Argentine Town Bans Beauty Pageants And Replaces Them With 'Community Awards'

A town in Argentina has become the first in the country to ban beauty pageants, passing a new ruling which will see the annual contests replaced by awards for those who have contributed the most to their community.

Chivilcoy, a soya farming town of 60,000 people in Buenos Aires province, 100 miles east of the capital, passed the ruling unanimously.

"These beauty contests between girls, teenagers and young women reinforces the idea that women should only be valued and prized for their physical appearance," the text of the new ruling stated.
It said that the pageants, popular across South America, were based on "stereotypes, promoting in many cases an obsession with body shape and a physical ideal which can never be achieved."

The politicians who approved the ban added that such tournaments encouraged eating disorders such as bullemia and anorexia.
"Beauty is not quantifiable. Therefore, to qualify and organise a competition based on this is discriminatory and violent," they said.

They said that from now on, the pageants will be replaced by a competition for women aged 15 to 30, to assess who has contributed the most to their community.culled

*African beauty queens dont have such disorders, lol

  31. What do you mean you this blackberry girl. Bcos you are fat of you have a fat ass doesn't mean girls who are slim are not adorable. We slim girls rock well. Our stature, shape, size can be accepted in any part of the world. All clothes we wear tend to fit us, we are always happy people. The beef u big or fat girls have for these slim girls these days is too much. Is it our fault that we can still retain our shapes and not be careless like u fat girls, even after birth we don't become obese we become normal sizes and our husbands still get attracted to us. I am not a fan of starving urself to be slim but if u are lucky to be slim and that's your nature pls love it cos its happiness on its own a lot of girls are looking to shared their weights. Thank you

  33. And to all of you that are condemning beauty pageants. The bible even showed us that there was a beauty contest in the bible in the time of Esther. I think all of you who are condemning it are never qualified for any of the pageants that's why you all are beefing. If you have won any pageant or your sister has won any I bet you won't be here condemning it. They win lots of money, cars and beautify themselves more. At least they achieve stuffs from it. It's just mere beef because you all wish you were in their shoes cos they look pretty even after winning. Lots of enjoyment, travelling round the world and all. What have you all achieved since you were born. Stop the hate, if u want to be a beauty queen go get the form and stop hating.

  34. Great idea, now if only it will be accepted and promoted globally.

  35. I hope this new development will be mirrored by other countries.

  36. I must confess that the outrageous number of beauty contests these days have me flummoxed.

For Christ's sake, there should be something other than the over-hyped appreciation of a woman's physique.
