A mild drama occurred on Tuesday at the political debate organised by the Committee for Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, Ogun State Chapter, for governorship candidates, as one of the contenders found it difficult to boldly face the public and attend to questions.
The debate which took place at DLK hall in Abeokuta, exposed the shy side of the governorship Candidate of Mega Progressive Peoples Party, Iyabo Ogunmefun, who found it difficult to face the audience.
Ms. Ogunmefun became apparently jittery when given a question and handed a microphone, resulting into uncontrollable laughter from the public, with many of them describing her as a clown.
When the organisers noticed she was not fluent in her English presentation, the MPPP candidate was given the opportunity to address the audience in her mother tongue, Yoruba.
Ironically, she faced the same challenge of not being able to face the crowd.
Meanwhile, the governorship candidates who appeared for the debate include: Gboyega Isiaka(PDP)
Abolaji Sunmola(LP)
Benjamin Onafadeji(NCP)
Eyiowuawi Razaq(PPN)
Olufowobi Adebayo(KOWA)
Olawoyin Solomon(CPP)
Iyabode Ogunmefun(MPPP)-

DeleteClown is right! Only in Nigeria tho where illiterates have the guts to contest for public offices. Because the citizens actually do not give a fuck. We think we do but our actions say otherwise .
DeleteI won't be surprised if this woman wins whatever it is she contesting for. After all, all it takes to get elected in Nigerian politics is knowing and bribing the right people.
NewBie!
Advice to politicians and intending politicians- Be formally educated! Make conscious efforts to build your self esteem, practice and be good at public speaking. There are tonnes of books on that.

If a debate had been organised in the bible days on who to lead the children of isreal, do you think moses would have won? Eloquency is not a criterion to been a leader. Roger that...
DeleteIn the days of the bible, if God had organized a debate on who should lead the children of israel, moses wouldn't have a chance.
DeleteMoral of the story: Eloquency is not a criterion for leadership.
Embarrassment of the highest order, lmao. I'm sure she's just a WASCE certificate holder!
ReplyDeleteThere are. People with standard 6 certificate who speak very fluent English and can address the crowd. Stage fright and fluency in English is beyond the certificate you have. Jonathan is a PhD holder but let him have a debate with Fashola and he'll be floored

Deletei was 9 in Primary 5 when we went for an Interstate debate on the topic 'Fathers are better than Mothers'. I was soo shaken that when i wanted to end the Debate. I said. ''I hope i have confused u rather than convince u. That FATHERS are better than FATHERS''.. My Teacher, my codebaters the representatives from ma school wanted to kill me. I held that guilt till i finished primary school. Lol, so ma'am shyness can sometimes be a B*tch.

«Jealous SDKer«
Eya, sowi ma'am
ReplyDeleteLobatan! So if she can't face a crowd how is she gonna lead a whole state.
ReplyDelete"Just because they have to face a crowd" please it is really a big task and if you find it easy then kudos to you....a lot of celebrities who' acts films etc say that facing a live crowd can be very intimidating!
ReplyDeleteHowever if she is trying to get the highest seat of a state I.e Governorship then she should know that public speaking is key...not just embezzling
She is shy doesn't mean she doesn't kw d Qs,they would v told her to back d crowd n ansa d Qs..... Nigerians like to de happi fr pesin downfall always.
ReplyDelete~@iamjbankz SA to President Jonathan 2015~
Some people fall victim to this but why is she contesting? Funny doh. Top of d day to y'all!
ReplyDeleteEyah. She should have taken a course on public speaking before the events.
ReplyDeleteor taken monkey tail
DeleteOr kai kai
DeleteOr Dongoyaro...
DeleteShe should have known b4 now na. Haba, abeg she is not fit to rule jor. Shyness is not a trait of a good leader. Sorry Iyabo, u just lost
ReplyDeleteShe should have practised by speaking to the mirror, the walls, her children and practically everything around her, assuming they are her audience.
ReplyDeleteShe would do better in the next debate.
Very funny . She wants to be governor of a state nd cant face people to express her self. Mediocres should not be in Politics.
ReplyDeleteVery funny . She wants to be governor of a state nd cant face people to express her self. Mediocres should not be in Politics.
ReplyDeleteNa so all of them dey do.
ReplyDeleteMost of them are just opportune to be in politics.
That was how Lagos state deputy governor kept pronouncing Adam from the bible as Adams.
Someone from the audience asked if it is Oshiomole.
I was ashamed on her behalf.
oponu...... *opportuned.
DeleteStella even me too oh!!b4 I no fit face even 5people except dey are my friends but now even if na million dem B once I get up there I don't see dem again I will say wateva I want to an get down.i neva get blog ID bcos I neva sabi operate dis well at all#kisses to everyone on SDK an SDK family (blog members)
ReplyDeleteThe crowd was overwhelming for her. I Still remember how my aunt burst into tears in church just because they asked her to pray for the youths.
ReplyDeleteI feel for her o, but if she were to win how was she going to address her people?, politics is not for timid people
ReplyDeleteKikikikikikikiki. ....I couldn't help but laugh oooooo. Gubernatorial aspirant for dt matter? If you cnt stand the heat, don't go near the kitchen. Public speaking is part of the package dt comes with a governorship position. How she wan tk cope when she enter office? Are you sure somebody didn't just dash her form like ds cz she doesn't even look it sef....mk I shut my mouth abeg.
ReplyDeleteProduct of Awolowo free Education!!!

Farts on anyone that comes here to yarn dust.
Haba!
DeleteOdeshi!
DeleteEwoooo!
ReplyDeletePublic speaking isn't for the weak.
Eyahhhhh I feel so sorry for her. That's one thing our educational system needs to inculcate in the system. These things need to be taught from elementary school, as it builds your confidence. I remember when we had presentation in school, OMG! All those noise makers became mute when it got to their turn...TF! Some people were so jittery you'd fall off your seats laughing....It was AMAZING!!! I used to be jittery, but being in a country where all your courses have mandatory presentation, it gets better, it becomes a part of you, and you are more relaxed.
ReplyDeleteE Pele Ma. ...I'm sure the crowd would've embarrassed the life of her.
She should have known and take precaution!
ReplyDeleteSmoke weed
Or shak whiskey
Weed I don't smoke

ReplyDeleteNo b small embarrassment. Sorry madam.
ReplyDeleteDuring primary sch days debate I go just dey look up like say I lost something till I go finish lool n we dey win most times..facing crowds no easy ooo, even for university I just tint my face give my speech and leave stage, and we carry third.looools
ReplyDeletethat is stage fright. Not easy when lots of people are looking at you. The better way to handle this is to look above their head and pretend they are not in the room. Na wa ooo. she want to rule Ogun state abi.
ReplyDeletemadam, dont let our women down oooo.
She suld be given a chance to rule biko. She only had stage fright .
ReplyDeleteStage fright" is synonymous with "public funds fright"
I disagree, what chance? How can she develop stage fright Nd is contesting for a public post? only in Nigeria
DeleteAddressing crowds happens to be my thing. Nothing thrills me more than it. If she is too shy to talk to her own people then she has no business campaigning to be their Governor . The next time she faces such a challenge, she should just tell herself that nobody in that crowd can actually come up and beat her physically no matter what she says. The worst the crowd can do is boo and booing should be the least of any public speaker's concerns. I wish her better luck next time.
ReplyDelete@ G_pharm!! You just killed me! Rolling on the floor with laughter !!!
ReplyDeleteStella sugar, you too wicked ooo. See as you put the woman picture out there with fear in her. You for help us cover women ooooo
ReplyDeleteGobe!
ReplyDeleteEya stage fright
ReplyDeleteI have been there, she would have practice it before now
Odikwa serious... This really made me laugh.
ReplyDeleteThat's so uncalled for.atleast d party members should have atleast done some kind of rehearsal within d party group b4 naw.#shithappens#
ReplyDeleteoh DLK hall, i see. Seems like error of the brain, buhahaha. Trust my kinsmen to laugh.. But who is that Isiaka man sef..
ReplyDeleteP.S. The adrenaline rush just keeps pumping and the first utterance can be quite tricky
They should have done a rehearsal first, eya!well English is not her first language tho.so many people Cnt face crowd
ReplyDeleteThen she shdnt contest , efe abi u de UK? Is this how George Osborne, chuka umunna, Nigel farage or Nick cleg get frightened to speak? If u cnt speak infront of people, then u are not fit to rule
Deleteheya!!! sorry dear.stage freight embarrassing people since time memorial
ReplyDeleteit might be stage fright or maybe the poor woman does not have good plans for the state. Did she think being a governor is only about the money? what about Public appearances where she will be expected to give speeches?
ReplyDeleteDont dabble into what you don't have a strong suit for...no be by force
ReplyDeleteThis is big embarrassment
ReplyDeleteLol. Not every one can face a crowd. She has disqualified herself.
ReplyDeleteshr should have practiced now...eeyah
ReplyDeleteChoi..this is,original GOBE! U don loose be that.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me on my undergraduate days. During a lecture, a lecturer threw a question at d class of over 1000 students, no1 was willing to answer. Unfortunately he pointed at me and asked me to answer. I was so jittery.
ReplyDeleteNa English I take rescue myself cos if u asked few minutes later how I answered the question, I wouldn't know. Just gotta be sharp at some point. Sorry madam! However I don't want u ruling my state, neither do I want amosun. But no better candidate.
