Kofi Annan,Chairman of the Kofi Annan Foundation, is to visit Nigeria from January 12 to 14 2015 to address a conference on the February elections. The conference is being organized by a coalition of Nigerian civil society organisations.
Mr. Annan will deliver the keynote address at the conference, to be held on Tuesday, January 13 in Abuja, based on his work as chairman of the Global Commission on Elections, Democracy and Security and the findings and recommendations of its report, Deepening Democracy: A Strategy for Improving the Integrity of Elections Worldwide.
Mr. Annan will meet with a broad range of Nigeria’s civil society organisations, as well as engage the audience in a question and answer session. He will also be meeting privately with various national stakeholders engaged in the electoral process.
The Kofi Annan Foundation, which Mr Annan chairs, focuses its work on peace and security, sustainable development, human rights and to the rule of law with the aim of helping to create a fairer, more secure world. As part of this work, the Foundation promotes impartial and transparent electoral processes through its Electoral Integrity Initiative. - premiumtimes reportage.
I hope his visit will give Nigeria's political/electoral process some relief
I hope so too. They really need such relief.
ReplyDelete88% waste of time. Even if Jesus comes to address Nigeria on this, what they will do is what must be done. They've made up already.
ReplyDeleteDon't I just love kofi Annan, the former Secretary General of the United Nations .
ReplyDeleteNo wonder he has bagged a Nobel peace price
I hope this aim and objective of the conference will confer a peaceful electoral process.

ReplyDeleteI hope so too,the election shuld come n go self!the drama don too much btwn PDP n APC
ReplyDeleteStellonzo, his visit wil not give any relief to election or political process because corruption has eaten deep into d fabric of our society, it is very hard for any election to be free and fair here without any magomago, it will be difficult to see change in nigeria because most Nigerians dnt want change, forget the government now, there are ppl who hold this country to a ransom. As simple as having stable electricity in Nigeria, there are ppl who have the contracts to supply generators to d country nd who own refineries and they feel they would lose if there's stable electricity in d country cos they wnt b able to supply generator or fuel.. Some Nigerians are d reason we are backward and they dnt want change because of what they are benefiting, their own selfish reasons
ReplyDeleteI hope so too.
ReplyDeleteSecurity and sustainable development is much needed in our dear country.
ReplyDeleteThey should listen and I hope this helps atleast..
His visit will not change anything, the heat will be too much for him to handle
