Welcoming you to its “Customer Promise” webpage, the above (honey-coated) tagline is what sums up the feeling Hyundai Motors Nigeria Limited promises to give you when you do business with it- unforgettable experience. And truly, based on reports of those who have ‘stayed’ with Hyundai service, the tagline can be said to be one promise Hyundai Motors Nigeria Limited is observing in breaches.
Hyundai Elantra 2014 |
It is alleged that the automobile company has seen its net profits plummet
quarter after quarter in 2014. The South Korean company has attributed the nosedive to some economic factors. One contributory factor, which the company has succeeded in shielding from the public is its pitiable customer service.
Its profit decline, especially in Nigeria, has much more to do with lack of customer’s confidence and satisfaction in its service than economic reasons.
Staying with Hyundai service has truly brought about an unforgettable as well as unforgivable experience since some aggrieved customers fell for its gimmick in June 2014.
According to investigations by TheCapital, complaints from customers of Hyundai Motors Nigeria abound, the most recurring being the issue of servicing of vehicles.
When Hyundai Motors Nigeria Limited commissioned an ultramodern 3s (service, sales and spare parts) facility and skill acquisition centre valued at more than N500m in Orile,Amuwo-Odofin in May this year, it did so with pageantry and a telling promise that its after sales customer service experience would witness visible improvements.
The harrowing experiences of its customers were becoming loudly scandalous that the company could not go on with pretence of not knowing that it was losing customers in droves due to it's abysmal customer service.
Without mincing words, customers of Hyundai vehicles were enlivened with the show the auto ‘giant’ put up while many others, were cajoled into believing it was a new vista at Hyundai Motors Nigeria. Its showrooms across the state became a mecca of some sort for customers who wanted vehicles whose service delivery after sales would come handy when occasion demanded. Buoyed by this feeling, customer A, who pleaded anonymity, dashed to one of its Lagos showrooms sometime in June this year to a buy (car specifications).
Unfortunately, a month after the purchase, the car was crashed in an accident which heavily dented the car.The car was taken to its “ultramodern facility” in Orile by customer A who was able to secure funds for its repair from his insurance company having regularised all documentations (registration, insurance, etc.) concerning the car.
According to the customer A, whose car, Hyundai Elantra with registration number LSD60AA, "I bought my car in June this year and I had an accident with the car, I took the car to the company (Hyundai) and my Insurance, Mansaad Insurance paid them the full amount. I was told the car would be fixed in two weeks. Two weeks have become four months, and nothing has been done about the car. Each of my visits to the place has left me with one form of frustration or the other. No work has been carried out on the car. It is either they come up with unavailability of spare parts or various flimsy excuses that speak volumes of their inefficiency.
It has been a very frustrating experience having to go through what I have gone through in the hands of Hyundai.I will be detailing my lawyer with this harrowing experience to take the next step;” says customer A.
Grievances have also continued to trail its centenary offer in partnership with Diamond Bank Plc.
The Hyundai and Diamond Centenary Offer is a vehicle finance scheme aimed at assisting fleet managers and prospective automobile patrons to procure affordably priced Hyundai vehicles.
The scheme, which was inaugurated in August, was designed to enable its clients to access the scheme without necessarily paying conventional bank interest rate.
Customer B who expressed his grief, says he has had to confront mechanical issues since he took the delivery of the car apart from hidden charges which were not clearly stated as terms required for the offer.

ReplyDeleteNa wah, big car big wahala.
I don't care. I just love Hyundai cars.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised to read all these negative comments about Hyundai o!my accent 2014 model is a super cool car and I've had it for a year now,and I have received nothing but first class customer service at their service centre in Orile...I hope the improve in their services to others as for me its Hyundai all the waaaaay!
DeleteOnly in Nigeria will such negligence be allowed to go Scott free without sanctions.
ReplyDeleteThey are rubbish people...There customer service is 7ero...Road side mechanic is better than them...
ReplyDeleteI want to sell there car. Sef just a year old...
They always say they don't have spare parts.
Omo ibo for Ladipo market sef get the parts..

Hyundai elantra 2012...hmmm!it was ok somehow cos why should one expect so much from a baby car company like hyundai,i only went for that elantra cos it was d sleekest car they have ever made,it stood out everywhere!but from day one we took delivery it had horn problem,a year later they key started acting up,at 2yrs the brake pad, shaft all started acting up,and as usual always when u go to demand replacement under warranty, they will be dribbling u and wasting ur time till u go fix it urself!got tired, and I have let d car go.the company no try abeg, but as I said, what does one expect from a baby company, its not their fault but mine, for loving sleek looking things'.
ReplyDeleteBtw 2014 is even a failure,so why won't they crash, tthey are not crious.
funny thing is that my first car ever was a Hundai elantra. It wasn't brand new o, got it from auction sef as a student. Less than $1,000 if I remember well. Buttttttttt....it served me well until it started to act up. that's how every mechanic I went to kept saying, oh shitty car, no good, this and that. Imagine something u dey worship then someone just talking down on it like that. So every time they patched up a repair for me, it would only last me a week or two and the same thing would happen again. That car could jerk for Africa. It was frustrating. So was so surprised when in Nigeria I saw that people loved Hundai cars. Then I was told it's usually used as company cars cos they were cheaper. But they can be cute o. Their mini Suvs I see around are nice.
DeleteWith this report now I don't quite understand. Anyway Hondas and Toyotas remain the boss Abeg
Was thinking it was almost towing the line of Toyota who always seem to have issues with their braking systems and having to recall a lot of their cars. Oga take them to court. That's the only language that will speed up their asses to work on your car.
ReplyDeleteOk o. Koreans and shrewd way of doing business. The same with kia motors oo. To service car they charge nothing less than 30k. Abeg I go to my road side good mechanic to service my car for just 7k. I can't shout. I only change parts from their office.
ReplyDeleteOk
ReplyDeleteJust wondering, is this a paid advert by an aggrieved customer or competitor? Hian! Abeg, Stella post in house news joor.
ReplyDeleteAll this Hyundai and kia are rubbish cars, they are cheap to buy but when it is time for maintenance or if they have faults, they reap you off when you go to buy parts. They do that in Nigeria but can't try that in Europe.
ReplyDeleteKia that ordinary breeze can control ontop bridge. Worse of all.
DeleteDat means dey r using us to do ojoro na.
ReplyDeleteWell what do we expect? We are in a country where anything goes. Chinese people will brutalise and abuse their workers anyhow , koreans extorting us. What can I say more grease to their wicked elbow.
ReplyDeleteNa wa! Shinko sef come here deh play us local 419
ReplyDeleteSleekest car
ReplyDeleteI hate Korean cars. They are 100% fiber.
ReplyDeletei have a court case with Hyundai since 2011. They are fully aware that the Nigerian system allows for mediocrity so they are milking it. I bought Hyundai i10 in 2010, it started malfunctioning less than 2months after purchase, they tried to fix it , bla bla i eventually collected my car from the maintence workshop so as not to become broke from taking cabs. I reported them to SON and eventually decided a court action. I am hoping the Nigerian Legal system will prove that we are not push overs.
ReplyDeleteIs anybody regulating the industry? what do you expect? They all troop here, blind the authorities with bribes then settle down to rip all of us off.
ReplyDeleteCome & see the way they treat their Nigerian staff especially the ones that work in the steel industries!
Hahahahahahaha....as in...very funny
ReplyDeleteHmmm, Stella, how does 2 customer experiences represent the views of the other thousands of satisfied customers!??? Haba!
ReplyDeleteYou do need to stop all this paid or propaganda stuff. It leaves a bad taste for your readers.
I will never buy cars from Indian Companies representing any auto giant here in Nigeria. Indians are shrewd business people and will always take advantage of our archaic and slow legal system.
ReplyDeleteI pity those who will buy the made in Nigeria cars. These cars have not gone through any safety tests nor procedures whatsoever. Don't be surprise the steering pulls off while driving.
In Nigeria, anything goes. The authorities will rather collect bribes than regulate the industry.
