After making racist remarks about the First Lady of America, one fired television personality is owning up to his awful comment… kind of.
That's right, ex-Univision star Rodner Figueroa was on the program El Gordo y La Flaca when he said that Michelle Obama looked like a "cast member of Planet of the Apes."
Just disgusting. SeRiouSLY! What century are we living in?!
However, Rodney has since released an apology in which he claims that he's not
a racist. Here's an excerpt of his statement that was personally addressed to Michelle:
''I want to clarify that I am not racist in any way, my comment was not directed towards you, but towards the characterization of the artist, who left much to be desired. The entire video clip in context proves it.
I feel embarrassed, I apologize, because there is no excuse for a professional like me to make these type of comments that can be interpreted as offensive and racist in such volatile times in our country. I take responsibility for this lack of judgment on my part, but I cannot accept being called a racist by anyone and be dismissed as such, and publicly humiliated by Univision after 17 years in this business....'' - culled from Perezhilton my hero.LOL
What do you think about his apology?I think everyone just over reacted because he mentioned Michelle Obama's name.
It was good of him to tow the right path by apologising.
His employers should have asked him to apologise publicly, why fire him just like that?
Anyway ISH happens!
democracy is that not what they practice freedom of speech is allowed but I think because he mentioned Michelle Obama and he is white that's why they took it the order way but the deed has been done
ReplyDelete#GODWIN
First off he isn't "white"
DeleteAnd freedom of speech is not equal to making hateful comments about anyone, Michelle Obama or not.
Juliana Rancic on fashion police made such a comment about a "white' celebrity and she came under same heat and had to apologise.
Again freedom of speech doesn't mean u should make hate comments or stereotype people
Guilty as charged!
DeleteCorrection!
DeleteZendaya isn't white.
Her dad is black.
Abegi
DeleteHis apology does not make sense. The thought process wasn't spontaneous, he's been nursing this idea for so long that when the opportunity came he had to say it. Sacking him does not change anything.
DeleteThis woman don suffer for these ppl hand share....there is even a video posted on the internet telling people she used to be a man, shebi thier tenure will soon finish....make them leave am na....smh
DeleteHe's an idiot. Simple as A B C
DeletePlsssss!!! I'm very happy he was fired! Would serve as a deterrent to others......
ReplyDeleteNow he knows how it feels..
Rest in peace to those lives that were lost as a result of racism!!!!
Those that were shot because they were blacks by the American cops.
Hey babes, how you doing ?
DeleteHi love.
DeleteI'm good, thanks.
And you?
Even though he has apologized, racism is still rooted in his heart.
ReplyDeleteYour comment will be visible after approval
Exactly!
DeleteHis apology is just to save face.
He deserved it, people tend to misunderstand the meaning of freedom of speech and abuse it, what sort of offensive statement is that? Bloody racist!!
DeleteWith that picture you have shown, she nearly looked like..... But seriously, whites have degraded the blacks for a long time and this need to be stopped.
ReplyDeletethe man himself looks like a asshole.
good he was fired.
You,a black, looked at her and thought "she nearly looked like....."
DeleteWhy won't whites degrade blacks when blacks degrade blacks?
Maybe one day, maybe, there would be no blacks or whites....just people.Maybe
I feel sorry for you if as a human being and a black person to compare another to any animal I feel sorry for you. You didn't complete your words but it's clear where your heart lies
DeleteWhen meloracism becomes territorial. Go figure
DeleteLove me Jeje, your comment beggars belief!!
DeleteSMH.
He should shove his apology down his throat...These white cunts have a way of looking down on blacks yet they keep saying they are not racists.
ReplyDeleteGuliana rancic's racist joke about Zendaya has torn fashion police apart already that Kathy Griffin had to quit just yesterday.
People should learn to give as much as they can take.
Wow!you are a racist too
DeleteOr is it racism only when hate comments are addressed to blacks cos of the color of their skin?what about vice versa?
Many people who still insult people from other tribes will come here shouting racism. Charity begins at home.
DeleteWell he has apologised but the did has been donr and lessons has been learnt. Next time people should know when to open their mouth and voice out their minds
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Racism will always exist. But take a look at him, he looks like a monkey mscheww
ReplyDeleteGood he owned up and apologised, i think dats wat d tv shld av asked him to do from d onset.
ReplyDeleteI'm inclined to believe him cos I don't think anyone in his right senses would publicly make a racist comment about their first lady in public (OK maybe people like those APC people supporters sha). But he made d remark anyways and yea, he deserves d sack.
ReplyDeleteHe should have been fired please...And it's not just about him making the remak about the is lady but any other black in general...we go through a lot in the hands of these whites and at times the humiliation is very hard to bare...serves him right tho.....when he gets another job he will control his speech and racist opinions.....Stella u must enjoy me
ReplyDeleteHe did the right thing by apologizing but his job is gone.
ReplyDeleteCrazy boy
ReplyDeleteThat insult was...haba!!! He still sounds rude jor
ReplyDeleteDid i hear somebody say he shouldnt have been fired? You have not been a victim before, so you cannot understand. Yes freedom of speech but watch you tongue when you make such speeches.
ReplyDeleteMrs Obama as the first black First Lady of the United States has been subjected to such abuse and disrespect from the racists. She's been attacked even more than her husband, and gets more death threats than he does.
ReplyDeleteThey are less hostile to him and some embrace him because he's half white, but they hate her because she's fully black and embraces her blackness proudly.
My heart just breaks for her as I watch her stay so stoic and gracious even as she's attacked and disrespected for no reason other than that she's black.
This is a woman who is younger than her husband by 3 years, but who had graduated from Princeton and Harvard and was already practicing law at the top law firm when her husband came to the firm to intern as a first year law student.
She sacrificed all of her own dreams and ambitions to support her husband in his. And these idiots now think they can poke this brilliant woman in the eye.
1000likes jare!
DeleteAll of you are shouting insult, insult but you don't see it as an insult when all of you openly insults the wives of our own presidents and the governors!shit happens!
ReplyDeleteThat's why we must all learn that insults are not the way to go
DeleteTwo faced fools
DeleteAbi oh. Hypocrites
DeleteAfter all .. charity begins at home.
DeletePls don't compare apples and oranges here. Our dear Dame gets insulted because of her own actions and utterances. Is it an insult to call a spade a spade? And I dare say she gives as much as she gets.
DeleteThat serves him right.
ReplyDeletegood 4 him
ReplyDeleteHe insulted her again in his so-called apology by saying that his comment was not directed towards her; when he actually mentioned her name in his comment.
ReplyDeleteHe should've simply given a straight forward apology without trying to be dumb with it.
How many times do our intellectuals abuse our presidents even in their faces and still get away with it? There it not normal to ridicule the leaders, bot here in Naija it is so normal,we call it freedom of speech! there is god oooo!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRidiculing leaders comes with Democracy. It happens all over the world. Racism or bigotry is another matter altogether.
DeleteToo bad
ReplyDeleteToo bad 4 him
ReplyDeleteToo bad
ReplyDeleteI guess freedom of speech is not so free after all. There are consequences
ReplyDeleteThat serves him right!!!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteHow l wish you said that to mugabe then he will have your head lifted off your neck.
That apology doesn't come from the heart.
Good thing he got himself fired, next time he will guard his utterances in the public.
At de end of the day they overreacted or he tot dat place is Naija dat every human nd non human say tins abt their first lady nd go scot free? Tink again Bros
ReplyDeleteLinda r u serious he shouldn't have been fired r u now dumb too
ReplyDeleteHe deserves to be sacked jor.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that there is freedom of speech doesn't mean people should just open their mouths wide and say whatever the like not minding how their comments affect others.
Even his so called apology reeks of rudeness and arrogance.
Unrepentant racist bastard.
Until the philosophy that's holds one race superior, and another, inferior,is finally and permanently, discredited and abandoned..
ReplyDeleteUntil there's no longer first class and second class citizen of any nation,
Until the colour of a man's skin is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes,..its war! ~bob marley
Hmmm, na wa ooo.... Like he is a prize himself?
ReplyDeleteWhat does he even mean by "but I cannot accept being called a racist by anyone and be dismissed as such, and publicly humiliated by Univision after 17 years in this business...." bla bla bla????
Very insincere apology. Abeg move one side first.
Hispanic people are generally very racist.
ReplyDeleteThat was cruel
He she disresoect for the black person, the first lady of the country and to his office. Yes, he needs to be let go off or sent to a back room to work
He is not the first one to say such derogatory comments about Michelle Obama! However, after the hot soup peels their tongues, they turn around to reverse their comments!! Remember the Congressman who said the same thing? These racist will call anybody any bad names and later regret it.
ReplyDeleteJournalist/ social media will cause the next world war. People just say stuff because they know people will listen, and talk about it
