2015: Ambode Set To Declare At Onikan Stadium Tomorrow

If the strong whispers should be believed, you just MIGHT be looking at the next governor of Lagos State....

Frontline gubernatorial aspirant and former Accountant General of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, will on Friday, October 24th, formally declare his intention to seek the candidacy of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to run for the office of the Lagos State Governor.

A statement from the campaign organisation of the politician, who was the first
to pick an Expression of Interest Nomination form towards the Nov 15 APC primaries, said that the declaration will take place at the Onikan Stadium at 10am.

The press statement from his campaign office noted that the declaration is coming on the heels of the massive endorsement that the Epe-born Ambode got from Islamic clerics in Lagos State on Tuesday at the Blue Roof, Lagos State Television Complex, Agidingbi, Ikeja.

The campaign office informed that the approval to use Onikan Stadium for the declaration was personally granted by Governor Babatunde Fashola, who wrote glowingly about the civil service career of Ambode when the aspirant voluntarily retired in 2012.

“Tomorrow’s declaration, which is expected to be a carnival-like endorsement of Ambode by stakeholders from all the 57 council areas in Lagos State is an opportunity for the frontline aspirant to thank party stalwarts, who have given him good reception during his year-long consultation and to sell his 5-point agenda of Continuity and Consolidation to Lagosians,” the campaign office stated.

The 51-year-old Ambode retired at the peak of his career in the Lagos State Civil Service after almost three decades, which took him round all the nooks and crannies of Lagos State Local Government and Civil Service establishment, an advantage which his supporters believe places him in a very good position to satisfy the aspirations of the voters.

*He has good profile and a lot of people are giving him the thumbs up..Lets wait and see oooh.

  1. He mismanaged funds and BRF asked him to resign rather than sack him.he's tinubus choice not fasholas.however fasholas hands are tied any in the spirit of one party,he had no choice than to endorse.

    1. Don't Fashola have the right to sack him, why will he have advised him to resign? Did Jonathan advise Obanikoro to resign from his cabinet? Let us appreciate a man who took 2 years off work to plan for the greatness of Lagos. As for me, Ambode is the man with the best credentials so far for the job.

    2. Anon 4:33 u clearly didn't understand the previous anonymous. He/she isn't stating what is right but what has happened. Yes Fashola has a right to sack anyone but out of empathy some employers, not only civil servants, would give u the privilege to resign honourably so as not to mess up your CV. And obanikoro who resigned did so because of his gubernatorial race ambition in lagos state, not because he had issues with the president.

    3. As for Fashola and tinubu's strife concerning the next lagos state governor, the matter is not funny at all o. A lot of in house strife btw the two, which has now made their respective loyalists break into two parts. With more on Fashola's side.
Fashola has been able to garner supporters because of his shrewdness...ironically he now has more followers that tinubu or the APC as a whole. their choice of candidates has caused a lot of confusion and many have been trying to advice Fashola to defect from APC so that he can enjoy significant posts on the federal level.
It's no secret that Fashola is loved because of his works and not because he is of the APC. Unfortunately, tinubu is losing his momentum and his monopolistic hold on the party...so he also has been a bit mindful so that he wouldn't lose out completely.

I still do not understand who advised Obanikoro to resign, that was a big blunder. Jimi Agbaje has more followership in lagos state and both are contesting on the same Pdp platform. How they wan take do am tire me. The primaries will be something else. Overall 2015 election will be the most crucial yet in the history of Nigeria.
Straight from the federal level to the states level. God bless Nigeria

    4. Why post as Anonymous, you should have posted as liar liar.Fashola DID NOT ask Ambode to resign, infact this man has stellar records of performance in all the ministries and parastatals that he worked in.Go and ask those who know, cos it's obvious you don't know,in 2012 when Ambode submitted his resignation letter,BRF was actually hesitant to accept it and he implofred Ambode to stay on in the team and continue to churn out the effective reforms he had been initiating and which made it easier to do business with Lagos state, enhance the revenue base of Lagos, ensured Lagos state budget performs at a lowest annual average of 85%,he launched the e-payment platform for staff salaries, prompt payment and salary arrears of UBE and other pensioners in the state. His services were so valuable that BRF spoke glowingly at Akinwunmi Ambode's send forth

    5. LOL @ Fashola has more followers than Tinubu,Sisi eko where and when did you conduct this census of number of followers???don't be deceived my dear,Tinubu still remains the man with highest number of loyalists in Lagos. The issue of how well Fashola is loved is not in doubt but if you want to know or compare his pre 2011 popularity rating and his present rating, please hit the streets and find out from the traders, bus drivers and okada riders,I mean the real people that really go out and vote and I guaranty you will be a bit shocked that BRF is not as popular as you're making him out to be.

    6. Engr Don. Me sef follow u lol. But I maintain my earlier comment. Ok look at it from this angle, who brought in Fashola? Who has been taking the glory of his works since office? Isn't it Tinubu and the APC? Now this was at the earlier stage before Fashola formed his personal opinion and followership.

The same market women are the ones screaming that Tinubu is imposing on them. Everyone is complaining about his autocratic way of leadership.

Ex, the swearing in of his daughter as iya oloja didn't augur well with them, including with Fashola who opposed vehemently at the initial stage. This is the major grievance the market women have with Tinubu. So does that not in part, register a decline in their loyalty to Tinubu? Even Fashola shuddered at the development and they all know.

In house consensus is the same. The debate about who should be the next gov further caused a rift between them. That at some point Tinubu decided to mute and watch Fashola when many of the party leaders saw that the opinion of the populace was a determining factor. Fashola is loved by civil servants, and the civil servants make the bulk of any election consensus. Not forgetting that Fayemi in Ekiti lost for the same reasons.

Have u forgotten the Osoba angle of things? These are all issues that have made Tinubu less popular within the APC. I would like to direct u to also take a street survey within the civil servants in Alausa for an apt analysis and conclusion. I enjoyed reading your submission tho.

    7. Thanks sisi eko, after now you and I should run for office together.Don't forget Ambode is the one running for office and not Tinubu,I understand your angle though but will quickly add that it's a huge slight to suggest that a grown man that worked for over two decades in the civil service does not have a mind of his own.I can confidently tell you that he is more with the civil servants in Alausa than any other aspirant in both PDP and APC.People do make mistakes, even as governors,I hope you've not forgotten the fears of some non-Lagosians about whether the next governor will allow them do move about/business freely in Lagos or will one day decide to round them up and dump them in the dead of night somewhere so far away,I know you don't jump bike as they say,but take time to ask them how they feel about the present governor. That said I have been at a meeting where some civil servants were present and honestly their consensus opinion is that there are two APC aspirants,i.e Ambode and the rest, that he is one of them and he has their votes already, seriously. You know we Nigerians are very supersticious cultural people, the native-inclined amongst the electorate have said that the son of an oba in another state cannot come and rule over their own oba.Really this WILL NOT turn out to be a fight between BAT and BRF the way people feel,I'm sure every well-meaning stakeholder will work to present the best man to represent the party

  16. Sentiments apart,Akinwunmi Ambode is the best qualified and best prepared for this job.No other aspirant, whether in APC or PDP knows Lagos state the way he does,I'm not talking of knowing the parts of Lagos, which of course few know as well as him,but I mean the workings of the local governments and the bureaucracies of the state civil service since he has worked for a long time in no less than 4 local government areas before being drafted into the state civil service level,he understands the perculiar way Lagos works,he is passionate about Lagos. All the people shouting Tinubu this,Tinubu that are free to express their views on the man,but you cant take it away from Tinubu that he actually laid the foundation for the rapid development of Lagos,it is to this man's credit that Fashola had a solid structure to build on.Again,I keep hearing people link Ambode to Tinubu, though I am yet to either see a link or any of the sort where Ambode claimed to have been anointed by Tinubu or Tinubu claiming that Ambode is his candidate. That said,I want us to be very realistic,we all know Tinubu is not only a politician, but a major player at that,in fact,I can say that we would not have been hearing of any BRF or even APC if not for him,so is there any person out there who realistically thinks Tinubu will not have a candidate he supports amongst the numerous candidates running on APC platform, why are we a bit unfair and unrealistic at times???most of us here have our own preferred candidates(even when many of us don't vote and don't belong to a political party),yet we want people like Tinubu to stay aloof.Secondly,if indeed Tinubu decides to support Akinwunmi Ambode, are we realistically saying Ambode should tell Tinubu to keep his support to himself???come on guys, lets be realistic. The truth of the matter is that ,love him or hate him,Tinubu commands the greatest loyalty within the APC ranks in Lagos at least and he will be a huge asset to any serious aspirant. So I will personally choose to dwell on the credentials of Akinwunmi Ambode and his programme for Lagos, rather than issues that are not really material

  17. Engr Don, get your fact right nobody know Amobode without Tinubu backup he can not win Apc primaries. He has nothing to offer Lagos state is just Tinubu boy that why Fashola did not want him.if Apc put him forward iam sorry Apc will lost Lagos to PDP,you will thank me later.

    1. Anonymous it is you that should get your facts right.Engr Don has named very many places where Ambode worked in Lagos, are you saying he did not work in those places or that for someone who worked for so long in different parts of Lagos,he is not known.Let me ask you,how many of you knew Fashola before Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu presented him as ACN candidate, even when he was chief of staff, few people knew him,so I'm sorry to tell you sir that you are very wrong.Nobody will thank you for anything because your argument doesn't make sense at all,how can you say if APC put Ambode forward, then they will lose to PDP,who is PDP putting forward. Please tell us something else
