Imo Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere has blamed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the delay in the ongoing Continuous Voters' Registration exercise occasioned by faulty machines and logistic problems.
Imo Deputy Governor at Umudagu-Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State during a monitoring tour of Continuous Voters' Registration Exercise (CRV) yesterday.
In Mbaitoli Local Government, the home of the deputy governor, there were large turnout of people but the few capturing machines were either slow or totally out of service, thereby slowing down the registration process.
Prince Madumere expressed regret and described the incidence as unfortunate saying it was frustrating for people to turn out en mass to exercise their civic rights only to be kept in the Sun for no justifiable reason of faulty machines, and logistics problems
He further observed that it is inadequate for INEC to provide only one machine in a ward, showing the unpreparedness of INEC for the exercise. "People have waited for this time but only to get frustrated", he enthused
At Umudagu and Ezinihitte both in Mbieri in Mbaitoli Council Area of the State, the situation was worse as aggrieved indigenes accused INEC of systematically disenfranchising them.
Prince Madumere who monitored the exercise therefore called on INEC to quickly address the issue by deploying enough machines that are in good working condition to different wards in the State.
In their response, the Ad hoc Staff present attributed the delay and shaky commencement to lack of sustainable power to run the machines and the malfunctioning of the machine as in some cases they don't capture at all.
Thats the dark side of voting, excuses here n there
