Women across Africa are coming together in the UK, to chart a new cause for the development of communities and individuals within the continent. The event coming up between 24th and 28th November 2014 is jointly organised by Women and Youth Empowerment Network (WOYEN) and Network for Development, a development training facilitation partnership between ICONNECTUK Ltd and Mulirahd Group in Dubai and Nigeria.
WBC is a development intervention project with an initial five-year plan aimed at mobilising and enhancing the capacity of women and other stakeholders in building African communities through increased and effective women involvement.
Woyen has noted that the goal of this five-year plan is to "Achieve Community Development in Africa led by Inspired and Skilled women. The organization along with other partners shall be working within these five years..
Woyen will be celebrating role models at the dinner award nights and the recipient's are as follows; Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Her Excellency Dame Abimbola Fashola, Her Excellency Mrs Roli Uduaghan, Hon Mulikat Adeola Akande, Her Excellency Mrs Olufunsho Amosun and others...

Emotional torment,still manage to raise kids from slums without them resorting and succumbing to bad vices.i opened this post cos I was interested and wanted to identify and be part of but when I saw their award nominees......SMH

ReplyDeleteThe Women Building Communities aim to inspire, motivate and empower women in African communities to be involved in community development projects and to persuade African women in Diaspora and those in key/leadership positions to support these women by working with them on projects that will bring about positive changes to the lives of ordinary people within communities, address issues affecting women, youths and MDGs.
It therefore, makes sense to involve the wives of present and past governors as these are women in key/leadership positions.
Aside from these women, we will also be awarding some women who have contributed to community development but have not be identified and recognize by society.
All these are in line with our aim to inspire and motivate women to actively participate in the development of their communities and empower them with necessary resources to be able to achieve.
WOYEN UK,You can't blame us for being skeptical.
DeleteHowever,there are women in other industries(politics has become an industry in my opinion) who have actually worked and toiled.I'm sorry,while your motive might be well intentioned,some of the women mentioned above aren't the ordinary woman on the streets idea of a role model.
I know the organization must raise funds hence the political nominations but please,dare to be different.
I also I'm calling your attention as to why WOYEN cannot meet in any of the African countries.I'm yet to see where topics and issues pertaining to Europe,USA,Asia etc is held In Africa.
I however will apologize and stand corrected if this is pointed out to me.

Why Uk? That is a very good question indeed.
ReplyDeleteOur choice of London as the venue for the event is in line with achieving our goals of enhancing the community development skills of our participants. We believe that exposing African community women to developed communities will not only motivate and expose them to possibilities but will also help to unlock hidden potentials, since visual aids to convey ideas even more effectively by providing people with certain elements that classroom notes or text cannot fully convey.

DeleteThat said,except woyen is picking the bills for the rural participants that need to be "exposed" to a developed community (London),I believe anyone that can afford to get to UK on their own finances is already visually (maybe not mentally) exposed.

I think the choice of London is because the organisation is based there and we should try and appreciate the fact that some African women in the diaspora are taking these giant strides to eradicate poverty among their fellow African women.
