Same way some people do not know how to make use of their brain...LOL
In a bizarre tale that illustrates how Nigeria is run, President Goodluck Jonathan arrived two weeks ago at a top secret meeting with the exiled Emir of Gwoza, the newly-named headquarters of Boko Haram’s so-called “Islamic Caliphate,” with no knowledge of the location of Gwoza, presidency sources at the meeting said.
The Emir, Muhammed Timta, escaped after the militants invaded Gwoza on August 16 and took over his palace.
He arrived in Abuja after first making his way to Maiduguri to escape further attempts on his life. His father, Idrissa Timta, had died in a Boko Haram ambush on May 30, 2014 as Boko Haram ambushed his convoy on his way to the burial of the Emir of Gombe.
Shortly after Timta’s arrival in Abuja, President Jonathan sent for the Emir, who was accompanied to the meeting by a Borno Senator, Ali Ndume. However, to the utter shock of the Emir, President Jonathan did not know where Gwoza was located: Adamawa or Borno State.
Presidency sources said silence enveloped the room after the President, apparently lacking basic research or a briefing by his numerous aides and security agencies, asked in condescending pidgin
“Where’s Gwoza sef?”
Mr. Jonathan then promised to ‘liberate’ Gwoza after Senator Ndume told him Gwoza was his home town and that it is located in Borno State.
Gwoza remains under the control of Boko Haram after the sect took over the township in a raid and declared the town the headquarters of the “Islamic Caliphate” in the Northeast of Nigeria.
At least three attempts by Nigerian troops have been repelled by the militants. Several soldiers and innocent civilians were killed.....SR
*Abeggy!!!Na who dem catch with hand inside soup pot dey thief meat them dey call thief.'Some' politicians do not even know how many states Nigeria has sef talkless of knowing where they are situated.
Truth be told, some people will only get to know where Gwoza is after this report of the President asking goes viral.
Pardon me to ask where exactly in Borno state Gwoza is..lol
*Note that i am not a PDP card carrying member.
Oriegwu o0. Abeg where is Gwoza o0! Lol
ReplyDeleteStella you disappoint sometimes. Say it as it is, a president shouldn't be asking where it is during the meeting but before. His people should have briefed him before he goes in. His question was obviously what state. Gwoza has been in the news for awhile and even we know its in borno. Gej not knowing obviously means he doesnt listen to news and noone tells him of the happenings in the country. If its Apc now you'll open mouth yakata
DeleteGwoza is in southern Borno, and that is where the training camp of the Nigeria Mobile Police is located. Same village the so called Sen. Ndume is from, and very annoying is the fact that this same senator was mentioned in 2011 as a top BH sponsor/information giver. After verifying the exchange of sms between him and his telecom service provider nothing has been done about it. This man gives out hundreds of Volkswagen golf cars to his supporters and EFCC has done nothing about his source of income. Anyway God will catch them. And this man was not even born a muslim o, his mother used to be the head of the Christian women in Gwoza and if she is still alive she is still a Christian. I'm not condeming islam but if you are a northern Christian especially from Borno or Yobe you will understand our plight.
DeleteBefore this man became president, I said it that he is intellectually lazy, but them curse me die. Person wey dey sleep for council meeting. How can you not at least do a research before your meeting? How hard is that. Even me wey no like wahala, once I hear something new I run to google, I ask questions. I hate reading but I don't have a choice. Smh! 2015 indeed. I am my own government.
DeleteGoodluck n wife disgracing Nigeria up and down! So Mr. President doesn't hv intelligent aides? Why speak ignorantly? Whether we all know where Gwoza is or not, he is the number one citizen and is expected to know a lot! God help Nigeria!
DeleteNot entirely his fault, but his aides. He should have been briefed before the meeting. This tells a lot, as someone said they don't even tell him what's going on in the country. Please Mr president listen to news, real news.
DeleteHow is it not his fault? It's not as if the emir badged into the presidential office taking him unawares...the president invited him and so he should've had sufficient time to ask for all relevant info...
DeleteThis smacks of laziness...and his aides can only be that lazy because they know he doesn't care too...#shikena
Me sef no sabi Gwoza until NOW o. However I am not the president so eh. He should have been briefed. Embarrassing to say the least.
DeleteI didn't know of Chibok until the 'missing' girls. I didn't know of Iyanya until the bombing. And so on. But as the president of a nation you should carry ur map around o. Na so GEJ for ask Amapour or what's her name, where Gwoza is located. I love u Mr President but at times like this u leave me with no choice than to lash u. A knock on ur head Reuben Abati.
hmmmmmm
ReplyDeleteUtterly embarrassing to say the least.
DeleteThe only person who doesn't know how clueless Jonathan is, is an unborn child who would be delivered in like 6 months time.
ReplyDeleteAs in, hiss, SMH. There should be a training school for our leaders before they assume office, he didnt research or get his aides too and it was not an emergency meeting, so since BH took over gowza it didnt even concern him enough to check its location. He couldnt be bothered or felt it was another fable. He couldnt even be diplomatic in the way he asked. And this man wants to stagnate the country for 4 more years and my pple are chopping bcos of ...... its a shame Nigeria
DeleteLMAO! I'm telling u.....Swerve u're seriously on track lol
DeleteShut ur dirty mouth swerve, like u know everything. She goat.
DeleteJust wait for Abati's ignorant response to this.
DeleteJust like someone going for an interview and not doing research about the company he or she is applying for, only to get there and be asking yeye questions. Chai! Oga Jona! Diaris God oh
DeleteIhekire Tony
ReplyDeleteMy president is just a single human being, he cannot know everything and he cannot be everywhere. Please give him a break.
In the other news, was it a coincidence that APC had a conference in Owerri yesterday, with all their governors, party executives and members in attendance, and it was same yesterday that Imo state allegedly recorded it's first ebola case.
This human-being is just so stupid. How do you defend a president, who doesn't know where gwoza is and he says he's in C-in-C of the armed forces. Jonadaft is a disgrace to this great country. Renegade has spoken.
DeleteA beg did is not acceptable stall, truly did man is a drunk, anwuruma
DeleteDo u mean to say that we now have a Patience Jo Academy in Nigeria?.....lol
Delete@tony did anyone realise that buhari and elrufai has been staying away from apc functions lately. Reasons will be made known soon
DeleteThere is wahala is Gwoza, he should be abreast of the latest development.
DeleteTony Abeg let's hear word. He can't know everything but not when it comes to a location which is a part of the country he presides over. Common now. Let's stop this our ignorance on the blogosphere because non Nigerians do read from us at times. Even President Obama knows African countries and their cities more than our so called leaders. Enough said
DeleteStella,no dey talk like this abeg... He's not suppose to know where gwoza is? Gwoza has been in the news for the past 2weeks? Hasn't he heard of it? Hasn't he heard that the declared it an Islamic caliphate? So after he heard that why didn't he start asking to know where it is? Okay since he didn't ask then, why didn't he ask his aides to find out where the place is after he invited the emir? That's what the aides are paid form,to update him and brief him up before a meeting...
ReplyDeleteWe Nigerians are hupocrites,we want a change yet we cant call out the president when he's wrong... We defend him when it blatantly clear that he isn't performing as he should all because he's from south south....
Clueless Nigerian President!!!
DeleteLucinda
I am even surprised he didn't say America will know where Gwoza is now. Pardoned many people do not even know where they come from, most married people don't even know where their husbands are from other than the states, but for a President to go for a meeting and not know the details of where Gwoza is, is highly unpardonable. A little bit of research would have helped him out, even if it meant using his phone to google it out naa. Then how does he intend to liberate a place he doesn't even know where it is? This is to tell you that most of these happenings in the north are not his concern. This is not good enough.
DeleteRide on. U said it the way it is.
DeleteWhere do I send our kiss for this comment? A million likes!!! Don't mind Stella, maybe she hopes to come home to take up a political appointment ni sef!
DeleteSharonna
Stella u r very partial
ReplyDeleteDon't like that about you. How much is Jonathan paying you sef. Love u but I hope some day u won't b biased nd report things politically d way it is
LWKMDFH. Abeg, make unu leave Uncle Jona alone. He nor be MTN naa.
ReplyDeleteOrrr! Some of our leaders na olodo rabata. Weda na old age syndrome I go call am. One Senator couldnt recite the Nation Anthem at one political programme aired Live on TV some years back. So shameful. May God help Nigeria.
That's the honest truth Stella because I have never hard of Gwoza!!!but u know our people an their way....GEJ u go hear today by the time people start commenting
ReplyDeleteOsalinda
None of us Heard of Gwoza UNTIL it was taken over by BH and declared an islamic calphate (whatever the heck that means) and now everyone knows..
DeleteBut for the resident to not bother to know says a lot abt how he is 'fighting' the war against insurgents
.. that your excuse doesn't make sense at all
He's taking lessons from Patience!
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha...cluelessness at its peak.
Me sef have never heard of gwoza till now truth be told most of us don't know, so no pretence
ReplyDeleteMy dear, there is no excuse whatsoever in this national blunder. What happened to a little bit of research and asking his aides or advisers? Come on!I await Reuben on this.
DeleteStella i think u r a closet pdp supporter..lol jst say it...hehehe
ReplyDeleteMayan yarns#
And where is Gwoza again? Anyway the aides would have briefed him before the meeting. But lets stop looking for every opportunity to insult our president he is like a father to us and deserves our respect.
ReplyDeleteExactly..
DeleteHe's a Father to you...Speak for yourself are you aii?
DeleteNo b small father...has he fed you today? lol..Nigerians sef...
DeleteSte baby dats true, many wld not hv known were Gwoza is, but after the "lslamic caliphate" nonsense, it wld hv bn necessary for d presido, to pick up his Map. Well dat spoken, u no fit know am all jare..sm senators don't evn knw d second verse of our national anthem. U r not a card carrying party member dear, but u jst sound PDfee º°˚˚˚°ºнaĦaнaº°˚˚˚°º=)). ReplyDeleteIt is not the duty of the president to know all LGA that is why he has state governors.
ReplyDeleteGbam!
DeleteSo for the President to know the LGA in this case the Governor must travel down and start explaining?. GEJ is clueless period. He doesn't give a fuck.
DeleteWhen a major event or catastrophe happens in that plce, it then behoves on u, as a leader to find out (be properly briefed)...and respond accordingly
DeleteThat's leadership
Honestly,I didn't know where it was located when I first heard about the incident but I feel he as the President should know or he should have been properly briefed prior to the said meeting!Anyways, whether he knows or not, goodluck to his 'liberation' scheme...May God help this country, walahi,we need His help urgently!!!
ReplyDeletePolitical disconnect. How could he? Heard he is a puppet president and I was defending him but this statement really takes the cake!
ReplyDeleteGod bless you....
DeleteLol @ ur not a pdp card carrying member. It is well.
ReplyDeleteLol @ ur not a pdp card carrying member. It is well.
ReplyDeleteU can imagine d statement coming from a President :( it's really sad !
ReplyDeleteLol.... I don't even know where Gwoza is sef
ReplyDeleteSDK I just luv u
ReplyDeleteMrs Eyaba
Wonders shall never end in this country.
ReplyDeleteJonathan keeps embarrassing himself n dts y dy will kip yabbing him.
ReplyDeleteI like dis man
ReplyDeleteBuh he is clueless ho ha!
Yes,he might not have known where Gwoza is
Buh he should have ASKED before d briefing
Or better still, kept his ignorance in check!
Ana emenu...
Dis isn't funny buh der is God. So ppl who av lost dir lives. so its 4 nofin kenan
ReplyDeleteHahahahahahahahaahhahahahahahahahahaha.....even this laugh too small, alot of people will rant under this post and the truth is most ain't different from the president they don't even have a hint of what's actually happening around them they just latch on to a few tidbits and start screaming, shoving their opinions down everyones throat
ReplyDeleteSeems you don't understand what this means. He is a President for crying out loud. Why invite an emir for a meeting if you don't even know where his caliphate is?there is free encyclopedia to find out. It is not good enough. Watch and see how the foreign news will come for him.
DeleteMy dear I understand what it means.... But I go still laff.
DeleteStella, you and this your new found style of supporting mediocrity! (Voltrons should not tell me about sarcasm biko)
ReplyDeleteIs the president on the same level as 'some people'? Even if he didn't know the location of a town that's been in the news, did he have to admit it in such a crude manner?
I can bet he was dead drunk when making that statement. That's the only explanation.
Exactly!
DeleteGwoza dat has bein in d news o
N wit all d happenings
Anwuruma somebori!
D guy na drunk nau...everybody knows
DeleteI want to ask.Does GEJ know my home town Mbieri? does he know Stella's home town? Not and will never be a politician though!
ReplyDeleteU b ode! Did any catastrophe happen in your town to merit nationwide media attention?
DeleteWorse, is the way he asked the question, in that nonchalant manner..
I imagine him picking his teeth, lounging with one hand across the top of the couch as he says ' eh, so where Gwoza de sef?'
Tufia!!!
I want to ask.Does GEJ know my home town Mbieri? does he know Stella's home town? Not and will never be a politician though!
ReplyDeleteWhile I can't vouch for the integrity of this report, I won't be surprised if the accounts are true. Anyone, and by that I mean those who listened to the Australian negotiator's interview on Arise TV not those who read the transcript in part or the reproduced version, would recall that Dr. Stephen Davis lamented that President Jonathan seems to have been left alone by his horde of advisers and ministers to carry on the war against terrorism. He particularly fingered the Minister of Defence, Aliyu Gusau, in that regard. Again, why I won't be surprised is I've a gut-feeling the C-in-C is not properly briefed on security matters. Why? It took the president series of mutinous acts and desertions from the army among others for him to realise the troops fighting Boko Haram aren't properly equipped and ill-motivated, which forced him to request a loan of $1bn to purchase military hardware but not after he'd gone on national TV to disparage a governor for revealing that the enemy possesses superior fire-arm. What other evidence is needed to show that the president is not kept in the loop, security-wise? So, 'where's Gwoza?' might just be the tip of the iceberg of what he might not be adequately briefed about.
ReplyDeleteWhere do I send your kiss to?
DeleteGod bless u!! Still, the truth is that, if he keeps them on their toes, demands all and every info, shows strength of character and a willingness to see this thru, no one would DARE keep stuff from him!!!
DeleteSo still, the buck stops with him!
you had to write a whole sermon to confirm that the C-IN-C is actually clueless. i remember from an earlier post you said the president is fully abreast of the situation at hand, you fell short of saying that the president is all knowing. you even said the president is not influenced by external forces. why contradict yourself. with all the numerous aides and horde of advisers the president is still kept in the dark on security issues. how lame can tjis excuse be. may be you should help unravel the mystery behind the president not been properly briefed or are you trying to pass off the president as being innocent of the situation. that he our president is surrounded by wolves in sheep clothing. am still waiting for Abati who ingloriously gave a press statement saying the erstwhile service chiefs was sacked knowing fully well that Bardeh will still continue in service for the president. Ayodele please don't exonerate the president for not being forthright in the fight against terrorism. *much love.*
DeleteSo because he's the president,he ought to know everywhere, i mean the road that leads to your village and even your father's compound and also the former name of your local govt. Please people cut him some slack cos he's just human.
ReplyDeleteMy dear he mustn't know everything but at least he should have been prepared for the meeting... Abi was he thinking he was just having a tea break to discuss how their children were faring in their various abodes?no slacks need to be cut here.
DeleteManna bee most Nigerians can only sing national anthem but can't recite and I bet you can't recite it,Why ll Jona know where Gwoza is,is there an oil well there or do Cbn print money there.I hardly believe Sahara reporter cos it's obvious they are being politically manipulated.I don't see anything bad with Jona asking that it's better he asked than pretend
ReplyDeleteYou know why there's something wrong? Because he shd've been properly briefed..this is a huge security matter...he shd've gotten a clear picture of what he was dealing with before that meeting...
DeleteI'm sorry but this just shows him to be nonchalant
If Boko-haram should take over Borno state completely, den president goodluck jonadaft must be made to resign, along with dose top military chiefs. DeleteStells, why are u talking BS in defence of di Jonadaft'?yes its true that most politicians don't know a lot of states and districts they are supposed to govern, but Gwoza's case is unique bcos it's a town in distress,INSURGENTS have taken OVER the whole community!is that not enuf reason for him to have even travelled down there a couple of times if he was a responsible president ?and this community is still part of the country he rules!isn't dat enuf reason for him to know gwoza?...this only shows he doesn't give a damn abt what d pple are facing with insurgents, and is only waiting to declare as SOE to his benefit come feb 2015(presiidential elections)...
ReplyDeletebut seriously, where is Gwoza?
ReplyDeleteI dunno???

Stella I have always held you in high esteem, and I very much respect your views on issues concerning our politicians and the nation at large but with this, I can not tell you how grossly disappointed I am of you to agree to this presidents most stupid question. I don't know gwoza, never been there don't even come from that part of the country, but I hav been following what has been happening in borno state and this is not the first time that gwoza will be appearing in the news as one of the crises torn areas of borno by the insurgents, needles to remind you that it was recently mentioned in the news that gwoza has recently been overtaken by the bokoharam insurgents and has been declared an islamic caliphate. So why on earth would our beloved president ask such a non chalant question in the presence of people who that town matter to the most? That is the most insensitive and inconsiderate question I have ever heard the leader of a nation say to his own people
ReplyDeleteGbam!

In as much as d president was supposed to hv researched n know where Gwoza is located b4 d meeting commenced,in other hand he is nt under any obligation to know all towns n LGA in d whole states,I hv neva even in my life heard abt dis Gwoza let alone know where it is located until dis attack came up,so I dnt think his question shud call for headline in d news#jstmyopinion#

ReplyDeleteI have read a lot of the comments on ppl saying they don't know where Gwoza is may l also remind them that they don't get security briefings every morning, and as the C in C if a section of your country is at war you should at least have heard of it
ReplyDeleteAbeg make una shot up! oya go and ask a northern leader where Nigbo is. Ndi Ala. Imagine Obama asking where Tora Bora is, even though its in Afghanistan.
Many soldiers have died in Gwoza and the C in C doesn't know where it is.
Shame on the followers. .Not even the Leaders.

ReplyDeleteWhat does Jonadaft have in common with a bungalow? They both have nothing upstairs.
ReplyDeleteStella, you are not a PDP card carrying member but you support PDP? please clarify.
ReplyDeleteStella are you for real??? The president of Nigeria does not know where the location of extreme violence and terrorist takeover is taking place in a country he's supposed to be leading? This information has been in the news for days. I don't even live in Nigeria and I know where Gwoza is. How do I know? I took time to do some research after it was invaded by militants. How does the president not do the same thing. That's his job! This clearly shows a president that is not only clueless but completely disconnected from the serious issues that country is facing. I don't know about you but I think there's something fundamentally WRONG with GEJ not knowing or seeking to know this information.
ReplyDeleteOh my!!! God I commit Nigeria into Your hands o
ReplyDeleteWow...President "I don't give a damn!" has really shown that he doesn't. Stella, I come to your blog because you are usually objective, truthful and show maturity. On this one, I say your comment is disappointing! But hey it is your blog. I would say, we get the leaders we deserve and should forget a progressive Nigeria since it seems from the comments at least half of us see absolutely nothing wrong in this little incident. Yes, I am a Lagos born and bred chick and yes there are some places even in Lagos I haven't heard about. So I know it's impossible for anyone to know every nook and cranny in Nigeria, even our President. However, Gwoza has been in the news since at least May when this Emir's father was killed. Secondly, HE called a meeting and thus should have done his homework. Thirdly, the way the question was nonchalantly thrown out was a slap in the face of those who have been devastated by these killings. Perhaps his aides did him wrong but the buck stops with him and if he were a strong leader and demanded certain things, this would not have happened. Imagine for example if when the Sandy Hook killing of the children happened, and Obama came out at a press conference or at an audience with the parents and was like "Oh, btw, where is Sandy Hook??". Before the killings who had heard of Sandy Hook??? Nothing wrong with being a PDP member or supporting your own. Afterall we claim to be a democracy. However, the freedom of that entails having the guts to call your president out when he is wrong. *Still hoping the story is false*
ReplyDelete"Hypocrites. Let him that is not guilty cast the first stone".
ReplyDeleteMost critics who who making the most noise still don't know where Gwoza is, despite of all the media interest the current saga has generated. The President's mistake is tolerable, to the extent that Gwoza is close to Adamawa state. Those who reside here in the North know how often one town spills into another. Infact, some towns have continuing territories in other states. In that circumstance, it is wise that Mr. President sought clarification on what part of Gwoza was affected. Pathetic how some Nigerians laugh at serious matters. Maybe that's why we are the happiest people in the world. Keep laughing while the world moves forward.
