''You can’t give what you don’t have. A head that can’t produce meaningful lyrics cannot inspire anything meaningful in governance''.- Etctera.
''My dear entertainers who just lost out in your quest for public office, can you please gbe enu e soun so that we can concentrate on the election at hand?
You are the reasons why the youths are only being regarded as the future in a time like this when we are supposed to be the present. Why is it surprising to you that you lost in the primaries? The system has been analytically taking notes of your below the par exploits even within the madhouse we call entertainment industry. Don’t you get it, because you are in the sacred ministry of receiving brown envelopes doesn’t make you qualified to administer or make laws.
In case you haven’t heard, there are so many things to consider before running for public office. I can bet that most of you don’t know the issues that matter to the people of your constituency. Have you asked yourself if you are fit for that constituency? What have you done prior to this time for the people you want to represent? You can’t just wake up one morning and ride on a horse down the streets like Apostle Paul on his way to Damascus and expect to be applauded into the government house?
Have you built up a sufficient resume? Despite what some people would have us believe, a vast majority of successful political careers are built around impressive resumes. Think about your resume objectively. Think about running for office as a job interview. How do you stack up to your likely competition? Don’t you think a prior involvement in your constituency would add some significant padding to your resume? Another question is, are you electable? Are you the best candidate for the job?
This is a question that anyone who wishes the best for his or her people should consider. Is there another potential candidate better suited to run and to serve than you are? Is it possible that your running could do more harm than good to your political ideals and priorities? Is there a better role for you politically? If you’re considering running simply as a way to get involved, maybe there’s another and better role for you.
Wouldn’t your time and money be better spent in supporting another campaign or serving on a local board or advisory committee? We are known as the dancing generation because of the lyrical content of your songs. To say in your interviews that you are running because you want to change the system is a lie from the pit of hell. Haven’t you heard that charity begins at home? What changes have you initiated in this madhouse we call entertainment industry? How many of you musicians seeking public office today have come out to protest against injustice artistes are facing in the hands of the cabals on radio? You are scared of challenging the smaller cabals at the radio stations who demand bribe before playing your songs, what would you do when faced with the ogbologbos in politics?
You can’t give what you don’t have. A head that can’t produce meaningful lyrics cannot inspire anything meaningful in governance. If you can’t stand for anything with your art, then you surely don’t have what it takes to lead. The content of your songs says a lot about your mental capabilities. What are your long term goals? Are you running because you feel that your so-called fame indicates you can win?
Won’t your personal issues affect your constituency adversely? Or you think the people are ignorant? In politics, the stench in your life will always surface eventually even if you’re not willing to release the information yourself.
The masses have listened to your interviews and they know that most of you don’t have the necessary knowledge of the simplest of issues. There’s nothing like a campaign to expose your ignorance about a particular subject. If someone asked you a question about the particulars of an important issue, are you confident that you would be able to adequately answer it? Are you well informed about the bills or proposals currently under discussion in the elected body that you wish to serve in? Are there some important issues where you could legitimately be considered an expert?
Are you presentable? If you’re not presentable, it will have an adverse effect on your campaign. You are from a job district full of people who mostly care about material things. Don’t you know that in politics, when people think your priorities are different from theirs, they will be skeptical about supporting your candidacy?
Most of you entertainers that lost in the primaries would have been political liabilities, not the assets the people crave. Some shameless nollywooders even went as far as citing Arnold Schwarzenegger’s entry into the California governorship race as their inspiration for running but it didn’t cross their minds that Schwarzenegger wouldn’t have been eligible to run for any election in America if he was a member of any organisation as corrupt and confused as the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
Finally, for those entertainers with intentions of seeking public office in 2019 which is just around the corner, now is the time to start working on those areas you need improvement. Get some professional help if necessary. You were booted out this time around because the people don’t trust your intentions. Today, your status says elegushi loading and tomorrow sees you borrow-posing in an exotic car. You are obviously on a mission to loot. It is appalling that some entertainers are beginning to see politics as kalo-kalo and a place where people thrive in mago-mago. The same desperados have over time exhibited their willingness to put their hands in hot ororo as long as they can bring out the dodo. But that dodo has burnt their mouths this time around.
Thieves
ReplyDeleteGbam! Gbammer! Gbammest! Don't I just love this dude. Always serving it hot and bitter. People who can't produce cutting edge movies with Nollywood through their acting and those one hit wonders singing about 'Booties n Titties', 'Kondo', 'Hennesy', 'Swagga', 'Idi Shalewa ati Oyan Morenike' too be clowning up to invade the already shattered Nigerian political space.

ReplyDeleteYour comment will be visible after approval
Ectetera please mind your business.............
ReplyDeleteYou are d reason Nigeria is backward. When Stella gives an opinion on issues u don't tell her to mind her business but some one point out the truth and showing the way for the youth u are telling him to mind his business. Na wa for Nigeria girls oo most of you are as dulling and dump as dry paints.

ReplyDeleteEtcetera, why can't the good Lord make all entertainers disappear and leave just you? Why not? You are the only one above board. No vices or excesses in your pius sanctimonous existence. If you had that stage monopoly, would you gift us with a song?can't your energy be split in several directions? On this article,my submission is that Desmond Elliot won. If that nano percentage is not victory for his primary constituency, which is acting by the way, then your undertanding of politics is limited. Find out how many politicians lost countless times at the polls. A loss by an aspirant or candidate doesn't translate into perceived hate from the electorate. Stop gloating at their defeat, for it makes you sound extra petty! Sing my friend!
ReplyDeleteLol
DeleteI think Desmond worked the hardest amongst his colleagues.
Widey never fails to show her hatred for dis guy...since d day he talked about OAPs..
DeleteI rooted for Kate Henshaw and Desmond Elliot. I feel Desmond is credible.
DeleteI can give Desmond a pass. He's always had a genuine interest. The rest? *scratch head*
DeleteKate, her mum wasn't even in support in the first place, so...
@Wide eyed your comment didn't make sense to me. You ranted but didn't make any salient point.
DeleteWide eyed I agree with u on the basis that Excetera himself has unceremoniously realised his love for pen and paper, albeit surrounds his writeups on entertainers. His prerogative.
DeleteBut wasn't he an entertainer who delved from his "calling" too? What I'm saying is that he is as guilty as the counterparts he's calling out. Though I agree politics in Nigeria has become a sham for school drop outs and those who do not have the tenacity to endure the challenges in thier chosen careers, now seeing politics as a quick way out.
But etcetera, all of a sudden doesn't see non good in any entertainer again. Why? Same for Novia. I just read a chunk of this anyway. *rme*
It seems you widey eyed must be aversed to criticism. The reason you cant stand etc and Novia.
Deletelwkmd. but dis dude write up makes sence oo.
ReplyDeletethe way all them entertainers rushed into politics, made them seem like jokers...in a way tho he is right..let them start the change in their homes bfore cumn public

ReplyDeleteWow.. this is deep!
ReplyDeleteWell said. That's just the truth.
ReplyDeleteThis guy too is another problem we have to deal with in Nigeria. How can one man be this much a sadist that never sees anything good in others? what time do i have to prepare lunch after reading this long epistle?this is not a small something.
ReplyDeletelol
DeleteI wonder o. He's a good writer no doubt. But his hating has become habitually consistent and it has swallowed deep the beauty of his writing prowress.
DeleteProwess* Sisi eko has joined the bandwagon of those that has are sold on the cliche "hate". Tai Solarin and Gani spent almost their entire lives as social critics. Were they "hating" then too. As a well read lawyer you should know it the likes of etc and Novia in this element give the society the needed balance. I am shocked that you can align your thoughts with shallow minded people like chi exotic;who probably just woke up after club crawling from quilox to escape.
DeleteAnonymous 8:14. Thanks for the correction. But Nah dear I didn't join any bandwagon. On the contrary my opinion of this guy was formed in isolation of blog comments. I have managed to read a few of his articles in time past and I found them a bit off the track. However I am not an antagonist of his because he is opinionated about the happenings around him. Like I said earlier he's a bloody good writer. I just find his writeups to be a bit "hateful" as opposed to making a sincere plausible remark that would make the subjects of the matter have a review of his objections. The word "hater" was inevitable I'm sorry.
DeleteBtw Gani remains one of the legendary icons I have an arousing respect for even after his death. Unbeatable.

Mechieonu nwokem, in osho's voice "go n die.
ReplyDeleteWow! I read everything and must say this guy made sense here!
ReplyDeleteNobody is telling you not to contest, but waking up overnight to dabble into politics without at least identifying with your people long before your "dream" is quite deceptive! Makes one wonder what your true motive is...Start by finding out what your constituency needs, today! 2019 is still far in my opinion..you can be the change, only if you do it the right way
He's on point
DeleteHe hit d nail on d head!
DeleteYeeeeh! My bellllleeeee o, I just like this guy's write up any day, any time. Lol@ the ogbologbo in politics n elugushi loading, Lobatan! I don tireeee o. My tummy oooo!
ReplyDeletediz guy self but if u look at it he saying the truth somehow
ReplyDeleteLol...yeye
ReplyDeleteInteresting article!
ReplyDeleteHe made a lot of sense and I believe I believe some of us must have had the same thoughts. What have these entertainers done for their constituency before deciding to run for office? Are they cut out for it and ready to move these constituencies to the next phase or they just want to join those who divert public funds for their private use?
These are questions that needs to be asked, not just by us but within themselves. With the way the country is heading,we need a change and at a very fast pace. Until begin to put our foot down and demand for it, the country will continue at a downward spiral.
This guy eh. Hahaha. The part he said " status showing elegushi loading" got me laughing real hard. But na true talk e yarn here.
ReplyDeleteI like dis guy n charles novia

Your own is just to talk and talk and talk like your name. I have never heard of you working, not to talk of resume. It is so easy to sit on a wall idle and criticize etc abi what is your name? Get a life, start a family and stop bitching. At least they made an effort . You are still bitching. It is on this website we will hear your sugar mummy story because I cannot point to one thing you have achieved. I don't even know who you are. Who is he Abeg???

He is a columnist for Punch newspaper. He is paid to write constructive criicism of the entertainment world. This is a deliberate effort by the paper to correct the illl and mediocrity that has crept into that industry.

ReplyDeleteStells abeg post comments naa. Lol
ReplyDeleteETC, so you are telling me 9ice does not have a brain abi?
ReplyDeleteOr Kate Henshaw?
This guy is just mean. LOL
But jokes apart....9ice resemble who get sense for ur eyes? Dat other one....Tony tetuila nko? Mtscheeeew
DeleteLmao
DeleteKate Henshaw didn't do her home work properly. Cross Riverians do not appreciate "strangers" all up in their business. She should keep it close to home between now and 2019. You can't be in Lagos and expect to win an election in Cross River State.
DeleteSpot on stella!
ReplyDeleteETC always on point. It was jes a mission to follow in chopping Naija's money. If u can't fix ur house (entertainment industry), how can u fix another's? There shld just go and continue with their ukwu bombom songs jor. True the content of ur songs says a lot abt ur mental capabilities. A head that cannot produce any meaningful lyrics, cannot inspire anythg meaningful in governance. Imagine having Flavour Nabania or Peter and Paul as ur senator?
ReplyDelete*lips sealed and watching*
Etcetera dem go soon find u come ur house lol, wen writing articles, stop d name calling and obvious finger pointing.. U have got lots of enemies now because of this ur articles
ReplyDeleteBia excetera abi wetin be your name sef,in as much as I think ure a kermit..this 'You can’t just wake up one morning and ride on a horse down the streets like Apostle Paul on his way to Damascus and expect to be applauded into the government house?' ReplyDeleteStory time...
ReplyDeleteNice write up and it make lot of sense.
ReplyDeleteYea it does make alot of sense...4once i totally agree wv him
DeleteNigeria politics still be kalo kalo and na mago mago be their trade mark. If Nigeria entertainers wan join politics dey get right too.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with him, this time around. Last sentence made in his write up got me laughing. I hope we get to learn something from this
ReplyDeleteRayjay
The ever so controversial etcetera..me thinks etcetera is this bitter cos he is a failed musician..in other news,I can't wait for sunday's giveaway.need to be a recipient like a fish needs water..lord hv mercy!

ReplyDeleteNo be small thing ooo!
Hehehehe…Very true..
ReplyDeleteTruest talk etcetera..
ReplyDelete9ice doesn't even deserve to go there. He just doesn't. Then toni payne would want to come back! I like the fact that desmond won,the only person I would have had to win is kate henshaw! The rest should go and sleep!
ReplyDeleteLMAO @ Riding down the street on a horse like Apostle Paul on his way to Damascus..hahahahhahaha I can't!
ReplyDeleteHe's so on point! Politics in Nigerian has become a joke. Every one wants to join. We'll keep adding unqualified public office holders to the jokers we already have there. Most of these entertainers running for office can't even spell constituency. What a joke
ReplyDeleteVery True
ReplyDeleteSo I'm the only who didn't finish reading?
ReplyDeleteHian!
Etcetera abeg you sef need Jesus. Failed, clueless imbecile.
He sat down to compose an excellent article from start to finish. You on the other hand cannot sit down and read the article from start to finish. Who is now the imbecile?

Etcetera is cray mehnnn...
article on major point!
As in eh!
Deleteme need voices like this guy and charles novia to correct the social decadence in our society.how i wish we would have more in various sectors of nigeria.the truth is that nigerians dont like hearing the truth.when pple point the ills in the society, you will hear nigerians saying 'he is has failed as a muscian or producer.or cant be counted to have achieved this or that.at least, they have not failed in their write ups.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm...you made some valid points.
ReplyDeleteBut I hope you don't come out tomorrow with some "political stunts" of your own.
