Falana Advises IG Of Police To Resign

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, has advised the acting Inspector General of the Police, Suleiman Abba to resign his appointment as the nation’s police boss if he knows he cannot discharge his duties impartially.
Falana listed the indisciminate arrest of APC leaders in Osun during the August 9
election in the state, the ban of public protests embarked upon the Bring back our girls campaigners and the unlawful withdrawal of the security details attached to the Speaker of the House of Representatives as some of the glaring infringements committed under Abba’s watch.
Falana, in a letter to the acting IG, stated that he would be left with no option than to approach the Federal High Court to determine Abba’s suitability for the office of IG if he does not withdraw his statements on the Speaker...Dailypost report

    1. I have mixed feelings about the road block issue. No doubt they constitute a nuisance by causing traffic and doing beggy beggy. Even a thief or BH can scale tru their rubbish road blocks without hindrance. However, I think when thieves know they are on road blocks they tend to avoid the route, thus saving the neighbourhood from being attacked in some cases. Falana and Tunde Bakare share a striking resemblance to me though. Even their mannerisms and principles.

    2. @ Sisi eko. I was almost robbed on falomo bridge (in bound v/i side), in traffic caused by a police checkpoint. This happened 10-15 feet approaching the check point. Thankfully it was not very thick traffic so I was able to slam on my accelerator when the thief was still banging on my window and yelling for me to bring me phone. Shows how scared he was eh?

    3. Thank God for u o. I know the spot u mean. That's the negative side to their road blocks. That's if they don't connive to perpetrate evil most times.

    1. Falana is a neutral lawyer. It's just not right witch hunting some people. Tambuwal isn't the first person to cross carpet. Besides the constitution isn't against him. There's no point witch hunting the opposition.

    1. Unfortunately, whether we agree or not, it's what the constitution states in Section 68(1)(g). Is he the only one? No. But as the speaker of the house, Tambuwal should know better. He was trying to eat his cake and have it. The question really is did the IG act prematurely? Unfortunately, in Nigeria our leaders flount the laws as stated in the constitution with such impunity! GEJ-Yaradua saga, gov. Suntai, constitution clearly states if that governor or president has been deemed to be not of sound mind he should vacate. Anyways, no be their fault. We just don't know our rights.

  7. I now see road blocks everywhere? Are they back on our roads? Tambuwal is not a criminal and he has not committed any crime, it clealy shows that our security agencies are compromised and very unprofessional. The presidency should please grow up. The court ruled today that Tambuwal remains the speaker. Lets see what the IG will do since his new portfolio is to interprete the constitution.
