The Tony Obuh Campaign Organisation has dismissed propaganda claims by Kenneth Gbagi, a governorship aspirants that he is not a card carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party, saying it is sad that people who should know are distorting the truth to fester their selfish interests.
Reacting to a statement by an aspirant, Kenneth Gbagi who claimed all aspirants have ganged up against Sir Tony Obuh, Director-General of Obuh’s campaign organisation, Chief Fred Majemite dismissed claims of gang-up explaining that his Principal has been a card carrying member of the PDP since 2011 and that Mr Obuh has been active in the affairs of the party.
Chief Majemite appealed to Deltans and the public to ignore the falsehood being propagated by Mr Gbagi.
Part of the statement released in Asaba Monday by Chief Majemite reads:
“Despite the consistent calumnious tirades against our Principal, Sir Tony Obuh, we will not engage in acrimonious campaign against any aspirant to the office of the Governor of Delta State. While our Principal is being vilified, slandered, blackmailed, libelled and defamed, we are focussed on getting the delegates who will, by the Grace of God, elect him as the flag-bearer of our great party, the PDP.
“We want to state that it is very strange that those who should know better and who have been relating with Sir Tony Obuh over the years in the political terrain of Delta State and beyond are now saying things that are capable of heating up the polity. We state categorically that Sir Tony Obuh has been a card carry member of the PDP since 2011 and this has been attested to by our erstwhile Chairman, Barrister (Chief) Peter Nwaoboshi.
“We are also unaware that somebody is being imposed on Deltans as alleged by Kenneth Gbagi and his group of “aggrieved” aspirants. What we know is that all those who have indicated interest to contest the governorship in Delta State are in the field seeking the votes of delegates, even though we can understand why some persons are jittery and therefore resorting to the politics of the past.
“We will advise other contestants to face the issues as we are doing and to stop politics of character assassination, blackmail, innuendos and slander,” Chief Majemite said.
