Wednesday News - Money! Money!! Money!!!

Good morning! Here are things you need to know this morning:according to dailypostng.

- About £315 million Abacha loot would soon be returned to Nigeria by the State of Jersey, the biggest territory in the Channels Island. This was disclosed by Mr Michael Birt, the Bailiff of Jersey durig a dinner in honour of Dr Dalhatu Tafida, Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK during a state visit to the Island.
The ones that have been returned by other countries,we havent heard anything of how it was disbursed...or has someone re-embezzled it?

- The Police yesterday disrupted a peaceful protest against incessant Boko Haram killings in the north. The protest was staged by a coalition of youth group under the umbrella of Arewa Liberation Movement in Kaduna. Some journalists covering the protest were assaulted by the anti-riot policemen mobilized to the scene. The march started at about 8:30am at the popular Lugard Hall Roundabout.

-Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has compared President Goodluck Jonathan’s reign with that of the biblical king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, describing Jonathan as a President that patronizes impunity. Soyinka in paper presentation in Lagos discussed Jonathan’s government and the current events in the country, using the title; “King Nebuchadnezzar – The Reign of Impunity.”

- Crisis ensued at the Ebute Meta area of Lagos on Tuesday at the end of a primary election conducted for two candidates of the All Progressives Congress ─ Oladele Adekanye (Lado) and Bashiru Oloto who are aspiring to grab the APC ticket to represent the Lagos Mainland Constituency 1 in the 2015 elections. Four youths were shot dead, while several others were wounded, as 20 vehicles were also vandalised in the ensuing violence.

-The senators agitating for the impeachment of President Goodluck Jonathan have agreed to begin the impeachment process on December 16. One of the Senators spearheading the move in the Senate, Senator Alkali Jajere, disclosed the latest plan on Tuesday in Abuja. He said that the Senators have agreed to commence the process on the said date.

- The Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has alleged that some prison officials must have collaborated with the gunmen that invaded the Ado Ekiti federal prison, asking the Federal Government to investigate the Monday attack on the prison.

- The All Progressives Congress on Tuesday cried out that the Department of State Service, SSS embarked on a second raid on the party’s data centre in Ikeja on Monday night. In a statement by the party through its Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, it said the action of the SSS was the height of lawlessness.

-Stephen Keshi has reportedly been paid the sum of N14million for the past two months, by the Minister of Sports Dr. Tammy Danagogo.
In a move which essentially undermines the NFF’s authority, Keshi has received the said amount for October and November, despite not having any contract with the federation.

“The minister has been paying Keshi directly from the NFF subvention without any input from the NFF,” a source told AfricanFootball.“This cannot be good for the relationship between employer and employee.”
The Big Boss took charge of the AFCON qualifiers against Sudan home and away, before returning to take charge of the last two games against Congo and South Africa.
NFF president Amaju Pinnick has insisted that a new deal has not been agreed with Keshi yet, rubbishing speculations that the coach was now going to earn N7m a month – a N2m raise from his initial contract.“We have not come to an agreement yet (with Keshi),” Pinnick said.

- Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, ASCSN, yesterday, warned the Federal Government to desist from retrenching workers under the guise of austerity measures. The President of the Association and its General Secretary, Bobboi Bala Kaigama and Alade Bashir Lawal, in a statement said any attempt by government to sack workers or reduce their salaries would be resisted.

- A man and his wife were knocked down and killed by a drunken driver in Ode Irele, Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State on Tuesday. Report says three of their grandchildren equally sustained various degrees of injuries as the car ran into them while they were in front of their house at Gbaleju area. The driver of the car, identified as Abisoye Wobo, was allegedly drunk and was returning from a burial ceremony.

Ombatse: Northern Governors present N34m cheque to security operatives’ widows
-Northern Governors’ Forum yesterday presented widows and other family members of the over 70 security operatives killed during the ill fated operation at Alakyo village in Lafia local government area of Nasarawa State, a cheque of N459,407.45 each, totaling N34 million.
The money was part of the N100 million pledged by the Forum during a sympathy visit to the state after the May 7, 2012 tragedy.
At a brief ceremony held at the state Police Command headquarters in Lafia, the state capital, Governor Tanko Al-Makura, said that the amount was meant to cushion the hardship being experienced by the families of the fallen security operatives.
Represented by the permanent secretary, Cabinet Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Ishaq, he stated that the distribution of the cheques followed recommendation by a committee set up by the NGF that the money be distributed equally among the beneficiaries.
Urging the widows not to give up hope, Al-Makura advised them to use the money to carter for their needs and those of their children and wards.
The occasion was witnessed by the state commissioner of police, Usman Yakubu and a representative of the Department of State Services (DSS).

  6. Which way Nigeria? All we keep hearing and reading is billion this, billion that yet the ordinary man on the street has been neglected. The drunken man who killed the couple should be flogged to cast out the spirit of drinking from his destiny. Sad news every time. As for me, I don't want Goodluck Jonathan to win. His head and legs aren't good for Nigeria.

    1. Lol incidentally, someone else likened GEJ to the same king Neb and even Pharaoh a while back. Can't remember who now. But u needed to have seen how the whole cyber space went agog on the matter. All GEJ's official spokesmen and unofficial arm chair critics finished the person. They said it was a curse bla bla. Am yet to hear from either of them now since Soyinka's talk. I like Soyinka's analytical mind so no time for sentiments. They should say their own make we hear. No time to bully anyone into silence
