House Of Reps: Prominent Members Who May Return In 2015

Following the recently concluded primaries for the 2015 general elections across political parties , these are Reps members who may  be returning and those who will not .

The 360-member House of Representatives might have about 60% of its membership returned to the Green Chamber in June 2015 given the waves of
losses recorded by about 40% of the serving members across both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) at the last weekend’s party primaries across Federal Constituencies nationwide.

It is noteworthy that some of the members who will not return to the House in 2015 did not lose their re-election bid through the primaries but either opted out of the race in order to give others chance or bided for higher offices.

In this category are the Speaker of the House, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who would be contesting the governorship seat of Sokoto State on the platform of the APC and his deputy, Emeka Ihedioha, who has also picket PDP governorship ticket in Imo State.

Others are the chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, Solomon Olamilekan (APC, Lagos), Uche Ekwunife (PDP, Anambra) and John Owan Enoh (PDP, Cross River), who have all decided to vie Senate seats in 2015.

Meanwhile, in the case of Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, she decided not to return to the House in order to give others the chance to contest.
There are others like Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, who will not return to the House for vying for the Kano APC governorship primaries. In his case, he will not be part of the 2015 race as he has lost the primaries.

Meanwhile, those who got the nod of their supporters to contest their party tickets include the House leader, Mulikat Akande-Adeola and deputy majority leader, Leo Ogor, who was chosen again to return to the House for Isoko North and South Federal Constituency in Delta State.

The minority leader of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, who is running for a fourth term, won a return ticket at the Surulere Federal Constituency 1 in Lagos State. From Kwara State, the House Committee chairman on media, Zakari Mohammed representing Kaiama/Baruten and Ahman Patigi representing Edu/Patigi/Moro Federal Constituencies were returned unopposed at the APC primaries.

Also, the House Committee Chair on Aviation and member representing Umunneochi/ Isuikwuato Federal Constituency in Abia State, Nkiruka Onyejiocha, won a return ticket for the third term on the platform of the PDP.
Same for her Foreign Affairs Committee counterpart in the House, Nnenna Ukaeje, who also clinched the PDP ticket for Bende Federal Constituency for a third term too.

In Rivers State, PDP returned Kingsley Chinda, the incumbent member representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency, as he was unopposed during the primaries for a possible return in 2015.

In Nasarawa State, Joseph Kigbu defeated three other opponents to clinch the ticket for Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency. While David Umbugadu is to re-contest for Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa/Eggon slot, Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency returned Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo for 2015.

However, findings by LEADERSHIP SUNDAY, have shown that over 200 members of the House won the primaries of their various parties. Recall that after the 2011 general election, only about 100 members of the House out of 360 returned from the 2007 set, a situation which make the latest developments an improvement as majority of the members might return if they scale the final hurdle of the main election in February, 2015.culled
