embarking on the exercise.

No new date has been fixed for the election.

4• Voting Postponed in Two Delta LGAs

Voting was postponed in Ethiope Federal constituency comprising Ethiope East and West Local Government Areas of Delta State because of inadequate supply of voting materials.

The distribution of voting materials by the Warri office of INEC ended at8.20am.

It was however generally peaceful in most of Delta South with few people on the streets while the police provided much of the security with military personnel only at check-points where they originally were.

Card readers worked well in most places visited but there were slight hitches in some places due to inexperience of the operators of the machines.
