Man Jumps off Third Mainland Bridge And Drowns

Yesterday morning,  news went viral on twitter, by eyewitnesses, that a man had jumped into the lagoon.

The man has been identified as Okechukwu Ezeigbo. He drowned in the Lagoon after taking a dive from the top of the Third Mainland Bridge on Thursday.

The Imo State indigene was said to be among several passengers in a commercial bus heading towards Obalende, on the Lagos Island area of Lagos State, when the incident happened.

It was learnt that the victim suddenly asked the driver of the bus to stop and before anyone could realise what was going on, he hurriedly put off his shoes and took a dive into the Lagoon.

Some officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, who later arrived at the scene, were said to have sought the help of fishermen in the area, who brought the victim out. But he was already dead.

A LASTMA official, who pleaded anonymity, said, “The incident happened around 9am. We got an alert that somebody had fallen into the Lagoon.

“He was in a commercial bus and then jumped down and dived into the river. Nobody knows the reason for his action.

“Motorists began to park their vehicles on the road and that created a gridlock.

“We quickly moved in and asked people to clear their vehicles from the road.

“Some fishermen then brought him and we handed over the body to the Adekunle Police Station. There was nothing with which we could identify him.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident, adding that the police had contacted his relatives.

Nwosu added that preliminary investigation showed that the victim had mental problem and had been taken to a church located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, for prayers before he escaped.

He said, “The relatives said they did not know how he left the place and joined a public transport. The police have recovered the corpse and deposited in a morgue” culled - Punch

    2. Schizophrenia with 2nd person commanding auditory hallucination or depression with suicidal ideation.....

His relatives should have carried him to a psychiatric hospital while they are fasting and praying for him....the fact that he was taken to a church doesn't mean he can participate fully in the prayer session God answers prayers and would still use the doctors too.
      May his soul RIP

  2. This religious madness has gone too far in Nigeria!

General overseers and others in the church hierarchy go for periodic medical checkup abroad.

Brainwashed followers will carry their family members to churches for illnesses as serious as mental issues. I hope they are happy now that they've indirectly killed the disturbed man.

Trust the Police PRO to hear of this one since its open and close!

    2. Serious matter. I saw a picture of his lifeless body online. He was neatly dressed. Well, he had just his trousers on and it looked quite neat. I thought he was on his way to work. This is sad, really pathetic. A lot of people are suffering from gross depression.

    5. You are so stupid to blame this on any church. How many mentally ill people in the psychiatric hospital has gotten better? And do you know what will happen if they escape from there? Always looking for who to blame for unfortunate incidents. Rubbish.

    6. Spot on. The thing tire me I swear. A pastor behind my house once complained that church members didn't give enough that sunday and was asking them to bring their transport. And he was seriously quarreling with them o.

That's what d whites won't do,immediately their ward start showing any symptoms, they are taken to a psychiatric facility.we all know there is nothing God cannot do but the same God wil be of help after we have helped ourselves first and in this case going first to evaluate how it could be managed in a facility and from there you can invite your cleric to interceed.
