Dropped off your kid this morning already?Okay great!

Another unscrupulous mafia like syndicate ring has been exposed -a new notorious form of racketeering with infants from Day Care Centres.
Daily Times investigation uncovered a tripartite gang, comprising some unscrupulous Day Care Centers (DCC), middle men who act as agents and the operatives who are the beggars.
The operators of the unscrupulous DCCs calculate the hours that mothers who use their services would be at work, then release the kids out to the agents who are responsible for distribution to the beggars. An ex-operative in the racket
(name withheld) who became born again volunteered information in the course of the investigation. She told Daily Times the network runs strictly on trust, and recruits only operatives who come highly recommended by the agents.
“It is the duty of the agents to find operatives; they also find the most likely place for them to stay and ensure that both the women and the children are safe. They are also responsible for returning the children and their respective centers at the appointed times,” she said.
The source further revealed that the agents understand the risks involved in taking someone’s child for alms begging and ensure that children are never sent to locations where they may be identified and some DCCs, it is believed, drug the children to make them sleep through the ‘business’ hours.
“Children from one location are taken to a far place so that chances of their parents running into them would be reduced; and also, the operatives are under watch all the time so that, if there is any sign of trouble, they would move in and take the operative and the children away. Also, the safe hours are very important because a parent must not come and not meet their wards at the centers.” she added.
Rates differ according to the season; the festive or important seasons attract higher tariffs per child.
According to reports from a Daily Times correspondent who took to the streets to investigate further, a dark complexioned woman was spotted around Ikeja under bridge, Lagos, with three infants; not more than three months old. Curiously, she was not alone; a second woman sat beside her, carrying one of the kids.
When questioned about the paternity of the children, how old they were and why she was out there in the sun with them, a drama of a sort unfolded:
The woman immediately flared up, cursing while the second woman hastily reached for her phone, made a quick call and lo, a blue Toyota Camry pulled out from the Computer Village gate end, made a quick u-turn under the bridge and slowed down beside the women who scrambled into the car with the infants and they sped off.
Like a rehearsed movie script, one moment the women were there; in a few minutes they were gone; but two things caught the eye of the correspondent:
the children, all the while appeared to be sleeping, even when they were being bundled into the vehicle, none of them as much as stirred, and secondly, the driver of the vehicle screened his face off with a sunshade dark as the night, and thirdly, the vehicle number plate was not distinguishable.
A similar drama also reportedly occured at the busy Iyana Ipaja two days later. This time, a fair woman with a laminated photo of a set of triplets in their infants making it appear like she was the woman in the photo with them, was spotted. In her arms were the triplets, all boys now about three years old; but something curiously noticeable is the state of the boys: they were looking too healthy and well groomed to have been surviving from alms begging.
Attempts to tail her home and make inquiries from her neighbourhood, was futile as an unbranded bus with two women and several children picked her and the boys up about 8 a.m. She had been there two hours and since then she never showed up there again.
It was further learnt that the Centers take responsibility for preparing and dressing the kids up for business, while the agent takes responsibility for dropping the operatives/ babies at their ‘outlets’ and returns them at the appointed time; DCCs then bathe the children and freshens them up ready for their parent’s pick up.
The sight of women with two or more children, mostly infants, sitting by the busy sidewalks, at major bus stops, market places, and on some busy pedestrian bridges begging for alms is no longer strange. Like a smokescreen, the operators shield their nefarious practices with a compelling humanity that calls the human conscience to question.
The age of children used for this racket ranges from one month to six months and above, depending on the prevailing circumstances, but there is always room for special arrangements.
Thus, for those who take their infants to Daycare centres, vigilance is the watchword while you can also do quick and unexpected checks on your kids.
Chineke Allah Olodumare Osanobwa. What have i not heard? Isi mu awali. (my head is rolling). What sort of inhumane act is this? This women should be Lynched! Simple.

Wow...I'm speechless. God sure doesn't want me to go to prison for murder, that's why He gave me the drive for business and not 9 to 5 that I have to leave my child all day.

Just thinking of all the owo sara (pray on money, rub body with it things) that must have exchanged hands over these kids heads gives me the shivers.

DeleteHorrible!
DeleteI think I once shared a client's experience regarding this on this blog. How their nanny, a seat at home nanny, would take their son to beg for alms on the busy street everyday from 11am to 3pm. How did the couple find out?
DeleteThe father of the child saw them in traffic around Allen Avenue Ikeja. And because he was driving on the opposite side of the road where the traffic was milder, he quickly abandoned his car and flew to the other side of the road to attack the nanny.
He said that at first, it was only d nanny he saw, cos their son was barely 4months old, she strapped the baby to her back. The man thought that the nanny was out to do her thing and perhaps left their child at home unattended.
Not until he reached her did he see his son. Madame nanny had a purse across her where she stuffed monies she collected from begging. The father got there and he just started to cry. He was too weak and he sat on the floor and wept profusely. The people around confirmed that they saw her everyday with the child, they were the ones that told him the hours she spent there.
It wasn't funny at all. As the couple went ballistic. They paid her 40k a month to work 4days a week, as the boys mum was always home on Fridays. Apart from her salary she used to get a lot of gifts and bonuses from this young couple. She reported to work mornings and closed her shift around 5:30pm everyday o. The nanny was just crying and begging, that she didn't know why she did what she did, considering they had been nice to her since she was hired when the baby was a month old. She said she made almost 10k a day from begging, but on slower days she would clock around 5k a day.. Imagine that?
Eventually, the baby's mother had to resign to take care of her child o. We need to scrutinize the people we entrust our children... Even in school, anything can happen.
Oxygen and Magnesium!!!! What did i just read? Turning people's kids as beggars? Wonders shall never end in dis country..See how good looking and well fed these kids looks..Dis is d heigtht of wickedness..

DeleteWhat is dis life Turing into biko nu...
ReplyDeleteNowhere seems to be safe for our babies anymore.Leaving them at home with househelps isn't safe and keeping them in Day care centers isn't safe either! Why are some people this wicked and desperate for money? Now I understand why most men don't want their wives to work,so that they can sit down at home and look after their children until they are old enough to look after themselves. No one can look after a child better than its mother.
ReplyDeleteMay God help and protect our children from this wickedness!
Amen and amen.
DeleteAt last somebody that understands. But everyday people curse housewives. My wife is at home and i am happy my children are in safe hands. Similar thing happened along kakawa street in Lagos in the 90's, the lady was passing by when she sighted her child sleeping with 2 other babies on the lap of this beggar. She raised alarm. The women confessed she rents the children from the day care and drug them to sleep. It was a breaking news in NTA then, and Newsline carried our investigation on it then. Many creches were exposed. Later, I heard nothing about such until now. This is so sad. When my eldest child gets to 15 years, my wide will either start a business or get a government job.

Delete*goose bumps*
ReplyDeleteThis isn't new now. Its been happening.
ReplyDeleteParents have got to be careful.
If you usually close by 5 and pick your kids at say 6 all the time, Make a twist.
Do spontaneous check on your child. Visit the creche unexpectedly by 12 noon or 3pm or anytime other than your usual 6pm pick up time.
Do it often to avoid stories that touch. Even if the child minders have such plans up their sleeves, they would be scared cos they know you as the mother ain't predictable as you can come around at any time.
In other news...the traffic today is ter-ri-ble! I heard burning of cars, violence and all of that is going down at oshodi.
Phew!

DeleteBlame Nigerians...lazy things. Why has this not be brought in front of your State senate to pass a law that all day cares must have cameras set up for monitoring, people have to get licenses and checks be made by welfare to different public and private daycares to ensure they are following procedures. Why patronize mushroom day cares and not check on your child during the day esp the infants. Your husband can do so if you are far away. Na we suppose take action and not shout, God have mercy and carry on.

ReplyDeleteHmm. This is so real. Reminds me of trade fair when I was still working there. There is this woman with 2 infants begging for money. Even when it's raining or sunny, this woman will not look for shelter to stay. She prefers to still beg in the rain in order for people to pity her. I got angry one time and was going to confront her, my colleague pulled me back and asked me to mind my business. But I still scold her anytime I see her, until I stopped seeing her there. Like the writer pointed out, this children are always sleeping. May God help us in this country.

Mothers please if you drop your child in a creche or with a help at home always do spontaneous check on your child f not just because of this story but because of so many other things.
ReplyDeleteOne of the days i did spontaneous check(at about 10.30am) on my child in a creche in a class of 11 children below 2 years no teacher was there a child was holding a spoon what went through my mind was what if he pokes another child in the eye. And my child will always come home with bruises when you ask the school the will say the don't know.I quickly withdrew my child after that seen until i found a reputable school which i had to pay double but trust me money does not matter when it comes to child matter.
The one that happened at home was seeing my child playing with the trash in the kitchen while my help was sleeping in her room.
Only God will help us working moms.
Ur house help is human too. She cannot take some responsibilty of ur chikd. She was probably sleeping because she was exhausted. Do u give her one or 2 hours to rest when u get back from work?
DeleteWhy won't u sleep when u are using her like a slave? She was tired. And I guess u were on the phone chatting too
@Efe; surprisingly Maplecrest in chevy view estate off chevron drive isnt expensive. Infact, they are flexible. I walked in and spoke to the owner. The vibe i got in the school was awesome. Infact, parents should watch out for the vibe. If you have a bad vibe, take your child and run far. Infact, been telling all my neighbours to take their children there. After carrying my baby for 9 months, she deserves the best.
ReplyDeleteOk,thanks
DeleteIf you can't take care of your kids don't have them. Nigerian mothers are really misguided these days, blaming everyone but themselves. Sacrifice a few years of your useless careers and look after them yourselves then go back to work. If your husband earns nothing or less than you let him be a stay at home dad. Everyone wants to wear suits in the morning feeling important while neglecting their primary duties.
ReplyDeleteNigerian mothers who just have kids because it is time then hand them over to others to raise. Even in the western world women know what it takes to be mothers and they sacrifice to do it. Leave high flying jobs stay home and take care of their kids or take low-paying part-time jobs well below their skills and level of education. When the kids get to secondary school, the mothers re-train, take whatever exams they need to brush up and get back there. But our lazy, feminist Nigerian women competing with men are actually just BREEDERS not mothers, keep handing them off to others to take care of and they will do as they like with what should your most valuable possession.
ReplyDeleteOh shut up.
