Nigerian Mother Births White Baby

A mother has beaten odds of a million-to-one by giving birth to a baby who appears to be of a different race.
Catherine Howarth, 32, from Milton Keynes, is Nigerian by heritage, and so was, at first, a little taken aback when she saw her son Jonah for the first time.

With his pale skin, green eyes and light brown hair, Jonah, according to MailOnline, now three months old, looks like any other new-born baby - but, when seen in his mother’s arms, his uniqueness is obvious.

Recalling the moment she delivered Jonah in Milton Keynes Hospital on June 1, his mother told the Sunday Mirror: “The midwife looked at me and looked back down at Jonah and then at me again and couldn’t believe it.”
“Some children get darker after a few weeks when the skin colour they will have for life starts to become obvious. But you can see from the colour at the tips of their ears and that showed Jonah was fully white.

“We have been told I must have been carrying a recessive gene. My parents were from Nigeria and, for as far back as anyone can remember; my family have all been black.”
Husband Richard, 34, who works as a medical recruitment consultant, was equally as shocked when he first saw his son, who is the couple’s first child together.

However, he was primarily just happy that Jonah was strong and healthy, after he got the umbilical cord tangled round his neck during labour – a potentially dangerous complication.
“The colour of Jonah’s skin is of no concern - Jonah being a healthy and happy baby is what matters.”
The couple have been told that they are unlikely to have another white baby if they have further children, due to the extremely rare combination of genes needed.

The phenomenon is not totally unheard of however.
In 2010, parents Benjaman and Angela Ihegboro – both black - introduced their white-skinned, blonde-haired daughter Nmachi to the world.
The couple, from Woolwich, South London, was as baffled as the scientific community at their daughter’s appearance, being unaware of any white heritage at all in either family.

Doctors at Queen Mary Hospital in Sidcup in Kent, where Nmachi was born, immediately ruled out albinism, leading experts to conclude, that like Jonah, Nmachi’s colouring must be the result of recessive genes...

*Wow and i thought my kids being 90percent white was da bomb oh...this one is awesome but he might probably darken later cos one of my boys was like this at birth, even whiter sef but as he grew he reduced to 90percent with blue yes and all..lol...I guess i have recessive genes as well.

Beautiful baby boy...I want!

    1. Sweetie, it's unique because even newborn bi-racial babies aren't delivered looking pure white, a trace of the other race is always noticeable, especially to the trained eyes. Caucasians are very good at spotting bi-racial kids whom most of them still refer to as "black kids". A Nigerian woman with a Caucasian hubby birthing a Caucasian baby is newsworthy because it rarely happens.

  16. Beautiful baby, as the father said him being healthy and strong is what matters. Black, brown or white children are beautiful gifts from God, it's now left for the parents to train them up in the way they should go so that when they grow up they won't deviate from it. A phenomenon all the same.

Hmmmm..... I remember when one elderly army guy saw me and said I look like I have oyibo blood. We argued for over an hour on this. I gave up. I am actually fair skinned but nothing fantastic. I am like same shade as SDK. But the man was so convinced. He said my nose and my lips give me away.
My mum is actually a bit lighter than me and she had waist length hair as a young girl. She said people used to think she was a dark indian- pointed nose and all. All her other siblings are dark, a few with light brown eyes and curly hair.
Then she told me her grandmother, who's my greatgrandmother had grey pupils and she had this latino brown kinda complexion. And her father's dad was very white with curly hair and freckles.
And no one could explain how black parents turned up with such strange looking children in the 18th century. Maybe some of our fore-mothers (lol) played away match with some colonial masters. I might find out when I have kids.

  26. Yes Stella, these things happen more especially in this case that the father of the baby is white. We serve a humorous God who sometimes chooses to defy the natural laws operational on earth. My niece came out looking biracial to the point that everyone was asking if my sister's husband had white or Caucasian ancestry. Even though in both my family and that of her husband, we have light skinned people, but there hasn't been anyone with her looks and complexion. She is 10 and still very light skinned with long, full (almost waist length hair) The amazing thing is apart from the light complexion, she is her dad's replica in terms of looks, mannerisms and all but when you see her with my sister, you can also see a lot of physical resemblance.

  30. It is normal, after all her husband is white, He will still change since he is biracial, you need to see my children SDK. I remember once they went to Shop rite and a shop attendant asked where they are from and they said we are biracial and that their mum is actually a Nigerian, they did not believe. They just said it is a lie. Some men too strong.

  37. Not a big deal jor. I know of a black woman who married a white man from Germany, they have twin girls and one is 100% black with her short rough hair while the other one is 100% white.the white man so loved the black girl.they are grown now sha.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Probably she is ibo??

I have this theory that light skinned ibos are descendants of the white men who came to colonize/exploit nigeria through slavery and what not.

I told my very very very light skinned ibo mom and she dismissed this theory. I reaffirmed that the light skinned ibos are the real osus because they do not know who their real ancestors are.

Or how then do u explain the fair complexion when we all have seen pictures of the slave era and they all were as black as coal. Case inpoint lupita nyongo- a true depiction of an african slave.

If my mom, linda eze or ezewanyi for instance marries a white man the baby would come out like white that so this isnt neccesarily news.

Shes lucky thou, have always wanted a fair child.

  44. Adorable! This is very much possible. Mariah Carey is a typical example. Her dad was black while her mum is white. But Mariah looks typical white(blonde) with straight hair. That got a lot of people confused until she set the records straight stating she is bi-racial (in other words black). There are just a few people like that. I also have a very close friends who looks completely white but she's mixed. It's the recessive genes....
