Baby Falls Off Mum’s Back On Okada Crushed By Truck

A heavy duty truck, conveying crates of soft drinks, yesterday, at the Okorodafe Roundabout in Ughelli, Delta State, crushed a four-month-old baby girl, who had fallen off the back of her mother travelling on a commercial motorcycle, popularly known as Okada.

According to witnesses, the mother of the baby, who is in her 30s and simply identified as Ese, was said to have been struggling to adjust the wrapper with which she strapped the baby to her back, while the Okada was in motion.

One of the witnesses, identified as Efemena Okiemute, told Vanguard that the baby fell on the middle of the road and was immediately crushed by the truck, which was directly behind the Okada.

When Vanguard visited the scene, officials of Ughelli Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, were seen clearing the remains of the dead baby from the road.

whenever I see women and kids on a bike, I feel bad. Dear God please bless my husband and I with the resources to adequately take care of our babies.

    9. This story has vexed my bones... women have bn told severally to stop carrying babies on their back while on bikes. Jst d oda day a baby was rushed to d hospital where I wrk. Wat happened was that his mother put him on a baby carrier ON HER BACK n didn't knw dt one of d ropes was dangling n b4 they knew it (cos they were on d high way), d rope entered d wheels n boom d baby fell off n hit his head on d floor + dey moved a lil distance b4 they even knew wat happened. To cut d story short,,, d baby died in d theatre afta d doctors tried everything to save d baby... His mum strtd acting like she had lost her senses. Bad news

    2. Everyone around me knows how much I detest any mother who puts her child on okada. I can't count the number of times I have stopped bikes, or chased after bikes that is carrying a woman with a child on her back, or with a toddler cramped on an okada. I always take it personal and I become so confrontational that people wonder what the fuss is about. Here's the reason. How on earth, for crying out loud? I know the less privileged have no choice but then....i feel pity and anger at the same time. gosh

This is one of the many reasons I can never back a baby. I hate it and I have never tried it.
I always say it's too risky.
It's better to use a good baby carrier to carry the baby in your front. That way, you can easily support the baby with your hands.
Why enter bike with a baby?
Well, no need to blame the woman, I'm sure she didn't anticipate this.

I feel so sorry for her. I can't bear to imagine the agony she is in right now.
      Rest in peace dear Angel.

Wrapper wey she use back me com cut God saved me because i fell in another man's car bonnet that was how i lived up till now. I would have been a past tense by now. But to God be the glory. Mommy learnt the lesson since then she never backs any of her kids behind. Rather it be in front..
