I am weak from anger and the shock i felt reading this story.
A woman, who is believed to be mentally unstable, has dumped a new-born baby by the roadside in the Abule Egba area of Lagos.
The woman, who was said to be dark in complexion, was always reportedly roaming the area which is near a filling station.
It was gathered that the baby was wrapped in a black sack, neatly clothed and covered with a plaster on the mouth and dumped in the area on Wednesday,
January 28.
A trader, Mrs. Atanda Kuforiji, said they were taken aback by the sight of the abandoned baby.
She added that a resident of the area drew the attention of other residents to the presence of the baby dumped by the roadside.
She explained that everybody went to the scene to see why the resident was shouting, only to be confronted by the sight of the new baby.
She said, “The baby was wrapped in a sack and placed by the roadside. I saw a crowd gather and decided to have a look; the child was still alive.
“People took pictures of the baby.
“His mouth was covered with a plaster to prevent him crying out. Everybody was saying what came into their heads, but nobody offered to help the baby.”
It was learnt that many of the dwellers in the area were too scared to pick the baby from where he was dumped.
But they said they suspected that the baby belonged to the mentally-unstable woman.
A driver, Mr. Lasisi Gafar, said since the incident, nobody had seen the woman in the area.
He said, “There used to be a female lunatic around the street who was pregnant, but since the child had been dumped I have not seen any trace of her.
“We suspect that she was the one that dumped the baby here, but nobody could find her to question her.”
He added that neither he nor most people in the area knew when and how the baby was dumped by the roadside.
It was gathered that the baby later died after struggling to live for over six hours.
A trader, who identified herself simply as Iya Monsura, said, “The child was alive as of 11am, but when government officials came around 5pm, he was dead. They took the dead body away.”
It was learnt that no efforts was made to report the case of dumped baby to the police. Some of the residents said such attempt could put them in trouble as the police might treat them as suspects.

'*I do not know if i should curse the woman that dumped this baby or the people that watched little baby lie in the dump for over 5hours until he died....this story is traumatic .

DeleteGod 4give those people that just watched a baby die. Mentally unstable mother that is pardonable but sensible people taking pictures and talking on who is wrong or not is un4giveable.
Show a little bit of kindness wherever u go. If that baby has been picked up and wrapped in clothes she would have lived.
Can't even believe no one removed the plaster from the baby's mouth.

Gosh! Wat d heck, so no sane mother could pick d baby up? Why must we always wait for shit govt officials to arrive at d scene first?
Oh my! Watching d baby die is the worst, my neibo mustn't read it o,cos she will cry tru-out dis month, she's crying for fruit of d womb and here some pple just watch a baby die just like dat!!
Lord have mercy...
This is unbelieveable, so everyone were interested only in taking pictures of that little unfortunate baby, but no one was interested to carry the baby to a motherless baby home or report to the police to take adequate actions. They all watched and allow that baby to die in their presence. I just feel sad for some people and their mentality. Woe unto the mother of that baby, mentally unstable or not.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, this hurts to the bones! You might not fully understand the pains until you become a mom! I wish I was there: I would have picked it up, wrapped it, given it the biggest bear-hug ever and taken it home to feed and bathe it before even thinking of any police station! This hurts so baddd! Any change begins wt the people
Change of mindset, attitude, conduct, way of life in general.
If we don't change how will our country be a changed one?

And some people will come here and start screaming change...forgetting that change starts from an individual b4 getting to ur neighbor, fellow tenants, street neighbors, fellow staff and d community...SMH!!! Change indeed
DeleteThe onlookers killed the baby. They should have at least remove the plaster to enable him have control of air. May God cleanse our wicked hearts.
ReplyDeleteOmg!
ReplyDeleteHow could they have allowed the child lie in a dump for over 5hrs, they just stood there watching. The blood of the child will not only be on the mother's head but also on the head of the people who watched him die without making an attempt to help him. This is so sad.
ReplyDeleteStupid idiots....left a baby to die? Kai
ReplyDeleteSad and pathetic. Who do we really blame here. The mentally unstable woman, the man who got her pregnant and didn't look out for her being that she's mentally unstable, or the public who were "scared" to help.
ReplyDeleteI cried when I read that the baby later died!! This is the height of human wickedness on fellow human!! How can one watch an innocent baby die? Is taking pics for social media more important to them to saving the baby's life?!! I tire for Nigerians wen they scream "change "and cruixfy their leaders!! That's a wicked act!!!
ReplyDeleteOMG! I'm sad and angry. Why are people like this? I don't think the baby's mum is a lunatic jor. How can a lunatic ever think of using a tape to shut the baby's mouth? Where did she get it? Na lie jor...
ReplyDeleteMy anger is less on the mother but high on those that saw the baby and did nothing. Common! If they had taken the baby to a nearby police station and then to hospital, it would have survived.
This world is just too wicked. RIP lil one.
So sad!
ReplyDeleteI was on my way to the market with my little sis when i saw a woman with her child tied to her back. she was waiting for bus when jst like what we see in movies the woman fall yakata for ground with her baby. I was alarmed cos the baby hit the ground first. people jst begin shift away from the woman nd her wailing child. Person wey wan help the lady self was told nt to touch her by some people. Na there i know say if anything happen to u for nija, people go jst dey snap ur pix till u die. The woman got up almost immediately bt me sef wey dey report for go help bt i was scarred. A country whereby police go arrest u for helping an accident victim and charge u with the crime wetin person go do. The change we need must start from us. Rip to the beautiful baby. Sylvia

ReplyDeleteThe heart of man is desperately wicked, who can know it. All they had to do qas remove the plaster for the child to breathe and call the emergency lines
ReplyDeleteToo angry ryt now, a gr8 destiny wasted. These pple who left him to his fate are wicked honestly, I guess its Jonathan's fault that he wasn't offered any help. We fail to do our bit when we hav d chance to do so, its not fair. Kai to think dis adorable baby was without shelter, food, water or love till he gave up has made me cry dis morning. Kai
ReplyDeleteMy anger is directed at the man who raped her. It is rape. A woman who is insane cannot possibly give consent. The problem starts from him
ReplyDeleteTrue.
DeleteThe mother of the abandoned child isn't the only mentally unbalanced one.
The man that possibly raped her is insane.
The spectators who stood by watching a baby die are more insane.
They should all go for mental/psychological evaluation.
I mean, was watching a kid die an orgasmic experience for them ?
And sure they were busy snapping the baby...No one could even call for help? The baby must have gone through a painful death
ReplyDeleteMy anger is directed at the man who raped her. It is rape. A woman who is insane cannot possibly give consent. The problem starts from him
ReplyDeleteWhen I read that the baby later died, was force to drop tears. Why are people this wicked? Why didn't they help the poor child before calling or waiting for the govt officials to come. We all have to CHANGE, before Nigeria will see CHANGE.#SoSadRightNow#
ReplyDeleteJisos ooooo
ReplyDeleteHow could they have watched dis Poor Poor baby die???
Jisos! Wot has happened to some of us bikonu??
Some of the speculated that d baby might be that of d unstable woman.meaning d baby was born without Medical Care n needed Medical attention ASAP.....and dey were Taking pictures...
I am soooo angry!
Have We become so detached and Sooo inhuman??
Wil a new baby bite???
All it would have taken was just one voice....one voice to urge others to do d right thing....Kai
Just hospital oooo...just hospital...
Poor Poor baby....
Go on now n rest U Poor Darling.
#hearbroken#
it is really sad, look at their mentality has there been any case that police held anybody that carry an unborn child to the police station?nigerians b ur brother keeper.so there is no woman in the area looking for the fruit of the womb that could have help save that child.it is well oh.afterall no be their fault.
ReplyDeletenaija Pple nawa ooo...we want change and we r not even changing tins....if only dey had attended to the baby rather than looking and snapping pics..

ReplyDeleteI didn't know Nigerians were still this barbaric. For fear of the police you let an innocent and vulnerable child to die?
ReplyDeleteHow did we get to this level where human life means just nothing to us anymore?
I'm so vexed right now.
**********Blessed Mrs**********
Why carry a baby to full term and then abandon him
ReplyDeleteOh! Poor baby
So people actually watched this baby struggle to live for good six hours and couldn't help
What exactly were they scared of???
There's no difference between the mother of the baby and those that watched him die
Wait!!..they were scared but could take pictures
Ndia bukwa ezigbo ndi ala
Am just angry!
Those who watched the baby die without volunteering to help save the baby's life should start praying to God for forgiveness.
ReplyDeleteIf they are taken as suspect is it a robbery case, at worst case scenario they take custody of the baby.
Chai! Too bad, when some are desiring a baby some are dumping theirs after 9months and a day of Labour and pains.
Nigerians should stop the attitude of "I don't care" it do our nation no good.
When will people stop being selfless, how cn u take pics n watch a baby die???
ReplyDeleteMay god forgive d people that were watching bcos they commited more offence. *longhiss*
It breaks my heart so much dat our generation has degenerated to this extend instead helpn the poor helpless soul they took to snaping pictures and what use are the pictures for self? Smh I can't stand a crying baby talk more of seeing one in a near death situation and do nothing about it. Jesus please come down already
ReplyDeleteThe people that stood by,did the worst crime....so sad

ReplyDeleteAm crying as I typed dis, d people dat killed d baby are d onlookers...there is no harm in feeding d baby first,...take him to child welfare but they were busy taking pics... Poor country
ReplyDeleteThis is so disheartening.
ReplyDeleteChai God, all of dem sat watching a baby with plaster in mouth from 11am-5pm, chaii. I no wat I suffered and went tru b4 having my baby last year both financially and emotionally. I'm easily pained whn I c tins happen to kids. Wat stoped one of d women wraping d baby with a wraper if u are scared to touch d baby, wrap him properly and gv him formula. I'm so hurt. Just xdy my baby aspirated and was choking, I cried all d way to d hospital. God pls gv al d woman dt deserve babies d gift of being mothers.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad! Why didn't they rescue d baby immediately they saw him?
ReplyDeleteThey watched the baby there for six hours and nobody could do anything. Hie am I typing sef. The woman that gave birth to the baby is insane abi. The people that stood there watching are wicked, very wicked.
ReplyDeletestella i felt pain this morning when i saw this story..for God's sake..a mad woman wont have the sense to think that she would use a tape to stop a baby's cry from been heard...nooo..she could have strangled the baby or stuffed clothes in the mouth so whoever dumped that baby there is sane..its just unfortunate that people watched the baby for 6hours and cudnt at least give the baby food and take the tape off..we do live in a wicked world...*tears....
ReplyDeleteMay God have mercy on the mother who chose to abandon her gift from God and those who stood and watched life flow out of the baby's life. This is so unfair! Father, please hear our cry for our own children and we promise to take care of them well..
ReplyDeleteGosh. Why do these things keep happening far from where I live? Folks weren't scared of snapping pictures, but they were scared of taking him to the police station? Honestly, I don't blame them in a way. In Nigeria, anything is possible. They may arrive the police station, only to be arrested and slammed with dubious charges. It's a pity the milk of kindness has stopped flowing in some hearts of Nigerians. Such an innocent baby. I feel so sad. This just made me weak and teary.
ReplyDeleteI put d blame on all d pple dat saw wen d baby was alive. She shd have untied her mouth.
ReplyDeleteD men that impregnanted her will receive their reward

ReplyDeleteImagine! Poor baby, Mtcheww snapping pictures instead of them to atleast take d baby to a police station now d poor soul is dead rip!
ReplyDeleteI understand how it could have happened that the baby was unattended to for 6 hours because it happened to me when I was 12 (I am 33 in April). I was on my way to my mum's shop when i saw a dead baby wrapped in a box. I raised alarm only to have a police man accost me instead of reporting it. He said the baby was mine......I had not even start having periods then sef
ReplyDeleteGosh!! Terrible. Rest on little one. Am sure you are an angel in heaven now
DeleteShuoooo....at 12yrs police man wanna slam you with a baby......
DeleteWow.
DeleteIt happened to my grandma, too.
She wasn't even in her puberty stage.
And police accused her of dumping a baby in a latrine.
She said she cried her eyes out.
It was later discovered that it was her step sister that dumped the dead baby boy in the pit.
The news was hushed, because step sister's mom was an influential woman.
Years later, step sister struggled to have a baby boy.
All the boys she had usually give up ghost a few hours after birthing them.
No male child for her till date.
OMG!!!the mother of the baby is wicked, later they will be runing from one church to another all in search of a child
ReplyDeleteOh i did not read were they said the mother is mentally unstable!!my mistake
DeleteThis is SAD!!!! Forget the government, people sat and watched this baby die!!! My baby is currently sleeping and I just can't!
ReplyDeleteWe have a LONG way to go as a society! Lets stop shouting PDP this! APC that! I don't care! The problem is us!
God, even to remove the freakin plaster!!! Are you kidding me???????????? So livid!!! The kid died from asphyxiation!!!!!! Lack of oxygen!!
Shame on everyone! From Mrs Kuforiji, every single person who saw this baby and did nothing!!! A big SHAME on the idiot who took this pic!!!!! You had the nerve to take pic but did nothing!!! Stella and this fool now sent it in???? I am in tears, so PISSED!!!!!!!
@MISS WORLD, what is hilarious? what is funny about it. Abeg if you dont know the right word to use in this crazy situation, stop!
If una like vote GEJ or BUHARI, there will be absolutely NO change until we the people change!! Oya go and kill yourselves for election results! Thats what we know how to do best
Now who is more insane? The crazy woman that dumped her baby or the stupid people that watched a new baby helpless for 6hours without food, warmth or water? No matter wat you dread of the police, there are just some things you don't fold your hands and watch happen no matter the consequences.
ReplyDeleteGood God! Why did I read this? Why? *note self: do not read any abandoned baby post anymore*
ReplyDeleteMy heart just broke! 6 hours, no milk (when newborns feed every 2 hours), no warmth, muffled cry cus of the plaster over his mouth. My God! Rest in peace little one, we're sorry!!
U dat did this,God is watching you and you will meet Him oneday.
ReplyDeleteRIP pretty lil angel!
ReplyDeleteIts funny how everyone here's playing goddy goody, screaming "inhuman" blaming the crowd who stood n watched the baby die, when they should hv helped save the its life.
Q:
Would you have done that which you accuse them of failing to do had u been there?
No bi Naija again, where people get paid with evil for their gud deed
May his soul rest in peace..very sad story
ReplyDeleteHOW CAN GOD HELP NIGERIANS WHEN WE ARE SO WICKED. I am so mad at this story and then at TGW's story. People please you never know when you will need help or your child.
ReplyDeleteShame on our police, illiterates of the highest order. Someone calls for help and you arrest her that the baby is hers.
This is so sad, if I may ask what will d police do for saving d little baby for dyeing? I ve seen people in my area dat rescued a baby like dat from inside canal water, they cleaned d baby n immediately rush him to station they gave their statement n came back that was all.
ReplyDeleteThe world stood and watched you die.
ReplyDeleteRest in God's perfect peace poor poor baby, so sorry we let you down. Lord have mercy.
Stella, please find out if someone could be allowed to adopt the baby. I'm currently in uk and have kids of my own, helping out another wouldn't hurt. I'll remain anonymous as LadyLuck, until I hear from you. Keep up the good work.
