LACTATING WITHOUT A REASON
I have been lactating for 2 months now and I'm not even pregnant plus i've never done any abortion before. I'm 26 and not married, been to the hospital and I was placed on bromocryptine,but no improvement at all.
It's getting me seriously worried Becos I heard it could lead to infertility. Please I need advise on what to do,

N I have a solution for ladies with vaginitis or bactaria infection or candida. Garlic and aloevera. I didn't mind the smell of garlic but I took half glove a day sprayed my expensive perf and I planted aloe vera so every morning I go get fresh ones. Then I took all those forever living suplements especially royal jelly. It works like magic. The first day I took it I realised that the scrtching and smell stopped.

I am a mother of three, used to use withdrawal method and it walked for years until suddenly hubby didn't withdraw and it resulted in child number 3. I tried condom and just like u said it was painful so my doctor advice me to fix an IUD. That way u get to do skin to skin with DH and it can easily be removed when u are ready for the next mini u. No complications. Pills, injections, implants aren't for everybody cos they are fattening and it could entirely change ur hormones and affect ur chances of getting pregnant when u are ready. Pls discuss with the family planning people. They are on a better position to advice u. Good luck.

DeleteBeen through this kind of issue it is caused most time if you allow your bf suck your breast i really can't say what i used to stop mine but the i know i stopped my bf from sucking my breast. Why it causes infertility is that a signal is been sent to your brain that you are breastfeeding so the hormones that should make you ovulate wont work for now.

It's un ethical.... There are different causes of galactorrhea what if her cause is different from yours? Then she takes a drug you a non health practioner prescribes.. I av always ignored it because I thought it wasnt a problem, till I read it could cause infertility. I visited d doctor and was placed on bromocryptine, and also asked to do a hormonal profile test.d prolactin level was found to be high. been using d drug for close to 2 months as well, but durin dis time I always press d nipple to check if it will still come out, just to know if d drug workin. But I read online just last week dat pressing d nipple during treatment can worsen d situation. So I have stopped doin dat and I just want to take d drugs for another one month or so b4 I check. Am 23 and I av neva been pregnant...even tho I av had unprotected sex. scary!!

This hormone stimulates uterine contractions and kicks lactation into high gear within days after giving birth.
However, sometimes lactation happens when you are not pregnant or breastfeeding. This milky white discharge from the breasts is known as galactorrhea, and it is usually a sign of an underlying problem, such as a disorder of the pituitary glands or a side effect of some medications. Interestingly enough, it doesn’t just affect women – in some rare circumstances, men and even infants can suffer from the condition. If you are lactating without pregnancy, there are a variety of reasons why, as explained below.
How to Diagnose Lactating without Pregnancy
In order to offer the appropriate treatment for galactorrhea, a doctor must first confirm whatever underlying cause there might be for lactation without pregnancy. This usually begins with a thorough physical examination, during which the discharge might be collected as a sample to test, and the doctor will look for signs of thickened breast tissue, inflamed or enlarged mammary glandsand any lumps. To help in the diagnosis, a doctor might turn to MRI, mammography, and blood tests. A pregnancy test is done as well, just to rule out the possibility for a woman who is lactating without an apparent pregnancy.
Galactorrhea is associated with a milky white discharge; if the discharge is anything other than this, it indicates something more serious, and that requires further testing. However, even if the discharge seems exactly like breast milk, it always pays to get the situation checked out – it could be a sign of an underlying problem that might get worse over time without appropriate treatment.
Medical Treatments
There is no one particular treatment for galactorrhea, as the treatment path depends upon the underlying cause. For instance, if it is a tumor causing the problem, it might be treated with medicine or surgery – fortunately, the vast majority of tumors that cause this symptom are not cancerous and shouldn’t cause any long-term problems.
If the problem is traced back to a certain medication, your doctor might recommend stopping the medication and taking something different. In this case, the lactation will go away gradually, and will leave no lasting problems.However, until the lactating goes away, there are a few things you can do to help ensure that it doesn’t get any worse. Always avoid stimulating your breasts in any way, including no touching during sexual activity. Continue doing self-breast exams to check for lumps, but only do this once per month. Avoid any clothing that fits tightly around the breasts, or anything that causes friction, such as running while wearing clothing that allows the breasts to slip back and forth against it. And always follow any other instructions your doctor might offer.

DeleteDon't stress yourself if your baby doesn't want to nurse. My baby is 8 months old now, he stopped nursing at 3 months. I had breast pump and was expressing my breastmilk and giving him but he doesn't take it as much as he takes formular, my milk production reduced drastically, I continued giving him formular. He didn't suffer teething at all, infact I just saw the 1st 2 teeth, no purging and he didn't run a temperature. He's 8 months old now and has 6 teeth, he cannot walk but he can stand and his legs start shaking he falls down again.

My baby stopped at 4 months, I used electric breastpump for another month till I stopped lactating. My baby is healthy and chubby. He's very strong and active. Please don't get yourself worried. Make sure you give formula foods in the right proportion. Too much could cause constipation and too little could lead to malnutrition. You baby will be fine...

DeleteUr medicine did not work cuz u didn't read all about the infection and what can cause it...so even if u take lots of medicine and still expose yourself to what can cause it, u will still have it despite the medication so therefore avoid eating any kind of sugary food or sugary drinks, avoid SUGAR!! Cuz yeast grows very fast in sugary conditions especially if you've had it before. Avoid wearing tight pants and tight trousers, u need to allow breeze blow that place and wear only cotton pants plus don't wear pants at night when u wantu sleep. Then while you're on medication, soak ur pant for some hours with hot water and dettol to kill d yeast on ur undies so as to avoid re-infection... And wash ur privates with jux water and take plenty of yoghurt with lactic culture(farm fresh) cuz it contains good bacteria and it will replace the good bacteria in ur vijay and this bacteria will help to fight the yeast and keep it in check and prevent overgrowth.... U can try using vagina tab (candid v6) , insert one at night for 6nights deep into the vagina..... Or u can go to the hospital and run another swab/hvs test and take the medications they give you and do all these other things I've told u to do.... It works, I've been there, done that and I've been yeast free ever since!

When I was still in d university, toilet disease almost killed me, canestine insertion drugs and cream was my best friend, one day i was going to d pharmacy to buy canestine , I saw a Woman outside d pharmacy playing with her daughter, I just made one comment, ur daughter is very cute and she said thank u, j went inside to get my drugs and cream, as I was coming out she called me aside, I think she saw what I bought, she told me dat yeast infection will still re-occur,. That I should wash my pants with hot water and salt, and I should go back inside d pharmacy and buy panty liners, that it will help me alot, dat she is d pharmacist wife and dat she had dis same problem during her schooling days. My sis since then, almost 9yrs now, I don't have dat yeast infection again, but I still use my liner, it keeps me fresh and clean. I no be doctor, it is something dat helped me. Thank me later

DeleteWhile going through the Rx regimen your doctor gave, I suggest you change all the undies you have been using, as in discard them and purchase new ones. Most females have this habit of washing their panties as the shower and dry them indoors. Feels weird to me tho. Anyway, if you are one of those, then please start sundrying your undies, give them hot water therapy once in a while or bleach for the whites...telling you to use gynotrosyd and canesten cream is me prescribing and Dr Orela will skin me. Toni you may want to change the breastfeeding style you use...try football style (google it if not clear) . You should know that babies change at anytime moreover 4months is a time most babies experience the "regression" phase. He/she will eventually resume sucking when that is done. Wish you all the best. ReplyDeleteIt's caused by a condition called hyperprolactinaemia meaning excess prolactin in d blood. Prolactin is a hormone produced in a small gland in d brain called the pituitary gland and it is responsible for d let down of milk.
ReplyDeleteIt could b caused by something as 'simple' as stress or as 'sinister ' as a tumor of the pituitary gland. It's best to get urself thoroughly checked by a gynaecologist.
Bromocriptine is a drug meant to suppress d production of prolactin. If it isn't working, it might mean dat d dose is insufficient for d levels of prolactin being produced.
Go see a doctor.

Being married to the love of my life for a year now but we haven't had sex,cos he cums at the mention of the word 'sex' n that ends it for the day.

U have hyper prolactin, which is a sign of hormonal imbalance, bromocriptine will arrest it after sometime. The Dr should have done hormonal assay on u before placing u on that, so that after a while ur prolactin level can be assessed to know if there is as an improvement or not. Continue with the medication, it will dry up. Some people have to take as many as 10 bottles while some take just 1.

ReplyDeleteDear poster, first be rest assured that you are not alone infact i'm the same age as you are. I noticed mine about 2years ago. Like some people rightly pointed out, lactating is as a result of excess prolactin however i'll advice you see a doctor in order for them to identify the underlying cause and yes depending on the underlying problem it could cause infertility. A specialist doctor- an endocrinologist to be precise is the one that manages this type of case.
In my case, after running series of blood tests I went on to do an MRI scan and the underlying cause of mine is a pituitary tumor- microadenoma. Its none cancerous but its important to monitor the growth, determine the type and appropriate medication to shrink it or surgery to remove it. I wouldn't prescribe what drug to take to you cause its important that you see a doctor. I was prescribe a first medication but my body reacted to it and my doctor has since changed it, i'm due for another MRI scan next year to see if there's been any reduction in the size of the tumor. So far on most days I'm fine sometimes i'm not, because the condition has to deal with your hormones, mood swings is top of my list for side effects.
Not knowing initially is scary but a clear understanding of the problem is easier to manage. I'm sending you a big E-hug and do let us know how you get along. It is well with you dear.

However you need to stop squeezing on your nipples or letting your boyfriend suckle it.
Suckling/squeezing confuses the brain as it thinks there's a baby feeding and encourages production of more milk.

Bromocriptine does work but u may have to take it for a long time like 6wks b4 any reasonable effects. You didn't say if u did hormone profile b4 starting the meds. Elevated prolactin can cause failure of ovulation and by extension infertility.
