Doctors In House Section On Tuesday.

Oh dear,oh dear.........

PROBLEM ONE
PUBERTY AT 6YEARS

Hi Stella,
Please help me put this in your 'Doctors In House Section' maybe I can get valuable suggestions from blog visitors on what to do:

My daughter is 6 (not 7 till August).

I noticed my daughter having dark hair on her vagina and pimples on her face.
I have read a few bits and pieces which say puberty is normal from age 9-12 sometimes as early as 8, but 6!!!

We went to the hospital and they have done series of tests (Blood, Xray and scan)..No obvious cause was found.

Does anyone have any experience of this. Is there any natural thing I can do to delay puberty??..Please help I feel a bit lost.

what!!!...Oh dear,oh dear...

I pray God gives you the grace to deal with this situation but please do not try to alter anything so that you do not spoil anything.
Puberty at 6 years? Oh dear oh dear!!!

    1. Poster most times it genetic. Its an obvious sign she'll start menstruating really early. There are drugs and sprays you can use to stop her hormones from developing but you can't say what that'll do to he young system. Left to me I'd say you leave her be and just talk to her about the changes in her body. I remember as early as js1 some girls had already started menstruating and that's 10years, while some like me started in ss1. Don't mess with her system please

    2. I think the artifical food we feed these kids are the cause of their early maturity. Parents should try raising their kids with healthy and organic meals, again it could be a case of one in a million

My dad actually fasted n prayed that I don't get to puberty till am out of secondary school, cos he felt I could be easily tricked by em boys. He said I was so naive and appeared gullible. And his prayers worked, I had to go beg him to reverse his prayers when I got admission into uni still looking like a secondary school girl. I had small boobs, tiny ass/hips, I wasn't looking appealing to any lingering guy, lol.

Thank God today, I look sexy but still petite and looking quite young for my age, could pass for a teenager!

So madam, you too can pray about it just the way by dad did if you're so scared.

I can remember going to the toilet in school to remove my bra cos i felt i was the only one wearing that in school coupled with the Shame it caused me. My dear, i wish i could help you on how to delay puberty in kids. I think you should sit your daughter down and lecture her about sex and how to to overcome the sweet tongue from guys who might want to lure her into having sex with them. Teach her all these on time before she starts seeing her menses to avoid had i known.

Reason being that if truly she is at the stage of puberty, its likely she will start mensurating at 8yrs..I have seen such cases.and I don't need to stress the importance of the sex talk to you.make your daughter understand at this stage that you are her best friend, let her know that she can come to you for any kind of talk or advice about her bodily changes..its a scary thought, yes.just pray for God's guidiance all the way..and still seek medical help in a diff hospital if you can,it may just be some kind of hormonal imbalance afterall..

  50. I typed a lengthy comment and poof it dissappeared. Poster there's nothing to be alarmed about, it's called precocious puberty. Sometime last year, I noticed hair on my 6 yr old daughters vagina while bathing her. I felt as if they poured cold water on my body. I did my research, it's perfectly ok. You can then imagine the horror I felt when she told me one day some months before she turned 7 that she has pains on her breast. I felt it, and yep there was a bud. My 6 years soon to be seven was growing boobs. For now it's just one breast that is prominent, though the other one is beginning to show signs of coming out as well. My advice to you is do not give her any drugs to stall the growth. Chances are she won't even start seeing her period till she's like 10 or 11. Just embrace this phase with her and teach her the right things about her body. Above all, be on guard and shine your eyes. Lots of perverts about.

    Treatment for Precocious Puberty

    such as a tumor
    2. lowering the high levels of sex hormones

In some cases, treatment of an underlying health
problem can stop the precocious puberty from

    Caring for Your Child

Give your child a simple, truthful explanation
about what's happening. Explain that these
changes are normal for older kids and teens, but
that his or her body has started developing a little
too early. Keep your child informed about
treatment and what can be expected along the
    way.
Also be sure to watch for signs that teasing or
    other difficulties associated with precocious
puberty may be affecting your child's emotional
development. Common warning signs to discuss
    with your doctor include:
    poor grades
    problems at school
loss of interest in daily activities
    depression
How you cope with the issue can also determine
how successfully your child will cope. The goal is
to prevent kids from dwelling on sexual
development or developing a poor self-image or
    low self-esteem . To create a supportive
environment, try not to focus your comments on
appearance; instead, offer praise for achievements
in school or sports and support your child's
    participation in other activities.
The important thing to remember is that kids with
precocious puberty can be treated. Doctors can
help them preserve their adult height potential as
well as limit the emotional and social difficulties
they may face from maturing early.

  56. Poster put your mind at rest!
A large study published in the Journal"Pediatric" found that 10% of white girls, 15% of Hispanic girls and 2% of Asian girls start growing breast or experiencing puberty by d age of 7, but that earlier breast development hasn't generally been accompanied by an early first period.

Researchers are still trying to figure out why some girls developing earlier.Typically, girls who go through puberty early fall into two camps, "Girls with diagnosable disorders like central precocious puberty, & girls who simply develop on the early side of the normal curve. "Young girls who are overweight are more likely to enter puberty early than thinner girls"...says Researchers, and also some chemicals, like the flame retardant PBB, can alter a young girl's timing by changing her hormone level.Stress can disrupt puberty timing as well.

Some parents help their daughters train 5k runs, as exercise can help prevent early puberty, others remove hormone-laden milk and meat from their homes, even give supplement intended to help the body balance its hormones. All did not work!

Perhaps the best bet for parents is to be open with their daughters about what happening to their bodies be "BRUTALLY HONEST" yet "KIND", let them know that everyone goes through the awkwardness of puberty at some points-some sooner than others.

Please don't go as far as to use hormone-suppressing drugs, just let it be and continue to educate and guide her on this stage of life she going to pass through.

    *All the very best*

  58. Its weird to know and even more scary because you are with her but I want you to relax. That is God's way of creating her. Stop being panicky and leave her alone. All she needs now is love and when she's a little not older like 10 years start teaching her sex education. Meanwhile, please keep an eye on her very well

  69. Its all this food we eat that causes all this nonsense o.Early puberty is not a disease .its the result of what we put in coupled with the genetic make up of the child.
What you need to start doing right now is sex education .sex educate your child so that men don't mess up with her at all,be more affectionate n ask her questions ,do not shave pubic hair o n do not alter anything about her .Buy cleanser for her for the pimples n please reduce the quantity of the oil on ur food for the sake of this girl.Everything is gonna be alright

  70. Na wa. Hope you don't have any wandering prick in that your house. I wonder how a six year old would try to understand what you mean by sex. Seems too early. But time for you care for her greatly. Before a six year becomes a mother.

  73. Dear poster, please, please and please I'm begging you...do not ' do nothing'.....

There are many reasons precocious puberty especially for ages 5-8 are alarming....

First is that it may be a tumor ( brain)

Even when that is ruled out, it does not mean it is harmful...

What would happen if you leave her like it is is that she will end up bring shorter than her friends cos of the burst of growth she has now ( by the time others are going through puberty, hers would've stalled) it is not yet scientifically proven why it is so

The treatment is to give her a hormonal injection which will slow down her growth to normal...and by the time it is stopped in the next 3 years, normalcy would return to her growth hormones

Pls see a paediatric endocrinologist....this is avoidable ANC has no side effects....

  75. Madam, I was in primary 2 when I started growing hair everywhere including my head (lol) and three of my primary school mate then started their periods in primary 4 and four more followed including myself in primary 5.As for the hair I see no big deal. I remember showing my mum that time and she said "Ehen too much milk and milo." I might be wrong sha but from what I can remember, there was no big deal and I'm not short( 5"8 ) or brain damaged or have any issue of any sort. If it was her period then that's an issue but pubic hair? I don't see a big deal. Calm down there's nothing wrong with your daughter.

  76. She's got a hairy body. I think it's normal just a speedy process...

  77. Madam - if you relax your child's hair, I'll advise you to stop it immediately. Some relaxers are known to contain estrogen mimicking qualities. Increased estrogen in a 6 year old will definitely trigger puberty.

  79. She should be examined by a paediatric endocrinologist. Ask for a referral letter from the hospital you went to. Ask to be referred to a teaching hospital.
